Melancon allowed one run on one hit and one walk over one inning, but still earned his 11th save of the season Sunday at the Cubs.

Melancon was fortunate that he was provided a two-run lead, as he gave up two consecutive baserunners to start the ninth inning, and after allowing a run, he induced a groundout to leave a runner stranded in scoring position. He's now converted seven straight save opportunities, and his ERA is at 3.00.

Iglesias (shoulder impingement) has resumed a throwing program. "He has absolutely no soreness when he throws," Reds manager Bryan Price said.

Right now, there's no timetable stated by the Reds for Iglesias' return. "I think that we're pulling back and being more extra cautious on rehabs," Price said. "My point is we already follow very stringent protocols on the rehabs. I think we're being even more deliberate now because of the run of bad luck we've had with this. ... When we talked about Iglesias, we thought it might be one or two starts initially before he was back. Now the guy is just starting to play catch. I would say it's a very disciplined approach to rehab."

Gearrin threw a clean inning against the Diamondbacks on Saturday to earn his first save of the season.

Before the save vultures rush to the waiver wire to grab Gearrin, we must note that the Giants' regular closer, Santiago Casilla, had throw in three consecutive days and was not going to be used Saturday. Gearrin's early success still needs to be monitored, however, as he has put together a 3.06 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and five holds through 17.2 innings. He doesn't strike out as many batters as Hunter Strickland, but he is used in similarly high-pressure situations, making him a solid source of holds.

Smith (knee) threw another successful bullpen session Sunday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

This is the second bullpen session in three days for Smith, who increased his pitch count from 25 to 35 pitches. According to the report, the quantity of pitches thrown at 100 percent was also increased. Although Smith is likely little more than a trade chip at this point, his progress of late helps makes a mid-June return a more realistic possibility.

Garcia was recalled from Double-A Jacksonville on Sunday, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.

It's the first big league call-up for Garcia, who posted a 4.04 ERA and 1.16 WHIP over 35.2 innings at Jacksonville. While he served as a starter at the Double-A level, Garcia figures to be deployed primarily in long relief during his stint with the Marlins.

Wittgren was optioned to Triple-A New Orleans on Sunday, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.

Wittgren made two appearances during his latest stint with the Marlins, giving up one run and four hits over 3.2 innings. He'll be replaced in the bullpen by Jarlin Garcia, who was recalled from New Orleans in a corresponding move.

Jansen notched his 13th save by striking out the only batter he faced Saturday against the Cardinals.

He was called upon after Scott Kazmir allowed a two-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning to bring the Cardinals within two runs, putting Jansen in a save situation. Jansen has only allowed a single run over 16 appearances and owns a 0.59 ERA to go along with a 0.52 WHIP.

Gomez was given a night off Saturday, Paul Hagen of MLB.com reports.

Gomez has made 20 appearances this season, which places him near the very top of the MLB leaderboard. Hector Neris also had the night off Saturday, so David Hernandez was given a save chance, which he converted. Gomez should be available Sunday if the Phillies generate another save opportunity.

Hernandez allowed one run on two hits and a walk but nailed down his first save of the season in a 4-3 victory against the Reds on Saturday.

With closer Jeanmar Gomez and Hector Neris unavailable due to rest, manager Pete Mackanin called upon Hernandez with a two-run lead in the ninth. The first three batters reached on a walk, single and double, which pulled the Reds within one. Hernandez induced a ground out and fly out against the next two batters, and Phillies outfielder Tyler Goeddel cut down Eugenio Suarez, who was trying to score on a sacrifice fly attempt, at home to end the game. Hernandez has one save and eight holds with one blown save this season.

Adleman (1-1) allowed three runs on eight hits while striking out three and walking two in his first MLB loss to the Phillies on Saturday.

The 28-year-old rookie looked a little more human in this outing than in his first two MLB starts. He allowed an RBI double in the fourth to Ryan Howard and back-to-back singles in the fifth that scored two more. Even still, he threw 47 of his 67 pitches for strikes and his ERA through 16 innings is just 3.38. Adleman also has a 1.38 WHIP, .259 batting average against and 7.3 K/9 rate through three MLB outings. His next start will be Friday against the Mariners.
