Thornton (1-0) secured the win over Atlanta on Tuesday, firing a scoreless seventh inning during which he allowed one hit and did not record any walks or strikeouts.

Thornton was called upon to pitch in the seventh and surrendered a double to Cristian Pache after getting two easy outs but was able to get out of the inning with no harm done. The Blue Jays tacked on three runs in the eighth and were able to eventually notch the 5-3 victory, which secured the 27-year-old his first win since September 2019. Thornton has a solid 2.45 ERA over 18.1 innings, but his 1.20 WHIP suggests he's still letting men on too often.

Patino (1-1) allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk while striking out three as he took the loss against the Yankees on Tuesday,

Patino found himself in a quick hole after serving up a solo home run to Aaron Judge in the first inning. He later allowed two men on in the third and one ended up scoring after two passed balls allowed the runners to advance. It's unclear how manager Kevin Cash plans to use the 21-year-old moving forward after he's made two relief appearances and two starts in his first four outings this season. Patino had piggybacked Shane McClanahan in his last two outings but served as an opener Tuesday. If Cash plans to use Patino as an opener again, then he'll line up to face the Mets over the weekend.

Barlow (1-1) allowed a run on a hit, a walk and a hit batsman with two strikeouts in two-thirds of an inning Tuesday in Detroit, sticking him with the loss.

Barlow's lack of control Tuesday led to Detroit getting two runners aboard before Robbie Grossman tagged a walkoff single to stick Barlow with his first loss of the season. The right-hander owns a 2.84 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 25:8 K:BB across 19 innings this season. He's picked up one save, five holds and a blown save while frequently serving in a high-leverage role.

Karinchak notched a hold with 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing one walk and striking out one in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Cubs.

Karinchak got the final out of the seventh inning after Shane Bieber exited the contest. The 25-year-old Karinchak stayed in for the eighth and walked Willson Contreras before retiring the next three batters. Karinchak has a strong 0.55 ERA, 0.43 WHIP and 31:4 K:BB across 16.1 innings. He's picked up three saves and five holds, but he remains stuck in more of a setup role behind Emmanuel Clase, who earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday.

Diekman walked two and struck out one in a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday to record his fourth save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Red Sox.

The southpaw needed 21 pitches (only 10 strikes) to finish off the win, but he was able to escape unscathed. Diekman has been effective in a closer tandem with Lou Trivino, picking up two wins and four holds in addition to his saves with a 2.25 ERA and 23:7 K:BB over 16 innings.

Clase recorded one strikeout and surrendered two singles during a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save during Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Cubs.

The 23-year-old allowed a pair of one-out singles to put the go-ahead run on first base for Chicago, but he induced a game-ending double play to get out of the jam. Clase is 7-for-8 in save opportunities with a 1.17 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 16:3 K:BB through 15.1 innings and should continue operating as Cleveland's primary closer, though James Karinchak (who has three saves of his own) will grab some chances as well.

Valdez (2-1) was charged with the loss and a blown save Tuesday against the Mets after allowing two runs on three hits while recording one strikeout.

With the Orioles clinging to a one-run lead in the ninth, Valdez nearly allowed a leadoff home run to Kevin Pillar that was overturned as a foul ball. Pillar ended up hitting a single, and he came around to score on a single by Dominic Smith, tying the game and charging Valdez with a blown save. The struggles continued for the 36-year-old when Patrick Mazeika stepped up to the plate and brought in the winning run on a walkoff fielder's choice, handing Valdez and the Orioles a tough loss. It was the third blown save in 11 tries for Valdez, who had converted three saves in a row leading up to Tuesday's loss. On the season, the right-hander has compiled a 2.40 ERA and 1.13 WHIP.

Manager Aaron Boone said Chapman is "fine" after pitching through a fingernail issue during Tuesday's win over the Rays, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports. The left-hander recorded the save by delivering a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout and one walk.

The 33-year-old notched his eighth save of the season despite the fingernail issue cropping up, and he has yet to blow a save opportunity this season. Chapman's availability going forward shouldn't be in doubt, but it's worth keeping an eye on his status the next couple days. He has yet to allow a run with a 30:5 K:BB through 14 innings.

Fleming will work as the primary pitcher behind opener Luis Patino against the Yankees on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The 24-year-old will work as a bulk pitcher for a second straight outing after giving up three runs over five innings while picking up the win Thursday. Overall Fleming has a 2.81 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 15:10 K:BB over 25.2 innings this season.

Patino will start and is expected to cover a few innings as an opener Tuesday against the Yankees, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

It appeared the 21-year-old would receive a look as a traditional starter Tuesday, but he'll instead be followed by Josh Fleming as the primary pitcher. Patino maxed out at three innings and 56 pitches during his last outing May 4 and could have a similar workload versus New York.
