  • Jhoan Duran RP | PHI

Phillies' Jhoan Duran: Earns win in relief Wednesday

Duran (1-1) earned the win Wednesday against the Nationals after pitching a scoreless inning in relief, striking out one.

Duran was called upon duty in the 10th inning after the Phillies mounted a late comeback to force extra innings, and he only needed six pitches (four strikes) to retire the side. This was Duran's first win of the season, and he's also gone 2-for-2 in save chances early on. He hasn't allowed a run in three of his first four outings in 2026.

  • Cole Henry RP | WAS

Nationals' Cole Henry: Melts down in relief duty

Henry (0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief Wednesday against the Phillies after allowing one unearned run on three hits and a walk across one-third of an inning

Henry opened the season with back-to-back scoreless outings, but he had a rough showing in this one and gave up the game-winning hit to Justin Crawford. Through three outings and 2.1 innings so far, Henry owns a 2:2 K:BB, but the fact that he's allowed four hits already is far from promising.

  • Jimmy Herget RP | COL

Rockies' Jimmy Herget: First save of season

Herget earned the save Wednesday against the Rockies after pitching a scoreless 10th inning.

Herget stepped up to the mound with the Rockies holding a 2-1 lead and got the job done, needing 16 pitches (12 strikes) to retire George Springer, Nathan Lukes and Vladimir Guerrero. Herget has yet to allow a run in three outings this season, allowing hits with no walks and fanning three across 3.0 innings of work.

  • Rockies' Brennan Bernardino: Earns win in relief

Bernardino (1-0) earned the win in relief after tossing a scoreless inning against the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Bernardino entered the game in the ninth inning and tossed a scoreless inning, needing only 11 pitches (eight strikes) to get the job done. Bernardino has enjoyed a solid start to the season and has yet to allow a run across four outings and 3.0 innings, allowing two hits and posting a 1:0 K:BB in that span.

  • Grant Holman RP | LAD

Dodgers' Grant Holman: Claimed by LAD

The Dodgers claimed Holman off waivers from the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Holman camped with the Diamondbacks in spring training after being designated by the Athletics for assignment in early February, but he was subsequently DFA'd by Arizona after failing to make the team's Opening Day roster. He was reassigned to the minors by the Dodgers after being claimed off waivers and will likely report to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Holman appeared in 22 regular-season games (two starts) for the Athletics in 2025, finishing with a 5.09 ERA, 1.52 WHIP, three holds and a 17:9 K:BB across 23 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Jonathan Loaisiga: Secures rare save Wednesday

Loaisiga allowed two hits and no walks in a scoreless ninth inning while picking up the save Wednesday against the Tigers.

Closer Paul Sewald worked each of the last two days and three of the past four for the Diamondbacks, so he was perhaps unavailable for Wednesday's save chance. Loaisiga stepped up for his first save opportunity of the season, netting just his ninth career save, and the hard-throwing right-hander is at least in the mix for high-leverage work with 3.1 scoreless innings and a hold under his belt so far.

  • Nick Pivetta RP | SD

Padres' Nick Pivetta: Rebounds in second start

Pivetta (1-1) allowed one hit and two walks while striking out eight over five scoreless innings to earn the win over the Giants on Wednesday.

Pivetta's first start of the season was rough, but he bounced back in his second outing. In the 2025 regular season, he had eight outings with at least eight strikeouts, and he won six of those games with no-decisions in the other two. The right-hander now has a 6.75 ERA and a 12:5 K:BB across eight innings over his two starts this season. He is tentatively lined up to make his first road start of the year in Pittsburgh next week, which could be his first outing of a two-start week.

  • Cubs' Daniel Palencia: Closes door in non-save situation

Palencia worked around a hit to pitch a clean inning of relief in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Angels. He struck out one.

Palencia has now made two scoreless appearances so far this season but has yet to see any save opportunities. Those should come for the flamethrowing righty, who looked good as Chicago's closer last year and then continued to impress for Team Venezuela during its championship run through the World Baseball Classic last month. Palencia is the Cubs' unquestioned end-game option, with offseason additions Hunter Harvey and Phil Maton working ahead of him in setup roles.

  • Gregory Soto RP | PIT

Pirates' Gregory Soto: Misses out on save again

Soto struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Wednesday during the Pirates' 8-3 win over the Reds.

For the second straight day, Soto was warming up to handle a save situation in the bottom of the ninth, only for Pittsburgh's offense to churn out insurance runs in the top of the frame and erase the save chance. The veteran southpaw has a 0.00 ERA through 4.1 innings to begin the season with an 8:2 K:BB, and he currently appears to be the favorite for save chances ahead of Dennis Santana.

  • Dodgers' Jake Cousins: Moved to 60-day IL

The Dodgers transferred Cousins (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

The transaction clears a spot on the 40-man roster for righty Jake Eder, who was acquired from the Nationals on Wednesday. Cousins is recovering from Tommy John surgery and will be sidelined until after the All-Star break.
