  • Alexis Diaz RP | TEX

Reds' Alexis Diaz: Notches five-out save

Diaz allowed one hit and struck out four batters over 1.2 innings while earning a save over the Cubs on Sunday.

Diaz took the mound with the bases jammed in the eighth inning and promptly struck out the next two batters to escape the jam. He then worked out of another one-out threat in the ninth to pick up his fifth save of the year. The right-handed rookie lowered his season ERA to 1.83 with a 60:22 K:BB through 44.1 innings. Diaz has given up just one run over his last 16 appearances.

  • Derek Law RP | ARI

Reds' Derek Law: Signs minor-league deal with Reds

Law signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Sunday.

Law was designated for assignment by the Tigers in early August and elected free agency after clearing waivers. He'll settle for a minor-league deal with the Reds and will report to Triple-A Louisville to begin his time with the organization. Over 33 appearances at Triple-A Toledo this year, the 31-year-old has posted a 3.23 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 39 innings.

  • Cubs' Keegan Thompson: Struggles in short start

Thompson allowed four runs on two hits across 1.2 innings and did not factor into the decision Sunday against the Reds. He walked three and struck out two.

Thompson labored in the outing, as he needed 70 pitches to retire just five batters. That was enough for manager David Ross, saddling the righty with his second-shortest start this season. Thompson's shortest appearance came on June 12, when he allowed five runs while retiring just two batters against the Yankees. He's still been pretty good overall with a 3.67 ERA and 1.27 WHIP across 100.2 innings, to go along with a 9-5 record. Thompson will look for a smoother outing in his next scheduled start Friday against the Brewers.

  • Brad Hand RP | ATL

Phillies' Brad Hand: Tosses scoreless inning Sunday

Hand allowed a hit and no walks while striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning during Sunday's loss to the Mets.

Hand picked up a save July 8 and recorded a hold July 15 but has been used mainly in lower-leverage situations recently. He also got increased competition for closing duties since the Phillies acquired David Robertson ahead of the trade deadline. Although Hand hasn't been used in save situations recently, he's been effective since the All-Star break, posting a 1.59 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 5.2 innings over six appearances to begin the second half of the year.

  • Wil Crowe RP | PIT

Pirates' Wil Crowe: Handed seventh loss

Crowe (4-7) took the loss during Sunday's 8-7 defeat at the hands of the Giants, allowing two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out one in 1.1 innings.

Crowe navigated a clean eighth inning on 12 pitches, and manager Derek Shelton opted to stick with the reliever for the ninth after Pittsburgh took the lead in the top of the inning. A leadoff Evan Longoria single brought the winning run to the plate, and Thairo Estrada tagged Crowe for a walkoff home run with one out. The 27-year-old has now faltered in the ninth inning after submitting a stress-free eighth in consecutive games. Closer David Bednar (back) is due to return from the IL within the next week, which could spell the end of Crowe's chances to accrue saves.

  • Camilo Doval RP | NYY

Giants' Camilo Doval: Notches fourth win

Doval (4-5) earned the win during Sunday's 8-7 victory over Pittsburgh, allowing an unearned run on two hits and a walk in one inning. He struck out one.

Doval was brought in for the ninth inning of a 6-6 game despite pitching Friday and Saturday. He found himself in a two-on, one-out jam after a Bryan Reynolds single and Ben Gamel walk. A subsequent infield single and Evan Longoria throwing error allowed Reynolds to score while Gamel was thrown out at the plate. Doval struck out Oneil Cruz to end the frame and became the victor when San Francisco walked it off in the bottom of the inning. The 25-year-old tossed 44 pitches across three appearances this weekend, during which he allowed four baserunners and an unearned run while striking out three across three innings.

  • Tanner Scott RP | LAD

Marlins' Tanner Scott: Blows save, takes loss

Scott (4-5) allowed three runs on three hits and three walks in one inning Sunday against Atlanta. He blew the save opportunity and took the loss.

Scott blew the save on the very first pitch he threw, serving up a game-tying shot to Michael Harris to begin the ninth. The 28-year-old southpaw then gave up two more runs and took his fifth loss of the year. It was his first blown save sine July 13 and the first time he's given up more than two runs in an outing since June 15. Scott is now sporting a 67:34 K:BB and a 4.60 ERA through 47 innings.

  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Braves' Kenley Jansen: Locks down save

Jansen allowed a hit and struck out one during a scoreless inning and earned a save over Miami on Sunday.

Jansen fired three shutout frames and earned three saves during the four-game set against the Marlins. He's now converted 27 of his 31 chances on the year while registering a 3.25 ERA through 44.1 frames. The veteran righty has secured seven saves while posting a 2.31 ERA since his last blown save June 26.

  • Dakota Hudson SP | LAA

Cardinals' Dakota Hudson: Won't start Wednesday

The Cardinals will skip Hudson's scheduled turn through the rotation Wednesday against the Rockies, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

St. Louis has a scheduled day off Monday and has decided to adjust the rotation. Hudson missed a couple weeks in July with a neck strain and has a 4.73 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 9:8 K:BB across 13.1 innings since returning from the injured list. The Cardinals will require a fifth starter next weekend in Arizona, and it remains to be seen if Hudson is called upon at that point.

  • Riley Pint RP | COL

Rockies' Riley Pint: Promoted to Triple-A

Pint was promoted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Aug. 10.

Pint has quietly had an impressive season after returning from a brief retirement. He's pitched exclusively out of the bullpen but maintained a 29.6 percent strikeout rate and 53.8 percent groundball rate across 42.2 innings with Double-A Hartford. Pint has walked far too many batters -- he had a walk rate of 15.6 percent in the same span -- but if he can find his control, he could resurrect his career as a high-leverage reliever.
