  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Wasn't available Tuesday

Manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday after the Dodgers' 5-4 victory over the Diamondbacks that Turner (elbow) wasn't available off the bench, Alanna Rizzo of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

Out of the lineup for a due to residual soreness in his left elbow that stemmed from being hit by a pitch Sunday in Colorado, Turner was expected to be able to contribute in a pinch-hitting role. However, when Roberts instead called upon Russell Martin to bat for reliever Yimi Garcia with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, it became apparent Turner's elbow injury was a little more serious than anticipated. Roberts' confirmation that Turner wasn't available suggests that the veteran may be unlikely to return to the lineup for Wednesday's series finale.

  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Padres' Franmil Reyes: Leaves yard again

Reyes went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Tuesday in the Padres' 10-4 loss to the Giants.

The home run was Reyes' team-leading 25th of the season and his fifth long ball in the last week alone. While the steady power production makes Reyes a solid fantasy option in most mixed leagues, he's merely a neutral asset in terms of batting average (.252) and doesn't contribute as a base stealer.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT

Cardinals' Marcell Ozuna: No timetable for return

Ozuna (fingers) saw a hand specialist Tuesday but remains without a firm timetable for return, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. "It's just a matter with how quickly he can get strength back to where he can sustain it for the remainder of the season," manager Mike Shildt said. "Pretty wide spectrum of the possibility of time, but this week will be important to get his treatment. How it heals this week will be a big factor."

Ozuna suffered multiple finger fractures in his right hand on a pickoff attempt against the Padres on Friday, and as Rogers' report indicates, it's likely going to be some time before he's back at full capacity. Given that power hitting is such a critical component of Ozuna's offensive profile, the regaining of full strength in his fingers will be critical to him sustaining the same level of production he generated prior to the injury.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Expects brief IL stint

Carpenter (back) expects to return from the injured list immediately after the All-Star break July 12, Mark Saxon of The Athletic reports.

Carpenter was bedridden for 40 hours over the weekend due to a stomach issue and then ended up tweaking his back. The back strain doesn't appear overly serious, but the Cardinals decided to play things safe and take advantage of the All-Star break to aid in his recovery. Tommy Edman and Yairo Munoz figure to fill in at third base during his absence.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Nursing sore elbow

Turner had X-rays on his elbow and wrist come back negative after he was hit by a pitch Sunday, Alanna Rizzo of Spectrum SportsNet LA reports.

Turner didn't actually start Sunday but was hit by a pitch in his pinch-hit appearance. The 34-year-old is taking Tuesday to rest up but appears to have avoided a serious injury. Edwin Rios is starting at third base in his absence.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Retreats to bench

Dickerson isn't in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against San Diego, Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Dickerson will head to the bench for the third straight contest with another lefty slated to toe the rubber for the opposition. Tyler Austin will once again man left field and bat third.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Lands on injured list

Carpenter was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a lower-back strain, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

After Carpenter missed his fourth consecutive start Sunday, manager Mike Shildt said the third baseman was dealing with a stomach issue. It turns out it's something more serious, and it will knock Carpenter out at least through the break. The 33-year-old rebounded after a slow start last year but hasn't been able to do that yet in 2019 -- he's batting .216/.325/.381 halfway through the season. Expect Tommy Edman to get a good amount of run in Carpenter's absence.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Remains out Tuesday

Carpenter (illness) isn't starting Tuesday's game against the Mariners.

Carpenter is in line to miss his fifth consecutive matchup, and it was revealed Sunday that he's been battling a stomach bug. He'll continue to be considered day-to-day until further notice. Yairo Munoz will lead off and start at the hot corner in Carpenter's absence.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Sitting again Tuesday

Turner isn't in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Turner will receive another day of rest, as he sat out of Sunday's matchup before a scheduled off day Monday. Edwin Rios draws the start at the hot corner and is batting seventh with Turner out of the mix.

  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Reds' Jesse Winker: Rare day off versus righty

Winker is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Brewers.

Despite going 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Monday's 8-6 loss in the series opener, Winker will find himself on the bench as the Reds oppose a right-handed starter (Chase Anderson). Considering Yasiel Puig received Monday off, manager David Bell may just be looking to keep some of the Reds' bench players involved now that Scooter Gennett's recent return from the injured list leaves one less spot available in the lineup. With Winker sitting Tuesday, Phillip Ervin will check into left field.
