Bednar worked a perfect ninth inning Saturday without striking out a batter to record his 24th save of the season in a 5-3 win over the Red Sox.

The right-hander collected his seventh save in 10 attempts since joining the Yankees, needing only seven pitches (five strikes) to get the job done. Bednar has been scored upon only twice in his last 15 appearances in pinstripes, posting a 1.59 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 25:6 K:BB in 17 innings over that stretch.

The Red Sox pulled Hendriks (hip) off his throwing program Saturday after he experienced tightness in his forearm, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

A hip injury sent Hendriks to the injured list in late May, and now that he's been shut down from throwing, he'll almost certainly remain sidelined for the rest of the year. The 36-year-old righty will finish 2025 with a 6.59 ERA and 1.39 WHIP through 13.2 innings.

The Rays optioned Orze to Triple-A Durham on Saturday, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.

Orze pitched two innings over two appearances after being recalled from Triple-A on Thursday, giving up two runs on five hits and four walks while striking out two batters. He'll now be sent back to the minors while Tampa Bay brings in a fresh arm in the form of Garrett Acton.

The Rays selected Acton's contract from Triple-A Durham on Saturday, Ryan Bass of FanDuel Sports Network Sun reports.

Acton has spent the entire season at Durham, where he owns a 3.64 ERA and 1.11 WHIP to go with a 67:24 K:BB through 54.1 innings. He'll now join an MLB bullpen for the first time since 2023 as a replacement for Eric Orze, who was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Murray didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 11-3 rout of Atlanta, allowing one hit over three scoreless innings. He struck out one without walking a batter.

Making just his third big-league appearance, Murray faced one batter over the minimum as the opener while tossing an efficient 32 of 40 pitches for strikes. The Astros currently have only four healthy starting pitchers and seemingly no help coming from either Triple-A or the injured list, so they could be turning to their well-stocked bullpen every fifth turn through the rotation, with Murray likely to be part of that equation. The 28-year-old righty hasn't given up a run in his first 5.1 MLB innings, and Friday's third-inning single by Marcell Ozuna was the first baserunner he'd allowed.

Smith (shoulder) struck out two and allowed one earned run on one hit and one walk over one inning Wednesday in a relief appearance for Triple-A Toledo after being activated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Smith had been on the shelf at Toledo since the All-Star break due to a right shoulder strain before rejoining the Triple-A bullpen upon completing a six-appearance rehab assignment between the Florida State and Midwest Leagues. The 25-year-old righty possesses a spot on the Tigers' 40-man roster and could be a candidate for a promotion in the final two weeks of the season if Detroit has a need for another bullpen arm.

Hurter (back) has allowed four earned runs on five hits and no walks while striking out two batters over 3.2 innings in three appearances for Triple-A Toledo since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list Sept. 6.

Hurter missed a little under two weeks due to the back issue, so he didn't require a rehab assignment at a lower-level affiliate before he made his return to the Toledo bullpen. The Tigers demoted Hurter to Triple-A on Aug. 17 in what appeared to mostly be a roster-management decision, as the southpaw had turned in a 2.45 ERA with 62 punchouts over 58.2 innings with the big club on the season. However, with Hurter having since picked up the back injury and not yet pitching effectively for Toledo since his return from the IL, the Tigers haven't been motivated to call him back up.

Bednar struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning to collect his 23rd save of the season Friday against the Red Sox.

Bednar had a three-run lead to work with when he entered in the ninth inning, but the 30-year-old reliever didn't give up an inch en route to tallying his sixth save in a Yankees uniform. After collecting a save in each of his last three appearances, it appears Bednar has emerged as the preferred ninth-inning option for manager Aaron Boone down the stretch.

Munoz struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Friday's 2-1 win over the Angels.

Munoz got the job done on a tidy 12 pitches (eight strikes). After the Mariners' skid in early September, Munoz has successfully shaken off the rust by logging four scoreless innings and three saves over the last five days. That heavy workload could leave him unavailable for a save opportunity Saturday. Munoz is now 35-for-42 in save chances this season while adding a 1.57 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 75:25 K:BB over 57.1 innings as one of the steadiest relievers in the majors.

Newcomb struck out three in a perfect inning to earn the save in Friday's 3-0 win over the Reds.

This was Newcomb's second save of the season -- his other came against the Angels on Aug. 16. The Athletics are using a closing committee to finish off games since the trade deadline, and they've tallied just 31 saves overall this year, with 20 of those coming from Mason Miller prior to the deal that sent him to San Diego. Newcomb and Hogan Harris have the last four saves for the team between them, though volume will remain an issue. On the season, Newcomb has a 2.76 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 91:31 K:BB over 91.1 innings across 47 outings (five starts) between the Athletics and the Red Sox.
