Coleman (4-1) allowed a hit and struck out one over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the win Sunday over the Tigers.

Coleman got the last out of the seventh inning and became the pitcher of record when Bobby Witt put the Royals ahead in the eighth with an RBI double. Since the start of August, Coleman has functioned as an effective setup man. He's allowed two runs on eight hits and five walks while striking out 16 over 14.2 innings, and he's added five holds and two wins in those 14 appearances. He has a 2.54 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 59:34 K:BB with 13 holds and two blown saves through 56.2 innings overall. The right-hander would likely be a secondary option for saves should Scott Barlow be unavailable at any point.

Stephan (4-4) took the loss in extra innings Sunday versus the Mariners, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits in one inning. He didn't walk a batter or record a strikeout.

Stephan allowed initial runner Eugenio Suarez to score on a J.P. Crawford one-out single. That ended up not making much of a difference, as Cal Raleigh took Stephan deep for a two-run blast one batter later. This ended the 26-year-old right-hander's 7.1-inning scoreless streak. He still has a strong 2.58 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 68:13 K:BB through 52.1 innings while logging two saves, two blown saves and 13 holds in 52 appearances.

Martinez (4-3) allowed three hits and two walks while striking out four in six scoreless innings to earn the win over the Orioles on Sunday.

Martinez's spot in the rotation was in question after Ken Waldichuk was called up recently, but the Athletics chose to expand to a six-man rotation for this past week. Martinez responded with his longest start of the season to earn his second consecutive win while posting his first career quality start. He's been somewhat inconsistent over his first seven major-league starts but has settled down recently, posting a 1.72 ERA in 15.2 innings over his last three appearances. With James Kaprielian moving to the bullpen, Martinez projects to make his next start next weekend against the White Sox.

Sewald allowed an inherited runner to score on one hit in one-third of an inning, taking a blown save in Sunday's 6-3 extra-innings win over the Guardians.

Sewald couldn't prevent a run from scoring on an Oscar Gonzalez single in the eighth inning after Erik Swanson put Amed Rosario aboard. This went down as Sewald's fourth blown save of the year, though he's added 17 saves and six holds while functioning as the Mariners' primary closer for much of the year. The right-hander has a 2.45 ERA, 0.73 WHIP and 62:15 K:BB through 55 innings this season. He hasn't been charged with a run over 4.1 innings in his last five appearances.

Romano allowed two hits and no walks while striking out three in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save during Sunday's win over Pittsburgh.

Romano pitched in a second consecutive game Sunday and gave up a pair of singles to begin the inning, but he struck out the next three batters he faced to preserve the Blue Jays' one-run lead en route to his 30th save of the season. Over eight appearances since Aug. 13, Romano has struck out 11 in 9.1 scoreless innings to earn a win and four saves.

Patino will be called up from Triple-A Durham to start Monday's game against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Patino was optioned to Triple-A on Aug. 19 and gave up nine runs (seven earned) in 9.2 innings over two minor-league appearances following his demotion. However, he made his last start Wednesday and will be pitching on normal rest during Monday's series opener against Boston.

Taylor (elbow) was cleared to resume his rehab assignment at Triple-A Sugar Land on Thursday and has given up two earned runs on two hits and two walks over 1.2 innings in his two appearances.

Taylor was pulled off the assignment for approximately two weeks after dealing with posterior elbow discomfort, but the lefty is in the process of ramping up again. Expect Houston to use most of the 30-day rehab window to evaluate Taylor before activating him from the 60-day injured list later this month.

Sands (elbow) began a rehab assignment at Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday and made his second appearance for the affiliate Sunday, covering 2.2 innings while allowing two earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two.

Sands wasn't quite as sharp Sunday as he was during his first appearance four days earlier, when he gave up one earned run on two hits and no walks over two innings. The right-hander will likely get at least two days to rest up before the Twins decide whether to have him make another rehab outing or make his return from the 15-day injured list. He'll work as a long reliever out of the bullpen whenever he's activated.

Barlow earned the save Sunday, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning of a 5-2 win in Detroit.

Barlow had no trouble with the bottom three hitters in Detroit's lineup Sunday and retired the side in order on 11 pitches. It was his 21st save of the season and first since Aug. 22. The 29-year-old has been used sparingly recently as Sunday's outing was his first appearance in the last five days. For the season, he has a 2.57 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 63:16 K:BB in 63 innings and will continue to close out games for the Royals.

Schreiber earned the save Sunday, striking out two in a perfect ninth inning in a 5-2 win over Texas.

Schreiber ran the count full on two of the three hitters he faced but closed the door on Texas without anyone reaching base. It was his seventh save on the season and third since Aug. 27. Boston may not have a set closer at the moment but Schreiber and his 2.11 ERA and 0.89 WHIP is certainly someone manager Alex Cora trusts in important situations. The 28-year-old will likely continue to get a fair amount of save opportunities over the final month.
