    Ryan Pressly sent home ill

Twins reliever Ryan Pressly can't catch a break, MLB.com reports Wednesday. Pressly left the first game of a doubleheader Sunday at Washington with a shoulder injury and missed Tuesday's game, too.

Pressly was ready to return from the shoulder Wednesday, but wasn't available for the game due to an illness.

"He came in and the doctors sent him home," manager Ron Gardenhire said. "He's sick. Arm-wise, he feels good. But his arm is not going to help us today."

  • Jesse Chavez RP | ATL

    Jesse Chavez has pectoral injury

Athletics reliever Jesse Chavez has been dealing with a minor pectoral injury, the San Francisco Chronicle reports Wednesday before a game against the Yankees. Chavez is day to day.

The 29-year-old reliever has a 2.57 ERA over 14 innings and nine appearances. He last pitched June 5 at Milwaukee.

    White Sox alter weekend rotation

The White Sox announced their rotation plans after Wednesday's rainout against the Blue Jays.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the White Sox's rotation plans for the weekend series against the Astros work out as follows: Chris Sale will pitch Friday, John Danks follows Saturday, with Hector Santiago taking the mound Sunday and Jose Quintana to close the series Monday.

Sale was originally set to pitch Wednesday before the game was postponed.

Blue Jays push rotation back due to rain

The Blue Jays will move their starters back one day each, following Wednesday's rainout, according to manager John Gibbons.

Esmil Rogers will pitch Thursday against the Rangers, with Mark Buehrle, Josh Johnson and R.A. Dickey being moved a day back each in the Rangers series. Chien-Ming Wang will make his second start against Colorado Monday to open that series.

  • Rubby De La Rosa candidate down line

Red Sox manager John Farrell said Tuesday that hurler Rubby De La Rosa has put himself in position to possibly make a start during next week's doubleheader against the Rays, WEEI.com reports.

De La Rosa will not start Wednesday for the Red Sox as Alfredo Aceves has been given the nod for that outing by Farrell.

  • Red Sox name starter candidates for Wednesday

Red Sox right-handers Rubby De La Rosa, Allen Webster and Alfredo Aceves are candidates to start Wednesday's game at Tampa Bay, manager John Farrell told SiriusXM, according to The Springfield Republican. Franklin Morales was originally expected to start, but he worked two innings of relief in Monday's extra-innings game.

Wednesday's opening figures to be a spot start with Clay Buchholz working his way back from a neck injury.

  • Fernando Rodney gives up pair of runs

Rays closer Fernando Rodney pitched 1 2/3 innings on Monday night in a game that went into extra innings.

Rodney didn't factor into the decision despite giving up a two-run single to Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the top of the 10th inning. The Rays tied the score in the bottom of the 10th.

Rodney gave up two runs on the one hit and two walks with three strikeouts. He threw 33 pitches and his ERA is at 4.94 on the year.

Ryan Pressly's tests come back negative

Twins reliever Ryan Pressly, who left the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Nationals with right triceps soreness, said he underwent tests on his shoulder and elbow, but "everything checked out fine," according to The Star Tribune.

"I'll probably come in [Monday] and throw a little bit, see if there's any discomfort," he said.

  • Matt Moore RP | BOS

Matt Moore has back-to-back poor outings

Rays starter Matt Moore, coming off his first loss in a poor outing his last time out, didn't show much improvement, if any, Sunday at home against Baltimore. In fact, between his only two innings in his last outing and his first two Sunday, Moore had allowed 11 runs on 13 hits.

After allowing eight earned runs over his first three innings Sunday, Moore settled down somewhat. In the end, he gave up nine runs -- eight earned -- on 12 hits and a walk over five innings and 100 pitches. He struck out six batters and surrendered a solo homer to Adam Jones in the fourth.

Moore took the loss to fall to 8-2 on the season with a 3.78 ERA. His ERA was 2.18 just two outings ago. The 23-year-old Tampa Bay starter is definitely struggling as much as he has on the year right now. He'll look to turn it around when he next takes the mound for manager Joe Maddon on Friday against Kansas City.

  • Hector Santiago wins for White Sox

White Sox starter Hector Santiago pitched well Sunday at home against the Athletics as he earned himself a win. Santiago improved to 2-4 on the season with the victory.

The starter threw 107 pitches over 6 1/3 innings as he gave up just two runs -- one earned -- on four hits and three walks. He struck out six batters and surrendered a solo homer to Coco Crisp in the third inning.

Santiago returned to the rotation after he'd been pitching out of the bullpen. He is expected to remain in the rotation going forward and will make his next start Saturday at Houston.
