  • Reed Garrett RP | NYM

Mets' Reed Garrett: Placed on IL with elbow injury

The Mets placed Garrett on the 15-day injured list Monday due to right elbow inflammation.

Garrett had been tagged for eight runs over 4.2 innings covering his last five appearances. He's been given a cortisone shot and hopes to be ready for activation Sept. 7 when first eligible, according to Andrew Tredinnick of The Bergen Record. Garrett's spot on the active roster and in the bullpen will be absorbed by Jose Castillo, who was called up from Triple-A Syracuse.

  • Justin Bruihl RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Justin Bruihl: Back in big-league bullpen

The Blue Jays recalled Bruihl from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.

Bruihl has made 11 relief appearances for Toronto this season, yielding eight runs (six earned) with an 11:6 K:BB over 8.1 frames. The southpaw reliever will give manager John Schneider a fresh bullpen arm.

  • Paxton Schultz RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Paxton Schultz: Heading back to minors

The Blue Jays optioned Schultz to Triple-A Buffalo on Monday.

Schultz gave the Blue Jays a scoreless inning in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Marlins during his one-day stint with the big club. Justin Bruihl was recalled from Triple-A to replace Schultz on the 26-man active roster and in the bullpen.

  • Camilo Doval RP | NYY

Yankees' Camilo Doval: Works scoreless inning Sunday

Doval allowed two hits and struck out two batters in a scoreless ninth inning against the Red Sox on Sunday.

While the right-hander gave up a pair of hits -- a single and a double -- Sunday, he was able to escape without Boston putting any runs on the board. It wasn't the highest-leverage work (New York held a five-run lead when Doval entered), but it was nonetheless a relatively important situation with the Yankees needing to secure the win to avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of their division rivals. As for Doval, he was sorely in need of a positive outing, as he came into the contest having been scored upon in four of his past five appearances. His adjustment to a new role with the Yankees hasn't gone smoothly -- through 10 contests with New York, he's posted a 6.48 ERA, 2.16 WHIP and 10:7 K:BB over 8.1 innings while blowing his only two save chances (though he does have three holds).

  • Osvaldo Bido RP | ATH

Athletics' Osvaldo Bido: Expected to move into rotation

Bido is likely to enter the Athletics rotation for Tuesday's game against the Tigers in Sacramento, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

The Athletics are expected to deploy Bido as a starter or bulk reliever as he steps into the rotation as a replacement for Jack Perkins (shoulder), who was placed on the injured list Friday. Since being recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on July 10, Bido has worked exclusively out of the bullpen, but he should be reasonably stretched out after tossing three innings and 44 pitches in his most recent relief appearance in Thursday's 8-3 win over the Twins. Altogether, Bido owns a 5.37 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 49:25 K:BB in 65.1 innings across 19 appearances (nine starts) for the Athletics this season.

  • Alec Marsh RP | KC

Royals' Alec Marsh: Unlikely to pitch in 2026

The Royals announced Aug. 15 that Marsh hasn't resumed throwing since receiving an injection for his sore right shoulder at the end of July, MLB.com reports.

Marsh has been on the shelf throughout 2025 after he first experienced shoulder tightness during his offseason throwing program and then experienced multiple setbacks over the ensuing months. The Royals are hopeful that the injection will help resolve the discomfort in his shoulder, but Marsh's hopes of contributing at any point this season appear to have been dashed. He could start throwing again in September, but the Royals' main focus seems to be ensuring that Marsh has a normal offseason and is ready to compete for a spot on the big-league pitching staff next spring.

  • Troy Melton RP | DET

Tigers' Troy Melton: Shifts back to bullpen

Melton collected his first hold of the season while allowing one earned run on two hits and one walk over 1.1 innings of relief in Saturday's 4-2 win over the Royals.

After earning his third win of the season while tossing five scoreless frames against the White Sox in an Aug. 13 start, Melton has since shifted back to the bullpen. Melton will likely fill a flexible relief role for Detroit for the time being, but after tossing 12 shutout innings between his last two starts, he should rank as the top option to join the rotation if a spot opens up at some point over the final five weeks of the season.

  • Carlos Vargas RP | SEA

Mariners' Carlos Vargas: Rough stretch continues

Vargas gave up two runs on three hits and one walk in the seventh inning during Sunday's 11-4 win over the Athletics. He struck out one.

Vargas was brought on with the Mariners in possession of a commanding 11-1 lead, so his rough showing didn't play much of a factor in the outcome of the game. The right-hander will likely remain being used primarily as a middle reliever and low-leverage arm, given Vargas owns a 5.57 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 11:6 K:BB over his last 21 innings since the start of July.

  • Dennis Santana RP | PIT

Pirates' Dennis Santana: Closes out win

Santana allowed one hit and one walk while striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning Sunday against the Rockies.

Santana entered the game in the ninth inning to protect a four-run lead. He allowed a double and a walk with two outs but managed to turn in his sixth consecutive scoreless outing. Santana briefly struggled after taking over the closer role, but he has converted four of his last five save chances while striking out eight across his last 10 appearances.

  • Keegan Akin RP | BAL

Orioles' Keegan Akin: Nabs five-out save

Akin picked up the save Sunday against the Astros, striking out three while not allowing a baserunner across 1.2 innings.

Akin has been part of a closing committee the Orioles have deployed recently, and he was called upon Sunday to secure Baltimore's victory. He had blown his last two save opportunities, so it wasn't a guarantee Akin would continue to be a ninth-inning option. He may have pitched his way into more save chances after retiring all five of the batters he faced Sunday. Akin has a 3.12 ERA, a 47:26 K:BB and three saves in 49 innings this season.
