Josh Simpson RP | MIA
Marlins' Josh Simpson: Sent back to minors
The Marlins optioned Simpson to Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday.
One day after being torched for seven runs while retiring just one batter in a regrettable relief appearance, Simpson finds himself back in the minors. Seth Martinez and Freddy Tarnok are up from Jacksonville to supplement the Marlins' bullpen.

Freddy Tarnok RP | MIA
Marlins' Freddy Tarnok: Back up with big club
The Marlins recalled Tarnok from Triple-A Jacksonville on Wednesday.
Tarnok has been lights out at Jacksonville lately, tossing 14.1 scoreless innings with an 18:6 K:BB across his last 10 appearances. The 26-year-old could work his way into high-leverage situations but also offers the ability to go multiple innings.

Jordan Wicks RP | CHC
Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Logs scoreless frame in MLB return
Wicks tossed a scoreless eighth inning in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to the Giants.
Wicks was making his first MLB appearance since July 11, which was a much rougher outing in which he allowed six runs on 10 hits over three innings. The lefty was briefly called up from Triple-A Iowa on Aug. 19 to serve as the 27th man for a doubleheader, but he didn't see any game action. Wicks has struggled in the majors the last two seasons, and he'll likely see low-leverage work for however long he sticks with the Cubs this time around.

Taylor Rogers RP | CHC
Cubs' Taylor Rogers: Continues impressive run
Rogers, who tossed a scoreless inning of relief in Tuesday's loss to the Giants, has allowed just one run and struck out 11 batters across 7.1 innings since joining the Cubs at the trade deadline.
Rogers allowed a solo home run back on Aug. 18, but outside of that, he's been flawless with his new team. The veteran lefty has quickly earned trust as a high-leverage setup option in front of closer Daniel Palencia. For the season, Rogers has a 2.23 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 10.0 K/9. With a career 10.5 K/9, he should be expected to keep racking up strikeouts at a high rate the rest of the year.

Robert Suarez RP | SD
Padres' Robert Suarez: Locks down 35th save
Suarez picked up the save Tuesday against the Mariners. He allowed no hits or walks with no strikeouts over a perfect inning.
Suarez gave up some hard contact but retired the side to lock down a Padres win Tuesday. The flamethrowing right-hander has endured shaky moments when his command wavers, yet he's still converted 35 of 40 save chances -- tied for the most saves in the majors with Carlos Estevez.

Tanner Scott RP | LAD
Dodgers' Tanner Scott: Reaches 20-save mark
Scott allowed a hit in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Reds.
This was Scott's second appearance since returning from left elbow inflammation that landed him on the injured list in late July. The southpaw has reclaimed his closing role, though Kirby Yates has also recently returned from a back injury and could also mix in for save chances if the Dodgers want to limit Scott's workload. For the season, Scott has collected 20 saves, eight holds and seven blown saves while adding a 3.97 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 50:11 K:BB over 47.2 innings.

Ryan Walker RP | SF
Giants' Ryan Walker: Picks up 12th save
Walker allowed a hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Cubs.
Walker has retaken the closer role since Randy Rodriguez (elbow) was injured over the weekend. This was Walker's seventh straight scoreless outing, and he has racked up 10 strikeouts without walking a batter over 7.1 innings in that span. For the season, he's up to 12 saves, eight holds and four blown saves with a 3.57 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 53:14 K:BB through 53 innings. Walker is likely to go unchallenged for closing duties while Rodriguez and Erik Miller (elbow) are both out.

Jhoan Duran RP | PHI
Phillies' Jhoan Duran: Saddled with sixth loss
Duran (6-6) took the loss Tuesday against the Mets, allowing one run on four hits and no walks. He failed to record an out.
The Mets strung together four straight hits to walk it off, though it wasn't a save situation for Duran in a 5-5 game to begin the ninth inning. The hard-throwing right-hander has now permitted a run in two of his past three outings, although he should remain Philadelphia's closer going forward. Duran owns a 2.35 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 9:0 K:BB over his first 7.2 innings with the Phillies.

Carmen Mlodzinski RP | PIT
Pirates' Carmen Mlodzinski: Slated to start Wednesday
Pirates manager Don Kelly said that Mlodzinski will start Wednesday's game against the Cardinals, Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Wednesday will mark Mlodzinski's 11th start of the season and his second start of the month. The 26-year-old righty has posted a 5.15 ERA and 1.49 WHIP over 43.2 innings across his previous 10 starts, but he's had better luck while facing the Cardinals, who have managed just three runs in 9.2 innings against him. Given that Mlodzinski hasn't covered more than four innings in any appearance in the majors or minors dating back to June 4, the Pirates are unlikely to have him work deep enough into the start to qualify for a win. Kelly hasn't outlined his plans for once Mlodzinski exits the game, but Bubba Chandler is available on four days' rest and could be used in a piggyback role out of the bullpen.

Ryan Helsley RP | NYM
Mets' Ryan Helsley: Charged with ninth blown save
Helsley took a blown save Tuesday against Philadelphia, allowing two runs on one hit and two walks in one-third of an inning. He struck out one.
The blown save was Helsley's ninth of the year and his fourth with the Mets, making him 0-for-4 on save opportunities since landing with his new team. The hard-throwing right-hander now has a disastrous 10.38 ERA, 2.31 WHIP and 11:7 K:BB over 8.2 innings for New York. Given his struggles, it wouldn't be surprising to see the club use Helsley in lower-leverage situations until he bounces back.
