  • Buck Farmer RP | CIN

Tigers' Buck Farmer: Takes loss Friday

Farmer (3-4) took the loss in Friday's 1-0 decision against the Athletics, allowing an earned run on two hits and a walk over 1.2 innings.

Farmer had zero margin for error when he entered a 0-0 game in the bottom of the 12th inning. He made quick work of things there, but the 13th proved unlucky. Farmer allowed a leadoff walk before retiring the next two hitters. However, the third out was elusive, as he gave up back-to-back singles, with the second one bringing home the winning run. Farmer has a 4.88 ERA this season, but he will likely continue working in long relief for the rebuilding Tigers.

  • Twins' Fernando Rodney: Locks down 23rd save

Rodney struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his 23rd save of the season in a 6-4 win over the Royals.

The veteran closer made quick work of things, throwing eight of 11 pitches for strikes, which was likely a relief (pun very much intended) for the hardy fans who stuck around through nearly two-and-a-half hours worth of rain delays. Rodney's 3.24 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and six blown saves in 29 chances are far from elite, but unless he gets sent to a contender in a post-deadline waiver deal, the 41-year-old should at least be a steady source of saves for the rest of the season.

  • Ryan Borucki RP | SF

Blue Jays' Ryan Borucki: Earns first win against Mariners

Borucki (1-2) gave up one run (zero earned) on four hits while striking out a pair across eight innings in Friday's win over Seattle.

Borucki put together a third straight quality start in as many outings since the All-Star break to earn the first big-league victory in his career. During those three starts -- against Seattle, Minnesota and the White Sox -- he's logged a 0.90 ERA and 0.85 WHIP across 20 innings. Though he's only managed to record nine strikeouts over that span, he's also walked just one batter and has yet to give up a home run in 43 innings of work for Toronto this season. Look for Borucki to take the mound against the Red Sox on Wednesday.

  • White Sox's Hector Santiago: Picks up save

Santiago worked around a walk to pitch a scoreless 10th inning and pick up the save in Friday's 3-2 extra-inning win over the Rays.

The usual suspects in the White Sox's committee of closers -- Jace Fry, Juan MInaya and Luis Avilan -- had already pitched by the time they grabbed a lead in the 10th inning, so Santiago was one of the few fresh arms left to close out the game. This likely isn't a role change for Santiago, who has pitched mostly in middle and long relief this season.

  • Ariel Jurado RP | TEX

Rangers' Ariel Jurado: Earns second straight win

Jurado (2-1) allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings in Friday's 11-3 win over the Orioles.

Jurado allowed baserunners in four of five innings but avoided damage thanks to his sinker, which induced eight groundball outs, including two double plays. The Orioles eventually touched him for two runs in the fifth inning, but by then, the Rangers had built an 8-0 lead and it was just a matter of getting through the inning to qualify for his second straight win. The sinker has been prominent in his last two starts, accounting for 16 groundouts over 11 innings. Jurado's next start comes Wednesday at home against Seattle.

  • Jaime Barria RP | CLE

Angels' Jaime Barria: Surrenders three in no-decision

Barria allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three across five innings Friday against the Indians as he didn't factor into the decision.

Barria exited the tilt with the game tied 3-3 after surrendering all three of his runs in the first two innings. He threw 55 of his 92 pitches for strikes prior to being lifted. Barria has served as a solid starter in 2018, as he owns a 3.84 ERA and 1.22 WHIP with 59 strikeouts through 82 innings (16 appearances). His next outing is lined up for Wednesday against Detroit.

  • Carlos Ramirez RP | CHC

Athletics' Carlos Ramirez: Outrighted to Triple-A

Ramirez cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Nashville on Friday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.

Ramirez was designated for assignment Wednesday when Boog Powell was reinstated from the 60-day disabled list. The 27-year-old generated a respectable 3.24 ERA across 8.1 innings for the Athletics this season, but he also issued nine walks, helping lead to a 1.44 WHIP. He's likely to remain with the Sounds as organizational depth for the remainder of the season.

  • Austin Pruitt RP | TEX

Rays' Austin Pruitt: Banished to minors

Pruitt was optioned to Triple-A Durham following Friday's game against the White Sox, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

Pruitt was bumped off the 25-man roster to make room for the activation of Blake Snell (shoulder) from the disabled list. In 19 games for the Rays in 2018, Pruitt has accrued a 4.97 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 36 strikeouts across 58 innings.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | CHC

Red Sox's Drew Pomeranz: Available out of bullpen

Pomeranz is available out of the bullpen this weekend against the Yankees but remains the likely starter for Tuesday's game in Toronto, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Pomeranz stated that he would be ready to pitch during Friday's game even though he started versus Philadelphia on Tuesday. Though it's unlikely he would be deployed Friday, there's a good chance Pomeranz will be utilized as a reliever Saturday or Sunday if either of Boston's starters (Nathan Eovaldi and David Price) get chased from the game early. If all goes according to plan, Pomeranz will not be used and is fresh for Tuesday's projected start against the Blue Jays.

  • Evan Phillips RP | LAD

Orioles' Evan Phillips: Called up from Norfolk

Phillips was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday.

Phillips was dealt to the Orioles from Atlanta on Tuesday and will join the big-league bullpen following the injury to Jhan Marinez (hamstring). Across four appearances with the Braves, he logged an 8.53 ERA and 1.58 WHIP over 6.1 innings. He will serve in low-leverage spots while with Baltimore.
