  • Tony Zych RP | NYY

Mariners' Tony Zych: Bullpen session on tap

Zych (shoulder) could be ready to throw a bullpen session within one week, Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Zych still needs everything to go as planned, but it's a step in the right direction for the young right-hander. Once ready, look for Zych to be used in middle relief.

  • Ryan Webb RP | SF

Rays' Ryan Webb: Pectoral injury traces back several days

Webb's pectoral injury, which has landed him on the disabled list, traces back to a May 26 outing versus the Marlins, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The veteran reliever was on the hill for a second consecutive game on May 26 when he apparently suffered the injury, according to manager Kevin Cash. Webb was touched up for three hits and an earned run in less than inning in that outing, the first time he'd given up a run since May 3. With the soreness persisting for multiple days, the team opted to give the 30-year-old some time to heal. "He just hasn't quite kicked it," Cash said. "We don't think it's ... too big of a deal. We just want to be cautious."

  • Tommy Kahnle RP | BOS

White Sox's Tommy Kahnle: Optioned to Triple-A Charlotte

Kahnle was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Kahnle has allowed just one earned run in four appearances with the White Sox this season, but he was sent down Monday to open up a roster spot for outfielder J.B. Shuck. Kahnle has already had two stints with the big club this season, so he will garner consideration next time the White Sox need to bring up a reliever.

  • Alex Colome RP | CHW

Rays' Alex Colome: May hold the closer job a little longer

Brad Boxberger will be activated from the DL on Monday, but will be eased back to the closer role. Thus, Colome could hang on to the job just a little longer.

Colome has done great in the role, saving 12 games while posting a 1.23 ERA and 0.773 WHIP over 22 innings with a 29:4 K:BB ratio. Even when Boxberger ultimately reclaims the role, Colome could have value, as Boxberger struggled with his control last season.

  • Brad Boxberger RP | CHC

Rays' Brad Boxberger: Will be activated Monday

Boxberger (abdomen) will be activated from the disabled list Monday, freelance Rays writer Roger Mooney reports.

Boxberger made his final rehab appearance Friday at Triple-A Durham and came out of it feeling fine, so the 28-year-old will now be cleared to rejoin the Rays' active roster for the first time this season. While he saved 41 games for the Rays in 2015, Boxberger doesn't have much tenure as the team's closer and manager Kevin Cash indicated Boxberger would be eased back into closing. As a result, Alex Colome may end up sticking as the Rays' ninth-inning man at least a little longer after logging a 1.23 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 22 innings.

  • Ryan Webb RP | SF

Rays' Ryan Webb: Placed on DL with pectoral strain

Webb was placed on the DL on Sunday due to a right pectoral strain, freelance Rays writer Roger Mooney reports.

The 30-year-old hasn't appeared in the last three games, but the Rays provided no indication he was dealing with an injury. With Webb heading to the DL, Brad Boxberger (abdomen) will be activated Monday in a corresponding move.

  • White Sox's David Robertson: Allows six runs in non-save situation against Royals

Robertson allowed six runs on four hits and two walks against the Royals on Saturday.

This should have just been a "get work" outing for Robertson, as he entered the game in the ninth inning despite his team already up a half-dozen runs. That lead disappeared quickly under Robertson, who has just four saves in May after accumulating eight in April. The disparity has more to do with the White Sox's failure to take many leads this month, and Robertson should still be counted on to pick up good save and strikeout numbers if his usage picks up.

  • Aaron Loup RP | LAA

Blue Jays' Aaron Loup: Gets Jays out of jam in season debut

In his first appearance for the Jays since Oct. 4, Loup (elbow) struck out the only two batters he faced Saturday against the Red Sox.

After his activation prior to Saturday's game, nobody could be more happy to see Loup back in action than Jays manager John Gibbons, who has had to bear the brunt of a crumbling bullpen in the early going. Gibbons called on Loup with two runners on and only one out in the seventh, and the left-hander delivered. Moving forward, Loup should be a valuable source of holds as a left-handed specialist.

  • Tigers' Warwick Saupold: Melts down against As

Saupold retired just one of the six batters he faced in the sixth inning of Saturday's loss to Oakland, allowing three singles and a pair of doubles.

Saupold hadn't allowed a run in four-plus innings of work on the season, but the wheels came off quick Saturday. His line was more than ugly -- try five hits, five runs, no walks or strikeouts in 0.1 IP. He entered the game with it knotted at threes and left down 8-3.

  • Zach Neal RP | ATH

Athletics' Zach Neal: Will not start Tuesday

Neal will not make his scheduled start Tuesday after throwing an inning in relief Saturday, John Hickey of the Bay Area News Group reports.

The A's held a comfortable lead Saturday when Neal entered the game, but manager Bob Melvin still decided to use him in relief anyway. It remains to be seen who will start in Neal's place Tuesday, but Chris Smith is lined up to start that day for Triple-A Nashville, making him the favorite to get the assignment.
