Jose Alvarado RP | PHI
Rays' Jose Alvarado: Picks up eighth save
Alvarado secured his eighth save of the season Wednesday against the Indians, striking out two across a perfect ninth inning.
Alvarado needed just 11 pitches -- eight of which were strikes -- to retire the Indians to secure the win. He's converted both of his save chances in September, racking up six strikeouts across 2.2 scoreless innings over that stretch. Sergio Romo picked up a save in between Alvarado's two conversions as the two continue to share the ninth inning.

Aroldis Chapman RP | BOS
Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Could return next week
Manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Chapman (knee) could rejoin the Yankees "sometime next week," Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.
Chapman threw a side session with no issues Wednesday and is headed back to New York to receive treatment. The flamethrower is expected to throw another side session -- or possibly a simulated game -- in the coming days, and if all goes well he could be cleared to rejoin the Yankees thereafter. Chapman has been out since Aug. 22 with left knee tendinitis.

Ryan Pressly RP | CHC
Astros' Ryan Pressly: Picks up first save
Pressly closed out Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Tigers and picked up his first save of the season.
Neither Roberto Osuna nor Hector Rondon were available, so manager A.J. Hinch went to Pressly, the next best reliever. He hasn't allowed a run over his last 14 appearances, spanning 12.1 innings.

Daniel Mengden RP | KC
Athletics' Daniel Mengden: Set to follow opener Tuesday
Mengden will follow opener Liam Hendriks against the Orioles on Wednesday, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
Mengden will cover the bulk of Wednesday's innings. He's made three long-relief appearances this season, posting a 2.53 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 6:3 K:BB across 10.2 innings. It's unclear if he'll continue to work out of the bullpen down the stretch or if he'll rejoin the rotation at some point.

Hunter Harvey RP | CHC
Orioles' Hunter Harvey: Added to instructional league roster
Harvey (shoulder) is on the Orioles' instructional league roster, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Harvey hasn't pitched since early June after dislocating his shoulder. He suffered a pair of setbacks in August and seemed to be potentially shut down for the season, though now it appears that he'll throw at least a few innings in the fall.

Luis Ortiz RP | NYM
Orioles' Luis Ortiz: Scheduled for first career start Friday
Ortiz will make his first career start Friday against the White Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
Ortiz's first career MLB appearance went poorly Friday against the Rays, as he allowed three runs on three hits and a pair of walks while getting just two outs. In six starts for Triple-A Norfolk, he recorded a solid 3.69 ERA, though he struck out just 15.6 percent of the batters he faced.

Nate Pearson RP | KC
Blue Jays' Nate Pearson: To pitch in AFL
Pearson (forearm) will pitch in the Arizona Fall League, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Pearson has been out since early May after a line drive broke his ulna. The 2017 first-round pick will wind up having pitched just 1.2 innings of minor-league ball this season, but he'll at least get some innings in the instructional league and then the AFL.

Edwin Diaz RP | LAD
Mariners' Edwin Diaz: Allows run, takes loss
Diaz (0-4) was tagged with the loss Tuesday, allowing one run on three hits while striking out one in an inning of work against the Padres.
Manager Scott Servais turned to Diaz in a non-save situation with the score tied at one entering the ninth inning, but Diaz allowed the game-winning run to come around on a couple of singles and a double. Even with Tuesday's slip-up, the 24-year-old has elite ratios (1.95 ERA, 0.79 WHIP) and has a commanding lead league-wide with 54 saves.

Tyler Duffey RP | KC
Twins' Tyler Duffey: Goes two innings in start
Duffey allowed one run on two hits in a no-decision against the Yankees on Tuesday, striking out one and walking zero in two innings.
As anticipated, Duffey went just a couple innings (throwing 29 pitches) in his start and handed off the ball to long reliever Kohl Stewart. This was Duffey's first start of the year and his 15th appearance overall, and he now carries a 8.57 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with a 16:2 K:BB in 21 innings this season. It's likely the 27-year-old will be returning to the bullpen.

Dylan Covey RP | ATL
White Sox's Dylan Covey: Takes 13th loss
Covey (5-13) gave up six runs (five earned) on six hits in a loss to the Royals on Tuesday, recording four strikeouts and three walks in 4.1 innings.
Covey made his first start since heading to the bullpen Aug. 19. The 27-year-old now carries a 5.64 ERA in 24 games (18 starts) and a 76:46 K:BB in 103.2 innings this season. If he remains in the rotation, Covey will take on the Indians in Cleveland in his next start.
