  • Shelby Miller RP | CHC

Diamondbacks' Shelby Miller: Impresses in first rehab start

MIller (elbow) covered five innings and gave up one run for High-A Visalia in his first rehab start Tuesday. He surrendered four hits and no walks and struck out eight.

After a couple of starts at extended spring training, Miller pitched in a non-controlled setting Tuesday for the first time since April 23, 2017, when he exited a start against the Dodgers with forearm tightness that later required Tommy John surgery. Perhaps most impressive about Miller's first rehab outing was his impeccable control, as he tossed 52 of his 65 pitches for strikes. Miller is slated to make at least one more start in the minors before potentially coming off the 60-day disabled list and rejoining the Arizona rotation in early-to-mid June.

  • Dominic Leone RP | CHW

Cardinals' Dominic Leone: Shifted to 60-day DL

Leone (biceps) was moved to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.

Leone will head to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Alex Reyes, who's making his first start Wednesday following 2017 Tommy John surgery. Leone still doesn't have a clear timetable for his return after it was revealed that he's struggling with nerve damage in his upper arm. The 26-year-old right-hander has accrued a 4.15 ERA with 15 strikeouts and four holds over 13 innings this season.

  • Mike Mayers RP | TOR

Cardinals' Mike Mayers: Sent to Triple-A

Mayers was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.

Mayers will head down to the minors following the reinstatement of Alex Reyes from the 60-day disabled list. In 10 appearances out of the bullpen, the 26-year-old posted a 2.63 ERA and 1.46 WHIP with eight strikeouts across 13.2 innings.

  • Alex Reyes RP | LAD

    Cardinals' Alex Reyes: Activated Wednesday

Reyes (elbow) was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list Wednesday.

As expected, Reyes came off the disabled list, and he'll get the nod on the hill for Wednesday's series finale against Milwaukee. He underwent Tommy John surgery in February of 2017 and hasn't pitched in the major leagues since the back end of the 2016 season.

  • Dennis Santana RP | ARI

Dodgers' Dennis Santana: Headed to big leagues

The Dodgers will recall Santana from Triple-A Oklahoma City ahead of Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Robert Murray of FanRagSports.com reports.

It's likely just a short-term promotion for Santana, who is regarded as one of the top pitching prospects in the organization. With Brock Stewart lasting just four innings in Monday's start and Kenta Maeda exiting in the second inning Tuesday with a hip strain, the Dodgers' bullpen has been quite overworked the past two days, so Santana will offer a much-needed fresh arm in long relief. Unless Maeda's injury sends him to the disabled list and creates an opening in the rotation, it seems likely that Santana will report back to Triple-A by the end of the week. Over his 10 starts in the minors this season -- the first eight of which came at Double-A Tulsa -- Santana has accrued a 2.54 ERA and 65:16 K:BB in 49.2 innings.

  • Jordan Hicks RP | CHW

Cardinals' Jordan Hicks: Strikeouts keep coming Tuesday

Hicks fired two perfect innings in a win over the Brewers on Tuesday, recording four strikeouts.

Approximately one week ago, Hicks expressed a commitment to incorporating more offspeed pitches into his repertoire, partly in an attempt to get more swings-and-misses and make his triple-digit fastball and sinker even more effective. He's subsequently recorded seven strikeouts over the 5.2 innings covering his last four appearances, with three of Tuesday's punchouts coming courtesy of the slider he's using more often, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.

  • Daniel Hudson RP | LAD

Dodgers' Daniel Hudson: Gives up two in relief

Hudson allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out two over two innings of relief in Tuesday's loss to the Phillies.

Starter Kenta Maeda was forced out of this one after just 1.2 innings of work with a hip strain, pushing the bullpen to work overtime Tuesday. Hudson now has a 6.35 ERA on the year to go along with just a 13:10 K:BB over 17 innings, so he will likely continue being deployed in lower-leverage situations.

  • Brad Boxberger RP | CHC

Diamondbacks' Brad Boxberger: Locks down 13th save Tuesday

Boxberger struck out one in a clean ninth inning to earn the save Tuesday against the Reds.

Boxberger retired the Reds on 11 pitches (nine strikes) to pick up his 13th save of the season. Boxberger has now allowed just four hits over his last 11 innings of work, striking out 15 and walking five in that span. The right-hander is 13-for-14 in save chances and carries a 1.80 ERA and 1.15 WHIP while holding opponents to a .189 batting average.

  • Giants' Dereck Rodriguez: Injury not deemed serious

Rodriguez is expected to be OK after taking a line drive off his right leg Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

X-rays on Rodriguez's injured leg came back negative Tuesday and the team does not expect him to be affected by the issue moving forward. Consider him as day-to-day case, though he should be fine to pitch again after some rest.

  • Giants' Dereck Rodriguez: Leaves Tuesday's game

Rodriguez exited Tuesday's game against the Rockies after taking a line drive off his lower right leg, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The liner came off the bat of Ian Desmond at 108 mph, forcing Rodriguez to exit from his major-league debut. Giants starter Jeff Samardzija (shoulder) left the game after one inning, pressing Rodriguez into early mop-up duty. The 25-year-old allowed four runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk over 3.1 innings while striking out four. The severity of the injury is unclear at this point, but Rodriguez was going to be unavailable for a few days regardless, having thrown 69 pitches Tuesday.
