  • Mets' Robert Gsellman: Likely unavailable Wednesday

Gsellman (illness) returned to the team prior to Wednesday's game but manager Mickey Callaway is uncertain if Gsellman will be able to pitch, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports. "He's going to be a little weak, (he) hasn't eaten in a couple days," Callaway said.

Gsellman was unavailable Tuesday due to strep throat, and though he's back in the clubhouse, it doesn't look like he's healthy enough to pitch at the moment. There's obviously a chance that his condition will improve over the next few hours. Look for Seth Lugo and/or Jerry Blevins to be utilized in any save situations if Gsellman is unable to pitch.

  • Kirby Yates RP | PIT

Padres' Kirby Yates: Locks up sixth save

Yates recorded two outs, including a strikeout, without allowing a run to pick up the save in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Mariners.

Rookie starter Jacob Nix nearly went the distance, but was pulled in favor of Yates after coughing up a solo home run with one out in the ninth. The 31-year-old had been going through a bit of a rough stretch prior to Tuesday's outing -- he allowed at least one run in three of four appearances while picking up three losses in that span -- but he still has a 2.13 ERA and 12.6 K/9, and figures to have a firm grip on the closer's role.

  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Dodgers' Kenley Jansen: Recent struggles continue

Jansen gave up two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out one over an inning in Tuesday's 8-4 win over the Rangers.

Jansen returned from two scheduled rest days, but his post-DL struggles continued in a non-save situation. The 30-year-old has now given up seven runs (four homers) in four appearances since returning from an irregular heartbeat. Jansen noted that his heart medication was affecting his adrenaline in his previous three outings, and while he stopped taking the medicine prior to Tuesday's appearance, the sudden change caused him to be "too amped up," Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. On a positive note, there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the closer's arm, as his big cutter was routinely sitting between 92 and 94 mph Tuesday.

  • Reds' Raisel Iglesias: Picks up 24th save

Iglesias earned the save Tuesday, giving up one run on two hits and zero walks while striking out one in 1.1 innings against the Brewers.

He has given up a run in each of his last two outings, taking a loss Aug. 24 in Chicago but notching the save in this one at home against Milwaukee, thanks to his teammates spotting him a 9-6 lead with four outs to go. Even with some recent bumps in the road, Iglesias has a firm hold on the closer role in Cincinnati.

  • Mets' Robert Gsellman: Out with strep throat

Gsellman is unavailable for Tuesday's game against the Cubs due to strep throat, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Gsellman is away from the team recovering from the illness, leaving Seth Lugo and Jerry Blevins to handle any save chances in the meantime. It's not yet known when Gsellman will be cleared to return. He should be considered day-to-day.

  • Dennis Santana RP | ARI

Dodgers' Dennis Santana: Throws live batting practice

Santana (shoulder) threw a live batting practice session Tuesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic Los Angeles reports.

Santana only recently returned to the mound after injuring his rotator cuff back in June. It's unclear whether or not he'll make it back in time to pitch before the end of the season.

  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Diamondbacks' Matt Andriese: Optioned to High-A

Andriese was optioned to High-A Visalia on Tuesday.

There's no obvious reason why Andriese was sent all the way down to High-A. Regardless of why he was sent there rather than Triple-A, his stay in the minors is likely to be short, as he has a perfectly adequate 4.09 ERA in 72.2 innings this season, leaving him a likely candidate for a callup when rosters expand in September. Christian Walker was recalled from Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move.

  • Patrick Weigel RP | COL

Braves' Patrick Weigel: Rehabbing in GCL

Weigel (elbow) is currently on a minor-league rehab assignment with the Gulf Coast League Braves.

Weigel is in the midst of working his way back to 100 percent after undergoing Tommy John surgery in June of 2017. He's appeared in four games for the Gulf Coast League Braves over the past two weeks, allowing just two hits while striking out six over four scoreless innings.

  • Mark Leiter RP | ATH

Phillies' Mark Leiter: Designated for assignment

Leiter was designated for assignment on Tuesday in order to make room on the 40-man roster for new acquisition Jose Bautista.

Leiter came into the year looking like a potential back-of-the-rotation candidate, as he posted a decent 4.19 xFIP in 90.2 innings last season. It didn't work out for him this year, as he missed the first month and a half with a forearm strain and posted an ERA of 5.40 in 16.2 innings of relief when healthy and up with the big-league club. As a 27-year-old with a career 5.03 ERA, he's unlikely to generate much interesting on the waiver wire, though his respectable strikeout and walk rates could be enough for some team to take a chance.

  • Shelby Miller RP | CHC

Diamondbacks' Shelby Miller: Extends throwing distance

Miller (elbow) threw from approximately 75-to-100 feet Monday, Martin Oppegaard of MLB.com reports.

The Diamondbacks are planning on having Miller extend his throwing distance off flat ground a little more this week before perhaps clearing the right-hander to resume mound work. Miller has been eased along slowly since being shut down in late July with right elbow inflammation and appears to have run out of time to build up to a starter's workload before the end of the regular season. If Miller endures no setbacks in his recovery and is able to return from the 60-day disabled list in September, he would likely be limited to a low-leverage role out of the bullpen.
