  • Dillon Tate RP | TOR

Orioles' Dillon Tate: Shifts to IL

The Orioles placed Tate (forearm) on the 10-day injured list Thursday.

Tate won't be available out of the Orioles' Opening Day bullpen while he continues to deal with a sore right forearm, an injury he initially picked up when he was struck by a comebacker in an intrasquad game. Once he's deemed healthy, Tate projects to work in middle relief for Baltimore.

  • Hunter Harvey RP | CHC

Orioles' Hunter Harvey: Placed on IL

The Orioles moved Harvey (elbow) to the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

Considered a potential option to close for the Orioles coming out of spring training, Harvey's bid for the job was derailed after he experienced soreness in his right elbow late in summer camp. The setback is a troubling one for a young pitcher with a history of arm injuries, so Harvey is far from a lock to make it back from the IL in the minimum 10 days. Mychal Givens now looks like the clear best option for saves in the Baltimore bullpen with Harvey on the shelf.

  • Michael Fulmer RP | NYY

Tigers' Michael Fulmer: Activated from IL

The Tigers reinstated Fulmer (elbow) from the 45-day injured list Thursday.

The transaction was merely procedural after manager Ron Gardenhire confirmed a day earlier that Fulmer would be a part of the Tigers' Opening Day rotation, operating as a "opener type" in front of a primary pitcher, most likely Tyler Alexander. Fulmer should gradually have his restrictions loosened in his subsequent turns, as the Tigers are just exercising caution with his usage coming off his March 2019 Tommy John surgery.

  • Rafael Montero RP | NYY

Rangers' Rafael Montero: Absent from Opening Day roster

Montero (forearm) isn't listed on the Rangers' Opening Day roster, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

The 29-year-old missed the start of summer camp while tending to a personal matter and has been dealing with forearm soreness since reporting to the team. It's only a matter of time until he's officially move to the injured list. Montero had a 2.48 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 34:5 K:BB over 29 innings for the Rangers last season, but it's unclear when he'll be ready to take the mound in 2020.

  • Taylor Hearn RP | KC

Rangers' Taylor Hearn: Misses roster spot

Hearn won't be a member of the Rangers' Opening Day roster, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

The 25-year-old had hope of beginning the season as the Rangers' top left-handed reliever since Joely Rodriguez (lat) and Brett Martin (illness) have been unavailable, but he'll end up reporting to the team's alternate training site. Hearn has traditionally been a starter in the minors and missed most of 2019 with an elbow injury.

  • Ian Gibaut RP | CIN

Rangers' Ian Gibaut: Nabs roster spot

Gibaut will be included on the Rangers' Opening Day roster, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports.

The 26-year-old re-signed with Texas on a minor-league deal in December, and he was able to earn a roster spot with a strong performance at summer camp. Gibaut appeared in 10 major-league games last season and had a 5.65 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 16:10 K:BB over 14.1 innings.

  • Ryan Weber RP | NYY

Red Sox's Ryan Weber: Sharp to a point Tuesday

Weber allowed four runs on six hits and one walk while striking out six over six innings in Tuesday's exhibition game against the Blue Jays.

Weber looked ready to assume Boston's No. 3 starter spot for five innings before tiring in his final frame. The low-velocity hurler allowed two runs over the first five innings, but Rowdy Tellez took him deep in the sixth. Weber, an offspeed specialist, is expected to start the third game of the season.

  • Michael Fulmer RP | NYY

Tigers' Michael Fulmer: Beginning season as opener

Manager Ron Gardenhire said Wednesday that Fulmer (elbow) will begin the season in an "opener-type" role, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Gardenhire has alluded to the 27-year-old opening the season with a limited workload throughout training camp, so this announcement hardly comes as a surprise. Fulmer should work his way to a traditional starter's workload eventually, but he'll start the season being limited to a few innings. Tyler Alexander is a likely option to fill innings during Fulmer's shorter outings.

  • Nate Pearson RP | KC

Blue Jays' Nate Pearson: Joining big club next week

Pearson will be promoted to the Blue Jays' active roster July 29, Jamie Campbell of Sportsnet reports.

This isn't too surprising, since keeping Pearson down for the first week of the season gives the Blue Jays an additional year of control over the right-hander. Regardless of Pearson's role following his promotion, he figures to pitch a healthy amount of competitive innings during the abbreviated 2020 campaign so he can ideally eclipse 100 innings in 2021.

  • Yankees' Aroldis Chapman: Yet to test negative

General manager Brian Cashman said Chapman (illness) is mostly symptom-free but has continued to test positive for COVID-19, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Chapman tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the month and has been on the injured list ever since. While the lefty has only experienced mild symptoms (fortunately), he has yet to submit the two negative test results required to rejoin the Yankees and is set to miss the start of the season as a result. Chapman likely won't need much ramp-up time once he's cleared, while Zack Britton figures to temporarily fill in as the team's closer in the meantime.
