  • A.J. Puckett SP | CHC

Braves' A.J. Puckett: Heads to High-A

Puckett (elbow) will report to High-A Rome to begin his tenure with the Atlanta organization.

A 2016 second-round pick of the Royals, Puckett was later traded to the White Sox the following year. He only made five minor-league starts for the organization and hasn't pitched since after developing elbow problems that ultimately required Tommy John surgery in March 2019. Now more than two years removed from the procedure, a healthy Puckett will look to reboot his career in his third organization.

  • Tejay Antone RP | CIN

Reds' Tejay Antone: Implodes in relief

Antone was charged with a blown save after giving up four runs on two hits and two walks over 1.1 innings in Sunday's 13-12 win over the Cubs in 10 innings.

After picking up his first career save Friday in the series opener, Antone was summoned with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to protect a one-run lead. He got out of the seventh unscathed and then saw the Reds put up three runs in the top of the eighth, but Antone couldn't hold up to his end of the bargain. He walked two of the first four batters he faced in the bottom of the eighth, then surrendered an RBI single before coughing up a game-tying three-run home run to Ian Happ. The poor outing should do little to diminish what's been an outstanding start to the season for Antone, who still owns excellent ratios (2.93 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, 12.3 K/9) across his nine relief appearances.

  • Dinelson Lamet RP | LAD

Padres' Dinelson Lamet: Throws off mound again

Manager Jayce Tingler said Lamet (forearm) felt good coming out of his most recent bullpen session Sunday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

Both Lamet and Ryan Weathers (arm) were able to throw off a mound Sunday, but neither will be options to start in Monday's series opener against the Pirates. The nod will instead go to reliever Miguel Diaz in what's shaping up to be a bullpen game, but Lamet and Weathers will remain candidates to start Tuesday. Lamet's forearm injury is believed to be more serious than Weathers' arm issue, so it's possible the former will require more build-up time before the Padres are comfortable reinserting him into the rotation. Even if Lamet ends up getting the nod Tuesday, he'll likely be facing a limited pitch count.

  • Ryan Weathers SP | NYY

Padres' Ryan Weathers: Completes bullpen session

Padres manager Jayce Tingler indicated that Weathers (arm) felt good coming out of a bullpen session Sunday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

Both Weathers and Dinelson Lamet (forearm) were able to complete their respective side sessions without incident, leaving both in the mix to start Tuesday's game against the Pirates for the time being. The Padres will turn to reliever Miguel Diaz to make a spot start for Chris Paddack (COVID-19 injured list) in Monday's series opener, but he would likely head back to the bullpen or move back to the minors if both Weathers and Lamet are cleared to return Tuesday or at some point later in the week. Weathers experienced arm fatigue in his most recent outing April 28, but Tingler remains optimistic that the rookie will avoid a stint on the IL.

  • Corbin Martin RP | CHC

    Diamondbacks' Corbin Martin: Consistency needed

Martin continues to throw at the alternate training site but has not yet been considered for a promotion, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Martin, who was the key piece in the Zack Greinke trade from July 2019, has not pitched for the Diamondbacks since joining the team. He was traded after undergoing Tommy John elbow surgery, then suffered an oblique strain last summer, wiping out 2020. "The reports that I'm hearing is he has some really good, solid moments but might not have that consistency that we're looking for," manager Torey Lovullo said. The Diamondbacks would rather the right-hander develop that consistency in the minors and not on MLB time.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mets' Edwin Diaz: Dealing with back tightness

Diaz was removed from Sunday's win over the Phillies due to back tightness, Justin Toscano of The Bergen Record reports.

Diaz admitted that he was dealing with a tight back during a mound visit with no outs in the bottom of the ninth, but he tried to pitch through the injury. The issue likely contributed to his struggles in his appearance, as he recorded only two outs while the Phillies tagged him for three runs on two hits and two walks. He'll be evaluated Monday as the Mets attempt to determine the severity of the injury. If Diaz misses time, the Mets would likely take a committee approach at closer, with the likes of Jeurys Familia, Trevor May, Miguel Castro and Aaron Loup all potentially factoring into the mix for saves.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mets' Edwin Diaz: Exits with trainer

Diaz left Sunday's win over the Phillies in the bottom of the ninth inning with an apparent injury, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

Diaz entered Sunday's game in the ninth inning while the Mets were leading 8-4, but he gave up three runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one in two-thirds of an inning. The right-hander nearly gave up a game-tying home run to Rhys Hoskins, but the homer was overturned via replay. However, Diaz was visited by a trainer and removed from the game after he gave up the hit to Hoskins. The nature and severity of Diaz's injury aren't yet clear.

  • Pedro Strop RP | CHC

Cubs' Pedro Strop: Takes personal leave

Strop has taken a personal leave of absence from the Cubs, Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago reports.

Strop was sent to the Cubs' alternate training site in mid-April, but the right-hander posted a picture of himself in the Dominican Republic on Sunday. The Cubs have yet to comment on Strop's status, and it's not yet clear when he could return to the team.

  • Chris Devenski RP | PIT

Diamondbacks' Chris Devenski: Credited with win

Devenski (1-0) allowed two earned runs on three hits while striking out two in an inning of work against Colorado on Sunday. He got the win after blowing the save.

Devenski blew the lead in the top of the eighth inning and was charged with a blown save. However, he received the win after the Diamondbacks regained the lead in the bottom of the same inning. The 30-year-old has pitched only four innings this season as he has missed time for personal reasons. He has made only eight appearances since 2019, pitching 7.2 innings.

  • Wil Crowe RP | PIT

Pirates' Wil Crowe: Charged with first loss

Crowe (0-1) allowed three runs on three hits and four walks while striking out two in five innings to take the loss against the Cardinals on Sunday.

Crowe was sharp in his first start of the season April 25 but had to settle for a no-decision. The right-hander was relatively effective again Sunday, but he gave up a three-run homer in the second inning. Crowe was unable to get any run support from the Pirates and was charged with his first loss of the year. He's now posted a 4.66 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in 9.2 innings across three appearances (two starts) in 2021. Crowe tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road against the Cubs on Saturday.
