  • White Sox's Gregory Santos: Balks in game-winning run

Santos (2-2) blew the save and took the loss Tuesday against the Royals. He allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and one walk over two-thirds of an inning.

Santos was unable to convert on Tuesday's save opportunity, marking his third straight blown save. While only one of the two ninth-inning runs was earned, Santos still allowed three baserunners and committed a balk with the bases loaded to give Kansas City the win. Over his last six appearances (5.1 frames), Santos owns a 10.13 ERA and a 6:3 K:BB.

  • Kenley Jansen RP | DET

Red Sox's Kenley Jansen: Blows save in extras

Jansen (3-6) blew the save and took the loss Tuesday against the Rays. He allowed three runs (two earned) on one hit and one walk without recording an out in the 11th inning.

After Boston took a one-run lead in the top of the 11th inning, Jansen issued a walk to Yandy Diaz to start the bottom of the frame before Brandon Lowe launched a walk-off homer. It's Jansen's first blown save since May 13 -- he'd converted his previous 20 save chances while pitching to a 2.57 ERA in 14 innings since the All-Star break. Overall, the 35-year-old Jansen is now 29-for-33 in save opportunities this season with a 3.43 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 52:16 K:BB across 44.2 innings.

  • Nick Pivetta RP | SD

Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Starting Wednesday

Pivetta will start Wednesday's game against the Rays, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

After picking up a three-inning save in his most recent relief appearance Saturday, Pivetta is now set to make his 12th start of the season. Over his 56.2 innings as a starter this season, Pivetta has turned in a 5.88 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 17.1 K-BB%, with all of those ratios representing stark downturns from what he's provided as a reliever. Since Pivetta hasn't tossed more than 40 pitches in an outing since Aug. 20, the Red Sox could look to deploy the right-hander as more of a tandem starter in front of Brandon Walter or another member of the bullpen.

  • Astros' Parker Mushinski: Rejoins big club

Mushinski was recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old was sent to Sugar Land on Aug. 21 and will rejoin the MLB roster with Ryne Stanek (ankle) landing on the injured list. Mushinski has appeared in 12 big-league games this season and has a 4.73 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 14:4 K:BB over 13.1 innings.

  • Ryne Stanek RP | STL

Astros' Ryne Stanek: Lands on injured list

Stanek was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a right ankle sprain.

The right-hander suffered the injury while covering first base during Monday's win over the Rangers and will be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks. Stanek will be first eligible for activation Sept. 20.

  • Glenn Otto RP | HOU

Rangers' Glenn Otto: DFA'd by Texas

The Rangers designated Otto for assignment on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old posted a 10.13 ERA in 10.2 frames for Texas this season and has now lost his spot on the 26-man and 40-man rosters. Otto made 27 starts for the Rangers last season and had a 4.64 ERA, but he's been working out of the bullpen for the big club in 2023.

  • Josh Sborz RP | TEX

Rangers' Josh Sborz: Out with hamstring strain

Sborz was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a hamstring strain, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Sborz took the loss Monday against Houston after he gave up five earned runs over two-thirds of an inning, which capped off a six-appearance stretch during which he surrendered 13 earned runs. The right-hander had a 3.83 ERA through 36 outings prior to that ugly span, and he'll now be sidelined for at least the next couple weeks as he attempts to get healthy.

  • Yohan Ramirez RP | PIT

White Sox's Yohan Ramirez: Claimed by White Sox

The White Sox claimed Ramirez off waivers from the Pirates on Tuesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Ramirez was designated for assignment Friday despite holding a decent 3.67 ERA and 31:14 K:BB through 34.1 innings of relief this season with Pittsburgh. The 28-year-old right-hander could get a look in Chicago's bullpen down the stretch but will head to Triple-A Charlotte for now.

  • Austin Voth RP | TOR

Orioles' Austin Voth: Accepts outright assignment

Voth cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Steve Melewski of MASNSports.com reports.

Voth is no longer on the Orioles' 40-man roster but has accepted the outright assignment and will join Norfolk's roster as swingman depth. He holds a 5.19 ERA through 34.2 innings in the majors in 2023.

  • Athletics' Francisco Perez: Takes second loss in extras

Perez (1-2) took the extra-inning loss against the Blue Jays on Monday, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits over one-third of an inning.

A day after securing his first major-league victory, Perez fell apart when asked to preserve a 3-3 tie upon entering in the 10th. The left-hander got into immediate trouble by surrendering an RBI double and a run-scoring single to Santiago Espinal and Cavan Biggio, respectively, and he was ultimately charged with an additional run after exiting. The stumble snapped the 26-year-old's season-high three-appearance scoreless streak and pushed his ERA back up to an ugly 6.75 across 10.2 innings.
