  • Joe Kelly RP | LAD

White Sox's Joe Kelly: Bullpen session on tap

Kelly (hamstring) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Thursday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

It will be the right-hander's first bullpen session since landing on the injured list two weeks ago with a strained left hamstring. Kelly expects to require two bullpen sessions and potentially one rehab outing before rejoining the active roster.

  • Will Vest RP | DET

Tigers' Will Vest: Earns first 2022 win

Vest (1-1) pitched a scoreless inning of relief with a strikeout and earned the win Wednesday against the Pirates.

Vest earned his first win of the year and just the second of his MLB career, as he typically works the middle innings and doesn't factor into the decision too often. Even without wins, the righty has been effective for the Tigers with a 1.80 ERA, 0.60 WHIP and 26 strikeouts across 20 innings this year.

  • Gregory Soto RP | PIT

Tigers' Gregory Soto: Records another save

Soto worked around a hit and a walk to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and earn the save Wednesday against the Pirates.

Soto earned his second save in as many days, but the lefty made this one a bit more difficult after registering a 1-2-3 inning Tuesday. He started strongly Wednesday by recording two quick outs, got into some trouble with a walk and a single, then finished the game with a strikeout. Soto sometimes makes things interesting, though he's been quite effective overall with a 1.71 ERA and 12 saves in 13 chances. He looks to have a fairly firm grip on the closer role in Detroit at this point.

  • Andrew Vasquez RP | DET

Blue Jays' Andrew Vasquez: Nursing ankle sprain

Vasquez was diagnosed with a sprained right ankle after exiting Wednesday's loss to the Royals, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Vasquez suffered the injury while attempting to cover first base, as he rolled his ankle when contacting the bag. It wouldn't be surprising if the left-hander requires a trip to the injured list, but for now he should be considered day-to-day.

  • Matt Canterino SP | MIN

Twins' Matt Canterino: Placed on injured list

Canterino was placed on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Wichita on Wednesday. He's battling elbow tendinitis, Darren Wolfson of Channel 5 Saint Paul reports.

This is worrisome since a right elbow strain ended his 2021 season in mid-August, but Wolfson reports the team hopes he can return in two weeks. Canterino is one of Minnesota's top pitching prospects and looked impressive with a 1.83 ERA and 50:22 K:BB ratio in 34.1 innings at Double-A.

  • Sam Bachman RP | LAA

Angels' Sam Bachman: Lands on injured list

Bachman was placed on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Rocket City on Wednesday due to inflammation in his bicep, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Bachman exited his May 27 start at Rocket City due to back spasms, and he underwent an MRI that revealed inflammation in his bicep. While the team is optimistic that the right-hander's injury isn't serious, he's expected to be sidelined for a few weeks.

  • Jorge Alcala RP | TOR

Twins' Jorge Alcala: Rehab assignment paused

Alcala's rehab assignment has been paused since he experienced increased tightness in his pitching elbow, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Alcala made his first rehab appearance at Triple-A St. Paul on June 1 and allowed an unearned run on two hits and no walks while striking out one in one inning. Although he's eligible to return from the 60-day IL as early as Friday, he'll require more time after his rehab assignment was paused. A better idea of Alcala's return timetable should come into focus once he's cleared to resume throwing.

  • Cole Sands RP | MIN

Twins' Cole Sands: Poised for another start

Manager Rocco Baldelli said Wednesday that Sands is likely to receive another turn through the starting rotation, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

The 24-year-old has allowed eight runs in 7.2 innings over his past two starts but is set for another turn through Minnesota's rotation since Joe Ryan (illness) and Josh Winder (shoulder) aren't quite ready to return from the injured list. Assuming Sands remains on a five-day pitching schedule, he lines up to take the mound Sunday against Tampa Bay.

  • Andrew Vasquez RP | DET

Blue Jays' Andrew Vasquez: Exits with apparent injury

Vasquez exited Wednesday's game against the Royals in the bottom of the eighth inning with an apparent ankle injury, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.

Velasquez rolled his ankle on first base with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and had to be helped off the field. Prior to the southpaw's departure, he threw five pitches (four strikes) in two-thirds of a perfect inning. It's not yet clear whether his injury will require a trip to the IL.

  • Josh Winder RP | ARI

Twins' Josh Winder: Slated to begin rehab assignment

Winder (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Winder threw a bullpen session Tuesday and felt good afterward, and he's expected to toss two innings in St. Paul on Friday. The right-hander was initially expected to have a minimal stay on the 15-day IL, so it's possible that he rejoins the Twins late this weekend or early next week.
