  • Michael Tonkin RP | MIN

Twins' Michael Tonkin: Improves from 2015

Tonkin pitched 1.2 innings in Tuesday's victory over the Marlins, retiring each of the five batters he faced.

Although his ERA has risen to 3.10 after being in the realm of 2.00 for the first month and a half of the 2016 campaign, Tonkin has made strides to improve his game, particularly in terms of pitch control. After walking seven batters in his first 12 innings of action, Tonkin has walked only two in his last 17 frames. His strikeout rate has also improved from 2015's mark of 19 percent to 28 percent.

  • Trevor May RP | ATH

Twins' Trevor May: Hasn't been available due to soreness

May has not pitched since June 1 and wasn't available in Tuesday's game. "[May] has been a little sore, so we've been trying to protect him. I''m hopeful he's back and ready to go to work tomorrow," manager Paul Molitor told the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

May had been showing some signs of improvement recently after a terrible month of May (8.74 ERA) by allowing one run in four innings over his last five games with a 8:1 K:BB. Hopefully his soreness isn't the result of a significant injury.

  • Red Sox's Craig Kimbrel: Nabs 14th save in extras against Giants

Kimbrel picked up his 14th save as he worked around a hit to record a scoreless 10th inning in Tuesday's win over the Giants.

The hit was just the 12th Kimbrel has allowed in 23.1 innings, but it didn't matter a bit as the Red Sox closer has bounced back from his last blown save to record three straight scoreless outings. Kimbrel's current 2.70 ERA would be the worst of his career, but his 0.87 WHIP would be his best mark since 2012.

  • Matt Moore RP | BOS

Rays' Matt Moore: Gives up five runs in no-decision against Diamondbacks

Moore (2-4) allowed five runs on seven hits and a walk with three strikeouts in a loss Tuesday to the Diamondbacks.

Moore still can't figure out how to keep the ball in the yard. He was touched up for home runs by Jake Lamb and Paul Goldschmidt on Tuesday to raise his total to 14 allowed on the season. Only Max Scherzer (16) has given up more home runs than Moore this season. Moore has never allowed more than 18 home runs in a season, and rediscovering that ability to keep the ball on the ground and out of the seats will be the only way for him to bring his 5.56 ERA down to earth.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Allows five runs in loss to Brewers

Manaea (2-4) gave up five runs on six hits and two walks and struck out six over seven innings in a loss Tuesday against Milwaukee.

Manaea got touched up for a pair of home runs, which continues to be a huge issue for the rookie. He has now surrendered seven in his first eight starts, resulting in a 1.2 HR/9. Missing bats hasn't been a problem -- he induced 16 whiffs against Milwaukee on Tuesday -- but he just hasn't shown the command to get through entire games without making those big mistakes just yet. His ERA is up to 6.20, and he'll have to keep the ball in the yard to start bringing that down.

  • Zach Putnam RP | BOS

White Sox's Zach Putnam: Dealing with elbow soreness

Putnam was unavailable for Tuesday's game due to elbow soreness, MLB.com's Scott Merkin reports.

Apparently he has been unavailable for a few games, but the injury is just now coming to light. Putnam, who last pitched on June 1, appears to be day-to-day for now, but his status will be updated if a longer absence is expected.

  • Joe Kelly RP | LAD

Red Sox's Joe Kelly: Leaves Triple-A start with groin injury

Kelly left Tuesday's game for Triple-A Pawtucket with a right groin injury, the Providence Journal's Bill Koch reports.

Kelly has been working on some mechanical adjustments with the Red Sox Triple-A affiliate, but may be sidelined for a spell after suffering a groin injury Tuesday. The Red Sox are waiting for a fifth starter to emerge as the season goes on, with Kelly hoping to be that guy if he could make some tweaks in the minors. His status will be updated when more details about the injury are released.

  • Tony Zych RP | NYY

Mariners' Tony Zych: Suffers setback in recovery

Zych (shoulder) suffered a setback last week, Greg Johns of MLB.com reports.

His timetable had been pushed back once already, and Zych is now without any sort of clear timetable following the setback. He was forced to shut down his throwing program, just as he was about to start throwing bullpen sessions, but is expected to pick up a baseball later in the week.

  • Carson Smith RP | BOS

Red Sox's Carson Smith: Placed on 60-day DL

Smith (forearm) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Tuesday.

The move was essentially a formality, as Smith has already been ruled out for the remainder of the season -- and likely the start of the 2017 season -- after undergoing Tommy John surgery. The transaction clears up a space on Boston's 40-man roster, but there has yet to be a corresponding move.

  • Austin Adams RP | WAS

Indians' Austin Adams: Sent down Tuesday

Adams was sent down to the minors Tuesday, Nick Camino of WTAM reports.

Adams has proven to be a solid option in Cleveland's bullpen, working to a 2.35 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 7.2 innings, but the club needed to clear room on the major league roster to make way for Tuesday's starter Cody Anderson. The reliever will head back to Triple-A Columbus, but he'll likely get another chance in the majors at some point this season.
