  • Tony Zych RP | NYY

Mariners' Tony Zych: Nabs win in extras Tuesday

Zych (5-2) gave up an earned run on two hits and a walk over two innings in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Red Sox. He struck out three.

Zych had surrendered the go-ahead run on a single by Sandy Leon on the top half of the 13th, but he walked away with his fifth victory of the season thanks to the Mariners' heroics in the home half of the frame. The 26-year-old saw his nine-appearance scoreless streak snapped with that stumble, but he continues to serve as one of the most effective relief options of either handedness on the Mariners.

  • Austin Pruitt RP | TEX

Rays' Austin Pruitt: Could be called up for Friday start

Pruitt could be a candidate to make a spot start Friday against the Yankees in place of the injured Jake Odorizzi (back), Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

Perhaps in anticipation of Odorizzi's surprise placement on the disabled list Wednesday, the Rays scratched Pruitt from his scheduled start with Triple-A Durham a night earlier. While Pruitt lacks the upside of the Rays' top pitching prospect, Brent Honeywell -- who could be a candidate to join the rotation himself if Odorizzi's injury proves to be a long-term concern -- the 27-year-old has been no slouch at Durham this season, accruing a 2.55 ERA and 0.79 WHIP while submitting a 33:2 K:BB over 24.2 innings. However, Pruitt has struggled to carry over that success in his 18 appearances (one start) with Tampa Bay, delivering a 6.25 ERA in 31.2 innings, so he'll probably need to find some success at the big-league level before generating much intrigue in the fantasy realm.

  • Rays' Andrew Kittredge: Rejoins big club

Kittredge was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Wednesday, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

Kittredge was sent back to the minors just two days earlier, but he'll be eligible to rejoin the big club following Jake Odorizzi's (lower back) surprise placement on the disabled list. The Rays aren't expected to carve out a major role in the bullpen for Kittredge, who figures to see most of his appearances as a mop-up man in less competitive contests.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | CHC

Red Sox's Drew Pomeranz: Escapes with no-decision

Pomeranz allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out seven over five innings in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Mariners.

Pomeranz put the Red Sox in an early hole when he served up a three-run home run to Seattle's Guillermo Heredia and left after throwing 105 pitches over five innings. The left-hander had been effective of late, having entered Tuesday's contest with a 4-0 record and 2.13 ERA over his previous seven starts. He's next scheduled to start Monday at home against the Indians.

  • Jesse Chavez RP | ATL

Angels' Jesse Chavez: Hammered by Cleveland on Tuesday

Chavez surrendered seven runs on five hits and four walks over just 2.1 innings but was able to escape with a no-decision in Tuesday's extra-inning loss to Cleveland. he struck out three.

All seven runs scored in a disastrous second inning that featured a grand slam by Bradley Zimmer and a solo shot by Michael Brantley. Chavez has now given up 12 runs and five homers in 13.1 innings over his last three starts, leaving him with a 5.35 ERA and 1.42 WHIP on the year, but his job still seems secure in the Angels' injury-riddled rotation. He'll next take the mound Sunday in Toronto.

  • Michael Fulmer RP | NYY

Tigers' Michael Fulmer: Takes loss despite strong effort Tuesday

Fulmer (10-8) gave up three runs on eight hits over eight innings while striking out six in Tuesday's 3-1 loss to the Royals.

He threw 72 of 108 pitches for strikes, but the Tigers offense wasn't able to give Fulmer any run support. The 24-year-old has now delivered seven quality starts in his last eight outings, but his 3.35 ERA and 1.10 WHIP on the year could be in jeopardy in his next start Monday on the road against the Yankees.

  • Alex Colome RP | CHW

Rays' Alex Colome: Picks up 29th save Tuesday

Colome gave up two hits in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to pick up his 29th save of the season in a 5-4 win over the Orioles.

He's now converted nine straight save chances since the end of June, but his 3.48 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 8:5 K:BB in 10.1 innings over that stretch isn't exactly elite. With the Rays still in the hunt for the AL East title or a wild-card spot, Colome seems unlikely to be dealt, so he could regain his focus once the trade deadline has come and gone.

  • Reynaldo Lopez RP | ATL

White Sox's Reynaldo Lopez: Subject of speculation

Lopez could be the next White Sox prospect called up from Triple-A Charlotte, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

After the White Sox traded reliever Anthony Swarzak to the Brewers on Tuesday, they have an open spot on the roster and pitching staff. Speculation immediately heated up that the right-handed Lopez would follow top prospect Yoan Moncada up to the big-league club. Lopez appears ready after posting a 1.74 ERA with 39 strikeouts and six walks over his last 31 innings, spanning five starts.

  • Ken Giles RP | ATL

Astros' Ken Giles: Works non-save situation

Giles worked around a double to record a scoreless ninth inning and close out Houston's 5-0 win over Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Giles was brought into a non-save situation because he'd thrown just a third of an inning since July 17. The right-handed closer has been called on 14 times in non-save situations and posted a 4.05 ERA, having allowed six runs, nine hits and eight walks over 13.1 innings.

  • Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Earns 12th save of season Tuesday

Chapman recorded a 1-2-3 inning to earn his 12th save of the season Tuesday against the Reds.

Chapman didn't record a strikeout in this one, but he needed just eight pitches to retire the side for his first clean inning since July 8. His 3.38 ERA and 1.43 ERA this season are below expectations for a player of his stature, but he has converted four consecutive save opportunities and should have every opportunity to work himself into form as the Yankees scrap for playoff positioning during the season's second half.
