The Orioles designated Avila for assignment Wednesday.

Baltimore claimed Avila off waivers from San Francisco on June 17, but he spent much of the past two months on Triple-A Norfolk's injured list before returning to action for the Orioles' International League affiliate last week. He was lit up over his three relief appearances for Norfolk, giving up 10 earned runs over just 1.1 innings before the Orioles moved him off their 40-man roster. Avila is expected to clear waivers and will most likely stick around in the organization as a bullpen arm at Norfolk.

The Orioles optioned Tate to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Tate was recalled Tuesday and did not make an appearance in the Orioles' win over the Mets. The transaction clears a spot on the active roster for Cole Irvin, who was called up from Triple-A to start Wednesday's series finale at Citi Field.

Hudson got the save in Tuesday's win over the Mariners, allowing a hit over a scoreless inning.

He was staked a three-run lead after Jason Heyward put the Dodgers ahead in the eighth with a home run. Hudson was able to pick up his first save in eight days and posted just his second scoreless outing over his last six appearances. Michael Kopech and Evan Phillips have also picked up saves over the past week, signifying that the Dodgers' closer role is still more of a committee. Hudson owns a 2.61 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 50:12 K:BB in 51.2 innings to go along with 10 saves, 16 holds and six wins.

Williams gave up two hits and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his fifth save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Cardinals. He struck out three.

He converted his fifth straight save chance since recovering from back trouble and making his season debut in late July, but Williams wasn't exactly sharp. The right-hander loaded the bases with one out before fanning Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Gorman to escape the jam. Williams has seen a heavy workload over the last week, getting called upon four times in seven days, so it wouldn't be a surprise if Trevor Megill handled the ninth Wednesday should Milwaukee have another late lead to protect.

Munoz (2-5) was charged with a blown save and took the loss Tuesday against the Dodgers, allowing three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out a batter over 1.1 innings.

Munoz was called upon for a high-leverage situation to face the heart of the Dodgers' order in the seventh with a runner on second and one out and the Mariners clinging to a one-run lead. He wound up giving up a double to Mookie Betts to tie the game before completing the frame. Munoz came back out in the eighth and put some traffic on the bases before eventually giving up a three-run homer to Jason Heyward. Munoz has now blown consecutive saves and has allowed a home run in both appearances. Before this latest slide, Munoz was working on a streak of 14 consecutive scoreless appearances, allowing just one hit over that span. He's still in the midst of an excellent season, posting a 1.88 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 58:22 K:BB in 48 innings while compiling 18 saves and six holds.

Kinley allowed one hit and struck out one in a scoreless eighth inning to earn a hold Tuesday against the Nationals.

Kinley entered the game with a 3-1 lead and continued his solid run since the All-Star break. In 16 games -- spanning 16.2 frames -- he's maintained a 1.62 ERA and 0.78 WHIP to go along with an 18:5 K:BB. Notably, Victor Vodnik (shoulder) was unavailable Tuesday night, and Kinley would likely be next in line for save chances should Vodnik remain sidelined.

The Athletics signed Pruitt to a minor-league contract Tuesday.

Pruitt made four appearances with the Rangers earlier this season, allowing six runs over 4.1 relief innings before missing time with a knee injury and eventually getting released. He'll report to Triple-A Las Vegas, where he could be used as a starter or reliever.

Vodnik experienced shoulder soreness while warming up to enter Tuesday's game against the Nationals, MLB.com reports.

Vodnik was preparing to enter the game in the ninth inning with the Rockies leading 3-1 but could not pitch. After the game, manager Bud Black termed the decision as cautious and referenced Vodnik's recent workload. Angel Chivilli entered the game and earned his first career save, though Tyler Kinley had already pitched the eighth inning and would likely be the top choice for save chances if Vodnik is forced to miss additional time.

Nunez (forearm) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, striking out a batter and allowing a hit over a scoreless inning.

Nunez has resided on the 15-day injured list for nearly a month with a pronator strain in his right forearm, so he'll likely require another minor-league appearance or two before the Mets activate him. The right-hander has posted a 2.43 ERA and 0.93 WHIP while striking out 45 batters and issuing just eight walks over 33.1 innings out of the New York bullpen this season.

Suarez picked up another save Tuesday night against the Twins after pitching a clean ninth inning and striking out a batter.

Suarez entered in the ninth for the second straight game and converted another save chance. He didn't have to work as hard to pick up three outs in this one, needing just nine pitches compared to 22 on Monday night. He's now converted six saves in a row and sits fourth in baseball with 29 saves for the year. The 33-year-old flamethrower owns a 1.79 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 48:10 K:BB in 50.1 innings this season.
