  • Collin McHugh RP | ATL

Astros' Collin McHugh: Implodes late against White Sox

McHugh (0-1) was tagged for seven runs on nine hits and three walks over 5.1 innings in Wednesday's loss to the White Sox. He struck out five.

He was cruising along with four shutout innings, but the wheels totally came off in the fifth -- Tim Anderson hit a two-run homer off him, then McHugh let the White Sox rally for a couple more runs. Yet he was still allowed to come out and start the sixth, only to get pulled with one out and two on after Anderson doubled another run home; the bullpen made sure his inherited runners came around. This was by far McHugh's worst outing since returning from a season-opening elbow injury that cost him almost four months, and it serves as a reminder of how unsteady he was as a fantasy asset last season. Utilize the 30-year-old righty with caution, particularly with his next start lined up to take place in hitter-friendly Arizona on Monday.

  • Twins' Hector Santiago: Likely needs one more rehab start

Manager Paul Molitor said Santiago (back) will likely need one more rehab start with Triple-A Rochester before rejoining the Twins' rotation, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Wednesday was supposed to be Santiago's final rehab start, but after he allowed six walks in 4.1 innings, it appears the Twins may opt to keep him at Rochester for one final tuneup. If this turns out to be the case, his return to the big-league rotation would be pushed back to Aug. 20 against the Diamondbacks, and recently recalled Dietrich Enns would likely make another start in his place.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Picks up 25th save Wednesday

Diaz walked one and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Wednesday to record his 25th save of the season in a 6-3 win over the A's.

He's now reeled off six straight scoreless appearances, lowering his ERA to 2.90 on the season. Diaz has pitched in three of the last four days, so he may not be available Thursday if the Mariners have a lead to protect in the ninth inning as they begin a four-game set at home against the Angels.

  • Troy Scribner RP | ARI

Angels' Troy Scribner: Sent back to minors

Scribner was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake following Wednesday's game.

Scribner will head back to the minors despite allowing just one run on two hits through five innings in Wednesday's win over the Orioles. While he turned in a respectable sophomore start, it may very well be his last for the Angels for the foreseeable future with Andrew Heaney (elbow) on the cusp of a return from the disabled list. A corresponding move will likely be announced prior to Thursday's game against the Mariners.

  • Michael Fulmer RP | NYY

Tigers' Michael Fulmer: Could rejoin rotation next week

Fulmer (elbow) said he felt good after throwing out to 80 feet Wednesday, Ryan Zuke of MLive.com reports.

This is encouraging news, as Fulmer reported no pain after throwing for the first time since landing on the disabled list at the end of July. While he hasn't seen a doctor yet, manager Brad Ausmus is pleased with his status, saying he believes Fulmer will be ready to rejoin the rotation sometime early next week barring any setbacks. An exact return date should become clearer as the 24-year-old continues to ramp up his throwing.

  • Donnie Hart RP | BAL

Orioles' Donnie Hart: Optioned to minors

Hart was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.

Mark Trumbo (ribs) returned from the 10-day DL in a corresponding move and Hart was the roster casualty as a result. The left-handed reliever has put together some solid numbers since being called up in June, posting a 2.00 ERA while mainly serving as a middle reliever in low-leverage situations. He'll serve as organizational depth for now, but could provide a viable bullpen option if need be.

  • Dillon Tate RP | TOR

Yankees' Dillon Tate: Earns Double-A promotion

Tate was promoted to Double-A Trenton on Tuesday, Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com reports.

The right-hander was one of many prospects the Yankees acquired via trade last summer in an attempt to rebuild their farm system, and he's only seen his stock improve since entering the organization. After delivering disappointing numbers in his two professional seasons with the Rangers, Tate certainly lived up to his high draft pedigree during his seven starts with the Yankees' Florida State League affiliate in Tampa. Over nine starts, Tate compiled a 2.62 ERA and 1.08 WHIP to go with a 46:15 K:BB over 58.1 innings. Tate does still carry some health risk and may not exhibit the requisite command to develop into a quality big-league rotation option, but his live arm will give him a chance to excel out of the bullpen if starting doesn't work out for him.

  • A.J. Puk RP | ARI

Athletics' A.J. Puk: Fans 13 batters in start at Double-A

Puk, 22, struck out 13 batters last Thursday in a start for Double-A Midland.

Since being promoted from High-A Stockton, Puk has amassed a 46:19 K:BB in 35 innings. He has been a tad wilder at this level, though his strikeout stuff clearly remains. The 6-foot-7 southpaw should vie for a rotation slot in 2018.

  • Rays' Brent Honeywell: Dominating of late at Triple-A

Honeywell, 22, has allowed two earned runs or fewer in six-straight starts for Triple-A Durham.

Honeywell's ERA has gone from 4.91 to 3.74 during that span, and he has posted a 45:7 K:BB during those 32.2 innings. Despite not starting the season at this level, Honeywell leads the International League in strikeouts. He remains among the top pitching phenoms in baseball.

  • Rangers' Nick Martinez: Sent back to minors

Martinez was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday, Stefan Stevenson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

After yielding 12 runs over 9.1 innings in a pair of starts last week, Martinez's chances of sticking around in the rotation were never great, but it appeared he might have gained some hope after Andrew Cashner (neck) was scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday against the Mets. It remains unclear if Cashner will require a trip to the disabled list, but even if that's the case, the Rangers seem content to explore other starting options, as Martinez has proven ill suited for a rotation spot. He's run up a 5.38 ERA and 1.37 WHIP over 80.1 innings in the big leagues this season.
