  • Cubs' Keegan Thompson: Starting Wednesday

Thompson will draw the start Wednesday against the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Chicago has elected to give Thompson his first start of the season Wednesday, allowing Drew Smyly to get two more days of rest before he's expected to go Friday against the Diamondbacks. The 27-year-old has appeared in seven games this year out of the bullpen, compiling an impressive 1.17 ERA and 0.96 WHIP with 21 strikeouts in 23 innings. Thompson hasn't worked more than four innings in any appearance this season and is pitching on three days' rest, so even if he fares well in Wednesday's start, he may struggle to work deep enough into the contest to qualify for a win.

  • Dillon Peters RP | PIT

Pirates' Dillon Peters: Will work as opener Wednesday

Pirates manager Derek Shelton said Peters will serve as an opener in Wednesday's game against the Dodgers, Jake Crouse of MLB.com reports.

Pittsburgh is likely to treat the series finale with the Dodgers as a bullpen day, with Peters being the first pitcher used in his third outing of the season as an opener. He faltered during his most recent relief appearance Sunday against the Reds, serving up four runs while failing to record an out. However, he turned in his best outing of the season the last time he was deployed as an opener May 4, when he struck out four over 3.1 scoreless innings against Detroit.

  • Brad Boxberger RP | CHC

Brewers' Brad Boxberger: Bags eighth hold

Boxberger tossed a scoreless seventh inning and picked up his eighth hold of the season in Tuesday's victory over the Reds.

Boxberger needed just nine pitches to get through his inning of relief and put the Brewers in position to come away with the win. Both runs he has allowed this season came in the same outing, and he owns a sparkling 1.59 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 10:1 K:BB over 11.1 innings across 13 appearances.

  • Brent Suter RP | LAA

Brewers' Brent Suter: Snags first hold

Suter struck out a batter and recorded his first hold of the season in Tuesday's victory over the Reds.

Suter faced only one batter in Tuesday's contest, but he struck him out and helped the Brewers maintain a lead they would not relinquish. Suter's ratios are a bit bloated by the four earned runs he gave up over his first four appearances of the season, but he has gotten back on track, posting a 1.35 ERA and 0.90 WHIP in 6.2 innings over his last six trips to the mound.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mets' Edwin Diaz: Nails down seventh save

Diaz gave up a hit and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his seventh save of the season in a 4-2 win over the Nationals.

The 28-year-old closer has converted six straight opportunities since his only blown save of the season to date. Diaz has been in All-Star form, posting a 1.38 ERA, 0.85 WHIP and 22:5 K:BB through his first 13 innings of 2022.

  • Josh Hader RP | HOU

Brewers' Josh Hader: Nails down 12th save

Hader walked one and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his 12th save of the season in a 5-4 win over the Reds.

His strikeout of Tommy Pham to end the game gave Hader an even 500 for his career, a mark he reached in only 293.2 innings -- making him the second-fastest pitcher in MLB history to get there, just a hair behind Aroldis Chapman's 292.0 frames. Hader has been his usual dominant self so far in 2022, giving up zero runs and only two hits through 11.1 innings with an 18:5 K:BB, good for a 42.9 percent strikeout rate.

  • Bryse Wilson RP | CHC

Pirates' Bryse Wilson: Clobbered by Dodgers

Wilson (0-2) took the loss in Tuesday's 11-1 rout at the hands of the Dodgers, surrendering six runs on eight hits and a walk over 2.2 innings. He struck out four.

Little went right for Wilson or Pittsburgh in this one, as the right-hander found himself in a 2-0 hole before the top of the first inning was done. Wilson needed 70 pitches (44 strikes) to get eight outs, and he has yet to complete five innings in any of his starts this season. He'll take a 5.82 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 20:10 K:BB through 21.2 innings into his next outing.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | LAA

Padres' Drew Pomeranz: Not yet throwing from mound

Pomeranz (elbow) has been regularly playing catch from 120 feet but hasn't yet thrown from a mound, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Pomeranz is eligible to return from the injured list in less than a month, but it's unclear if he'll be immediately ready given where he is at in his recovery at this point. The left-hander figures to play a prominent role in San Diego's bullpen whenever he is able to return.

  • Jarlin Garcia RP | PIT

Giants' Jarlin Garcia: Covers two scoreless innings

Garcia logged two perfect innings and struck out one during Tuesday's 9-2 win over the Rockies.

Garcia had no trouble protecting a large lead in the seventh and eighth innings. The reliever's two runs allowed this season are both unearned, and he hasn't given up any in his last 5.2 innings. He's added a 0.88 WHIP and 8:6 K:BB across 11.1 innings in a high-leverage role. He's only picked up one hold in 11 outings, but Garcia remains an unsung hero in the Giants' bullpen while serving as a trusted asset for manager Gabe Kapler.

  • Padres' Adrian Morejon: Solid in first rehab outing

Morejon (elbow) tossed three innings for Single-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday, allowing one run on two hits while striking out five.

In his first trip to the mound since undergoing Tommy John surgery in April of last year, Morejon threw 40 pitches -- 29 of which were strikes. He gave up a home run to the first batter he faced but then retired nine of his final 10 hitters. The left-hander has started eight of the 16 major-league games in which he has appeared, but given San Diego's stacked rotation, he will likely be used out of the bullpen when he rejoins the big club. Morejon is eligible to return from the injured list June 7.
