  • Tommy Kahnle RP | BOS

Yankees' Tommy Kahnle: Yet to throw off mound

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Tuesday that Kahnle's (biceps) throwing program is "going well," but the pitcher hasn't thrown off a mound yet, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

The team looks to be taking Kahnle's rehab process slowly, as he just began throwing again Thursday and was shifted to the 60-day injured list Saturday. The 33-year-old reliever received a cortisone injection March 21 to address right bicep tendinitis, and he won't be eligible to return until late May.

  • Lou Trivino RP | PHI

Yankees' Lou Trivino: Close to facing hitters

Trivino (elbow) threw another bullpen session Tuesday and is slated for a "two-up" session Friday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

If that goes well, he'll be cleared for a live batting practice session. Trivino will need a few rehab appearances after missing more than a month with an elbow strain, but he's trending in the right direction.

  • Blake Taylor RP | TEX

Astros' Blake Taylor: Activated, optioned to minors

Taylor (elbow) was activated from the 15-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Taylor did well in Triple-A during his rehab assignment, throwing 3.1 scoreless frames over four appearances. However, he will have to remain in the minors for the time being. If he maintains a high level of play, he could find himself back in Houston's bullpen at some point this season.

  • Yoendrys Gomez RP | MIN

Yankees' Yoendrys Gomez: Out with shoulder injury

Gomez is on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Somerset with a shoulder injury, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.

The 23-year-old righty was seen as a high-upside prospect in the past, but durability has been a major issue, as he has never logged more than 56.1 innings in a season, and that high-water mark was back in 2019. Given that he is already on the Yankees' 40-man roster, it wouldn't be surprising to see Gomez transitioned to a full-time relief role in the next year or two.

  • Blue Jays' Brandon Barriera: Recovering from shoulder issue

Barriera dealt with a shoulder issue this spring and was held back in extended spring training, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.

Per Callis, the Jays are being "super cautious" with Barriera's workload back in Florida before assigning him to a full-season affiliate. The 23rd overall pick last season, Barriera has a very high ceiling and could break out this year if he can get fully healthy. Look for the Jays to keep the training wheels on with their prized lefty this year, likely limiting how deep he goes into games early in the season.

  • Matt Brash RP | SEA

Mariners' Matt Brash: Takes loss Monday

Brash (0-1) was charged with the loss in an extra-innings defeat at the hands of the Cubs on Monday, allowing an unearned run on one hit over one-third of an inning. He struck out one.

Entrusted with preserving a 2-2 tie when he entered in the bottom of the 10th, Brash ran into immediate trouble when inning-opening runner Nick Madrigal stole third base while Tucker Barnhart was at the plate. Although Brash was subsequently able to record the strikeout, Nico Hoerner then snapped the deadlock with a game-winning single to right field. It's been an uneven start to the season for Brash, who's now allowed at least one run in three of seven appearances but has also posted a stellar 12:3 K:BB in just 5.2 innings.

  • Brock Burke RP | CIN

Rangers' Brock Burke: Logs second hold

Burke allowed one run on one hit and struck out one over two innings to earn a hold in Monday's 11-2 win over Kansas City.

Burke allowed a seventh-inning home run to Hunter Dozier, but by that point, the Rangers had given him a 10-run lead, so it was all about throwing strikes and getting the easy win. This was Burke's second hold in four appearances, which have all come in middle relief. He's entered games in the fifth or sixth innings. The left-hander has allowed two runs on six hits while striking out five and walking none over 5.1 innings.

  • Emmanuel Clase RP | CLE

Guardians' Emmanuel Clase: Picks up third save

Clase picked up the save Monday against the Yankees. He allowed zero runs on zero hits and zero walks while striking out two over one inning.

Clase looked sharp in the top of the ninth inning and set the Yankees down in order. He needed only 10 pitches (seven strikes) to secure his third save of the season in four chances and now owns a 4.50 ERA with six strikeouts and four walks over six frames.

  • Reynaldo Lopez RP | ATL

White Sox's Reynaldo Lopez: Tallies second save

Lopez picked up the save in Monday's 4-3 victory over the Twins. He allowed zero runs on zero hits and zero walks while striking out three over 1.1 innings.

Lopez secured his second save of the 2023 campaign without much difficulty. He fanned the final batter of the eighth innings and set the side down in order in the ninth by striking out a pair and inducing a groundout to third base. After allowing three runs over his first 2.1 frames of work, it was a good sign to see the reliever navigate the end of the game with ease Monday afternoon.

  • Nick Pivetta RP | SD

Red Sox's Nick Pivetta: Turns in scoreless outing

Pivetta allowed three hits and two walks over five shutout frames during Monday's loss to the Rays. He struck out six and did not factor in the decision.

Pivetta was locked into a pitcher's duel and was denied his first win due to Boston's lackluster offense. Despite walking just two batters, 30 of his 83 pitches were balls. Pivetta forced 14 whiffs on 37 swings and now has a 12:5 K:BB through 10 innings. He's lined up for a home matchup with the Angels this weekend.
