  • Liam Hendriks RP | CHC

Athletics' Liam Hendriks: Tosses one inning as opener Friday

Hendriks pitched a single inning Friday night against the Rangers, allowing one walk and striking out one.

Hendriks served as the "opener" for the Athletics once again, as this was the third time he has drawn the start and made a brief appearance in the month of September. He's allowed two earned runs over 3.2 innings in the opener role, and he will have very limited fantasy value as long as he continues to serve in that capacity.

  • Mike Hauschild RP | HOU

Blue Jays' Mike Hauschild: Outrighted to Triple-A

Hauschild cleared waivers and will head to Triple-A Buffalo.

Hauschild was designated for assignment Tuesday, and after failing to draw interest while on the waiver wire, he'll report to the Bisons.

  • Matt Barnes RP | WAS

Red Sox's Matt Barnes: Dealing with hip issue

Barnes has been diagnosed with left hip inflammation and was unavailable for Friday's game against the Astros, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Barnes underwent an MRI on Thursday that confirmed the diagnosis. The injury isn't expect to hold Barnes out for long, and he could return sometime within the next few days. More news on his status will likely surface within the near future when he's closer to playing.

  • Sean Manaea SP | NYM

Athletics' Sean Manaea: Long shot to pitch this season

Manaea (shoulder) is optimistic he'll pitch again this season, but the A's are considering it a long shot, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Manaea began strengthening exercises Monday, but he's still a long way from returning to the lineup. More news on a timetable for his return should surface as he makes strides in his rehab, but despite his optimism it seems safe to assume Manaea won't be back this season.

  • Liam Hendriks RP | CHC

Athletics' Liam Hendriks: To start Friday's game

Hendriks will serve as the "opener" for Friday's game against Texas, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

This marks the third "start" for Hendriks this month, as he previously opened Tuesday's game against the Yankees and Saturday's contest versus Seattle. He only pitched one inning during Tuesday's affair, so don't expect him to last much longer than that. Chris Bassitt will likely take over once Hendriks departs.

  • Williams Jerez RP | BOS

Angels' Williams Jerez: Returns to big leagues

Jerez was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake ahead of Friday's game against the White Sox.

Jerez was sent back to the minors Aug. 28 after struggling out of the bullpen. He's compiled a 6.00 ERA and 1.44 WHIP with eight strikeouts over nine innings with the Angels this season. Jerez figures to handle a low-leverage relief role during the final month of the regular season.

  • Corbin Martin RP | CHC

Astros' Corbin Martin: Strikes out nine over 5.2 frames

Martin whiffed nine over 5.2 shutout frames Thursday in Double-A Corpus Christi's 5-1 win over San Antonio in the second game of their Texas League semifinals series. He conceded only one hit and one walk in the 98-pitch outing.

The nine strikeouts matched a career high for Corbin, who has given up three runs or fewer in 19 of his last 21 outings at Double-A. Over 122 frames between Corpus Christi and High-A Buies Creek this season, Martin has posted a 2.51 ERA and 1.01 WHIP while limiting opposing hitters to a .199 average.

  • Drew Pomeranz RP | CHC

Red Sox's Drew Pomeranz: Ineffective Wednesday

Pomeranz allowed five runs on three hits and two walks in one third of an inning in Wednesday's 9-8 win over the Braves.

Five of the six batters Pomeranz faced reached base safely as the Braves seemingly put the game out of reach before Boston's madcap rally in later innings pulled out the win. For Pomeranz, it was a big step back after a string of encouraging performances and likely eliminates the possibility of the left-hander returning to the starting rotation. At this point, a spot on the postseason roster may be jeopardy. He could make a spot start over the final weeks of the season to give a rotation regular a break, but the bullpen will be his main role for the rest of the season.

  • Edwin Diaz RP | LAD

Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Locks down save No. 53

Diaz pitched a perfect ninth inning with two strikeouts Wednesday to earn the save against the Orioles.

Diaz set down the top of the Baltimore lineup with ease, retiring the first two via strikeout before inducing a flyout to end the game. The 24-year-old has been superb all season, and is now up to 53 saves with a 1.87 ERA and 15.6 K/9.

  • Jaime Barria RP | CLE

Angels' Jaime Barria: Blanks Rangers in win

Barria (10-8) picked up the win in Wednesday's 9-3 victory over the Rangers, allowing two hits and three walks over five scoreless innings while striking out five.

The rookie enjoyed his trip through Texas, blanking both the Rangers and Astros for 11 innings over two road starts. Barria's now won five of his last six decisions, and he'll carry a 3.30 ERA into his next outing Monday back home in a rematch with the Rangers.
