  • Chad Green RP | TOR

Yankees' Chad Green: Finalist in continuing No. 5 battle

Green is lined up to start for Double-A Trenton on April 6 and April 11 as the Yankees continue deciding on their No. 5 starting pitcher, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander has a 1.50 ERA in 12 spring innings but hasn't flashed as much success below the surface with eight strikeouts and six walks. Either way, Green will continue to make his case as he duels with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre occupants Luis Cessa and Jordan Montgomery. The latter will stay on the same schedule as Green.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | CHC

Red Sox's Drew Pomeranz: Placed on DL with flexor strain

The Red Sox have placed Pomeranz on the 10-day DL with a left forearm flexor strain, Evan Drellich of CSN New England reports.

Earlier this spring, Pomeranz was experiencing triceps tightness, so it's interesting that he's sidelined with an issue in a different part of his arm, but the belief is that the Red Sox are simply using the DL to shelve Pomeranz temporarily while carrying an extra reliever or bench player. With the league-wide change to a 10-day DL, Pomeranz is still an option to start April 9 against Detroit, the first time Boston needs a fifth starter. If Pomeranz isn't ready to take the ball by that time, Kyle Kendrick is the most likely candidate to slot into the rotation in his place.

  • Adam Kolarek RP | LAA

Rays' Adam Kolarek: Inks minors pact

Kolarek signed a minor-league contract with the Rays on Thursday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The left-hander tried catching on with the Braves organization but winds up with Tampa Bay's instead as a depth piece. Kolarek, 28, hasn't yet seen the majors and holds a career 3.50 minors ERA.

  • Austin Pruitt RP | TEX

Rays' Austin Pruitt: Makes Opening Day roster

Pruitt has made the Opening Day roster for Tampa Bay, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Pruitt, after beating out relievers Jaime Schultz and Chase Whitley for roster spots, will serve in middle relief. The 27-year-old right-hander was impressive this spring, striking out 18 batters over 16.2 innings.

  • Tyler Duffey RP | KC

Twins' Tyler Duffey: Will start season in long relief

Duffey will open the season in long relief, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Duffey had been competing to serve as the fifth starter, but lost that race to Adalberto Mejia. Now set to serve in long relief for a sub-par squad, his fantasy value will be greatly diminished until he gets another chance to crack the rotation.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | CHC

Red Sox's Drew Pomeranz: Takes step back Wednesday

Pomeranz allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four over four innings Wednesday against the Twins, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.

Pomeranz had been expected to throw five innings Wednesday, but four was all he could fit over 76 pitches. After locking in his mechanics during his previous start, Pomeranz found himself rushing his delivery Wednesday. He'll remain in Fort Myers (Fla.) and throw in a minor-league game next Monday, an event manager John Farrell described as "important for Drew." It sounds like the manager wants to see some improvement next Monday and won't "rubber-stamp" him as the fifth starter next week.

  • Dylan Covey RP | ATL

White Sox's Dylan Covey: Pitches one inning Wednesday

Covey gave up a two-run home run in his only scheduled inning Wednesday.

Covey is expected to make the roster and is still in the mix to fill in for starter Carlos Rodon, who will miss at least one start due to a biceps injury. Anthony Swarzak, who allowed a run in two innings Wednesday, is the other candidate to start for Rodon.

  • Dominic Leone RP | CHW

Blue Jays' Dominic Leone: Sent to minors camp

Leone was optioned to minor-league camp Wednesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Leone put together a nice spring as he was vying for a spot in the Blue Jays' bullpen, posting a 3.09 ERA with a 15:4 K:BB across 11.2 innings. The 25-year-old has struggled since he enjoyed success as a rookie with the Mariners in 2014. Leone will head to Triple-A Buffalo and try to work himself into a middle-relief role.

  • Bo Schultz RP | PIT

Blue Jays' Bo Schultz: Undergoes Tommy John surgery

Schultz (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery Wednesday and will miss the entire 2017 season, John Lott of The Athletic Toronto reports.

Early indications were that Schultz was just undergoing surgery to remove bone chips from his throwing elbow, but the right-hander opted to go with the Tommy John procedure after ligament damage was detected. With Schultz facing a 12-to-18 month timeline for his recovery, he'll end up having missed much of the past two seasons due to injury, after hip surgery last offseason sidelined him until late June. Given the health questions surrounding Schultz along with the fact that he'll be 32 years old when next spring rolls around, it wouldn't be surprised if he was non-tendered next fall.

  • Robby Scott RP | BOS

Red Sox's Robby Scott: Wins roster spot

Red Sox manager John Farrell confirmed that Scott earned a spot on the Opening Day roster, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.

With Tyler Thornburg dealing with a shoulder impingement and set to open the season on the DL, Scott will take his place in the bullpen, giving Farrell three lefty relievers to choose from in any given game. In his first exposure of the big leagues last season, Scott tossed six scoreless innings, conceding six hits and two walks while striking out five batters. He'll be slated for lower-leverage work initially, but could move up the pecking order in the bullpen if his performance warrants it.
