  • Luis Santos RP | TOR

Blue Jays' Luis Santos: Contract purchased from minors

Santos had his contract selected from Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday.

Santos was added to the 40-man roster alongside Rhiner Cruz. On the flip side, Tim Mayza was optioned to the minors and Preston Guilmet was designated for assignment to make room. Across 17 appearances with Buffalo this year, Santos has logged a 2.52 ERA and 36:12 K:BB over 39.1 innings. He will likely serve in low-leverage situations for the Blue Jays while with the team.

  • Chris Martin RP | TEX

Rangers' Chris Martin: Returns to major leagues

Martin was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday.

The Rangers sent Martin packing just Tuesday, but he will return right away as an injury replacement for Tony Barnette (shoulder). Martin has posted a respectable 4.13 ERA in 24 innings with Texas this season, and his FIP is more than a run lower at 3.07. He currently leads the team with 10 holds -- Alex Claudio, Jose Leclerc and Jake Diekman all have nine.

  • Jaime Barria RP | CLE

Angels' Jaime Barria: Scheduled for Thursday's start

Barria is slated to make his next start Thursday against the Mariners in Seattle, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic Los Angeles reports.

Barria had been in line to start Friday's series opener against the Dodgers at home, but he'll instead be pushed up a day in the schedule following Tyler Skaggs' surprise placement on the disabled list with an adductor strain. The Angels will now require a replacement starter Friday, with the newly recalled Deck McGuire looking like the leading candidate to fill the opening if he's not needed out of the bullpen the next two days. The change isn't an ideal one for Barria, as opponents have recorded a .352 wOBA against him on the road compared to a .290 mark at Angel Stadium.

  • J.B. Bukauskas RP | MIL

Astros' J.B. Bukauskas: Making start for short-season club

Bukauskas (undisclosed) will make his second rehab start for short-season Tri-City on Wednesday.

The 21-year-old opened his second professional season at Low-A Quad Cities, making two starts before landing on the 7-day disabled list with the undisclosed injury. He was sidelined for nearly two months before getting back on the mound June 29 for the Astros' Gulf Coast League affiliate, tossing 1.2 innings in that start and giving up two runs on five hits and no walks. Bukauskas will presumably have a longer leash in Wednesday's outing and could move back to Quad Cities for his subsequent start.

  • Matt Andriese RP | MIA

Rays' Matt Andriese: Expected to cover two innings

Rays manager Kevin Cash said he plans on using Andriese, who will start Wednesday against the Marlins, for about two innings before turning the game over to the bullpen, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The Rays were able to get by without Andriese in Tuesday's 9-6 win over the Marlins in 16 innings, during which Tampa Bay used eight relievers. However, because Andriese was called upon for two innings of relief Monday, he'll likely face any even stricter pitch count Wednesday than he normally does when working as an "opener" for games. Cash said that once Andriese departs, Andrew Kittredge and Ryan Weber will cover the bulk of the innings in long relief.

  • Ryan Weber RP | NYY

Rays' Ryan Weber: Contract purchased from minors

Weber had his contract selected from Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.

Weber will join the 40-man roster and provide another arm that can take the mound as a starter or long reliever. Over the course of 16 appearances -- nine starts -- with Triple-A Durham this year, he's logged a 2.23 ERA and 1.25 WHIP across 68.2 innings. In order to make room on the roster, Wilmer Font (lat) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

  • Rays' Andrew Kittredge: Called up from Triple-A

Kittredge was recalled from Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.

Kittredge will add extra depth to the Rays' bullpen while providing the ability to "open" a game for the club should it be required. He's appeared in 13 contests in the big leagues in 2018, posting an unsightly 9.72 ERA and 1.98 WHIP across 16.2 innings.

  • Austin Pruitt RP | TEX

Rays' Austin Pruitt: Optioned to Durham

Pruitt was sent down to Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.

Pruitt will return to the minor-league level after tossing two innings during Tuesday's game. In order to replenish their bullpen, the Rays recalled Andrew Kittredge and Ryan Weber while also placing Vidal Nuno on the DL (hamstring). Look for Pruitt to be back in the majors in the near future.

  • Ryan Yarbrough RP | NYY

Rays' Ryan Yarbrough: Allows two runs in three-inning start

Yarbrough allowed two runs on four hits and one walk across three innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Marlins. He struck out three.

Yarbrough ran into a bit of trouble in the second inning, loading the bases with an intentional walk before opposing pitcher Trevor Richards laced a two-run single to center. He escaped the jam and breezed through the third inning with relative ease, but he didn't come back out for the fourth despite tossing 6.1 innings in his previous outing. Yarbrough's workload remains unpredictable from game to game due to the unconventional nature of the Rays' pitching philosophy. He should be expected to get the ball again during next week's series with the Tigers.

  • Jose Alvarado RP | PHI

Rays' Jose Alvarado: Records two-out save

Alvarado allowed one walk and retired the final two batters of the game to earn his third save of the season Tuesday against the Marlins.

Alvarado came on with two men on and one out, allowing a run to score on a fielder's choice for the first out. He then walked pitcher Dan Straily before getting a groundball out to end the game. The Rays used eight total pitchers in the 16-inning affair, including Sergio Romo, who worked the 10th and 11th innings.
