  • Sean Nolin RP | MIA

Nationals' Sean Nolin: Tagged with loss

Nolin (0-1) took the loss in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the Nationals. He allowed four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and zero walks in three innings.

Nolin made his first MLB appearance since 2015, and New York didn't have any issues getting on base against him. It'll likely only be a spot start for the left-hander since Washington has three scheduled off days within the next couple weeks.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mets' Edwin Diaz: Secures 25th save

Diaz delivered a scoreless seventh inning during the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Nationals to earn the save. He gave up one hit and had zero strikeouts or walks.

Diaz also delivered a scoreless frame Wednesday to record a save, so he's unlikely to be available for the nightcap of Thursday's twin bill. The right-hander has converted six straight saves and has a 2.57 ERA in eight innings since blowing three consecutive save chances in mid-July.

  • Tyler Beede RP | CHC

Giants' Tyler Beede: Lands on injured list

Beede was placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list for an undisclosed reason Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The Giants are in need of a starter for Saturday's game after Johnny Cueto (elbow) was placed on the 10-day IL on Wednesday, but Beede won't be an option due to his own injury. The 28-year-old had posted a 6.92 ERA and 2.08 WHIP in 13 innings across four starts since he returned to the minors, and it's not yet clear when he could return to action.

  • Jordan Weems RP | LAD

Diamondbacks' Jordan Weems: Outrighted to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks outrighted Weems to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Weems will stay in the organization after none of MLB's other 29 teams put in a claim for the right-handed reliever when he was exposed to waivers earlier in the week. The 28-year-old has appeared in seven games between Oakland and Arizona this season, giving up 10 earned runs on six hits and six walks across 5.2 innings.

  • Marlins' Elieser Hernandez: Dazzles in latest rehab start

Hernandez (quadriceps) made the third start of his minor-league rehab assignment at Double-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, tossing five innings and allowing one run on two hits and no walks while striking out 10.

Hernandez needed only 62 pitches (48 strikes) to record his 10 punchouts. After missing the past two months with a right quad strain, Hernandez has looked dominant through his three rehab outings, allowing only one run while posting an 18:0 K:BB in 11.2 innings. The Marlins haven't announced their plans for Hernandez, but based on where his pitch count currently stands and how he's performed in the minors, his next start will most likely come with the big club either Sunday against the Cubs or during next week's series with Atlanta. The 26-year-old right-hander makes for an intriguing pitcher to stash in leagues where he's sitting on the waiver wire.

  • John Axford RP | MIL

Brewers' John Axford: Moves to 60-day IL

Axford (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Thursday.

Axford's shift to the 60-day IL is simply procedural since he's dealing with significant structural damage in his elbow and won't pitch again this season. The Brewers haven't yet announced whether the 38-year-old will require surgery or if he'll be ready for the start of spring training in 2022.

  • Daniel Hudson RP | LAD

Padres' Daniel Hudson: Ineffective in Padres debut

Hudson allowed one run on two hits and two walks without retiring a batter Wednesday versus the Marlins.

The right-hander is expected to eventually fill a high-leverage role in the Padres' bullpen, but he was brought in with San Diego down 6-0 in the eighth inning Wednesday. Hudson gave up a pair of hits to lead off the frame, then followed with a pair of walks to force in a run. His final line could have looked much worse, but Miguel Diaz inherited the bases-loaded, no-outs situation and managed to emerge from the frame without allowing another run. Hudson's shaky performance can perhaps partly be attributed to a layoff that lasted over two weeks, but San Diego may need him to turn things around quickly with top setup man Drew Pomeranz (forearm) placed on the 10-day IL on Wednesday.

  • Hoby Milner RP | CHC

Brewers' Hoby Milner: Returns to minors

Milner was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Thursday.

Milner's latest stint in the majors lasted just a single day. He tossed a scoreless inning against the Cubs on Wednesday but will now make way for Josh Hader (illness), who returns from the COVID-19 injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Josh Hader RP | HOU

Brewers' Josh Hader: Returns as expected

Hader (illness) was activated off the COVID-19 injured list as expected Thursday.

Hader tested positive for the virus back in early August, but he was able to keep throwing while on the injured list, per Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin. That suggests he should be at full strength right away and should immediately return to his normal closer role. Devin Williams will return to his usual setup role.

  • Sam Coonrod RP | NYM

Phillies' Sam Coonrod: Transferred to 60-day IL

Coonrod (forearm) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Thursday.

The move clears space on the 40-man roster for the Phillies to select David Paulino's contract. It likely has little impact on Coonrod's return timeline, as he's already missed close to 60 days with forearm tendinitis and doesn't appear to be anywhere near a return after suffering a setback in a rehab game in late July. The Phillies have yet to indicate when he's expected to be back in action.
