McCutchen went 2-for-5 with a home run, a walk and three RBI in an extra-inning loss to San Diego on Wednesday.

McCutchen tallied all of his RBI in the middle innings, swatting a solo homer in the fourth frame and adding a two-run single in the sixth. The long ball snapped a 13-game homerless stretch for the veteran outfielder, though he's nonetheless managed to already top last year's home-run total with 14 through 419 plate appearances. McCutchen went deep just 12 times over 473 plate appearances in his return to Pittsburgh last season.

Fry went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a 5-3 loss to the Diamondbacks in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Fry didn't play in the first game, but he started at first base in the second contest. The homer was his second over six games in August after he had just one extra-base hit, a double, in all of July. The 28-year-old has cooled off dramatically since his hot start to the year, but he still has a .275/.375/.447 slash line with 10 homers, 39 RBI, 36 runs scored, four stolen bases and 14 doubles over 89 contests. Fry hasn't been strictly platooned, but he's not an everyday option versus right-handed pitchers.

Calhoun isn't in the Angels' lineup for Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader versus the Yankees.

After going 1-for-2 and drawing two walks during a loss in Game 1, Calhoun will take a seat for the second half of Wednesday's twin bill. His absence will move Logan O'Hoppe into the DH spot while Matt Thaiss starts behind the plate.

Malloy isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

After going 0-for-4 with three strikeouts during Tuesday's series opener, Malloy will get a day to rest Wednesday. His absence will move Colt Keith into the DH role while Zach McKinstry starts at second base and bats seventh.

Jimenez will start at designated hitter and bat seventh in Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.

Jimenez was widely expected to fill the short side platoon of a platoon at DH when the Orioles acquired him from the White Sox on July 30, but the 27-year-old appears to have pushed his way into a near-everyday role, at least while he's swinging a hot bat. He'll be picking up his fourth consecutive start -- including his third in a row against a right-hander (Bowden Francis) -- after going 6-for-12 with a double and two RBI to begin his tenure with the Orioles. Meanwhile, the lefty-hitting Cedric Mullins will head to the bench for the second game in a row.

Blankenhorn is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.

With a lefty (Blake Snell) on the bump for the Giants, the lefty-hitting Blankenhorn will move to the bench after starting in each of the Nationals' previous six games. Harold Ramirez will take over as the Nationals' designated hitter.

Martinez isn't in the Mets' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.

After going 0-for-10 with five strikeouts over his last three games, Martinez will take a seat Wednesday while Jesse Winker serves as New York's DH and Ben Gamel starts in right field.

Stanton is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Angels.

The Yankees likely aren't keen on having superstar Aaron Judge play two full games in the outfield Wednesday, so he'll serve as the designated hitter in the early contest, which leaves no room in the lineup for Stanton. Look for Stanton to serve as the DH in the nightcap while Judge returns to a spot in the outfield.

Alvarez went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run Tuesday against the Rangers.

Alvarez slugged his 21st home run of the season and his first since July 21. His power has dipped significantly from past seasons -- his .230 ISO is 60 points below his mark in 2023 -- which has also significantly cut into his counting stats. While Alvarez remains a strong source of batting average, the rest of his line has suffered.

Fry is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Diamondbacks.

The Guardians are giving Jose Ramirez some time off third base in the first game of the day and deploying him at designated hitter, so Fry will be the odd man out of the Cleveland lineup. Expect Fry to return to the starting nine for the nightcap and take on a prominent spot in the batting order while the Guardians oppose lefty Eduardo Rodriguez.
