Giants' Brandon Belt: Clutch as pinch hitter

Belt hit a two-run home run in his only at-bat during Sunday's 5-4 win over Milwaukee.

After starting three straight games, Belt was out of the lineup for rest Sunday. He entered as pinch hitter for Jose Alvarez in the seventh inning, and Belt delivered his fourth homer in his last 10 at-bats, which was also a game-tying blast. The 33-year-old recent surge has lifted his slash line to .262/.370/.568 across 216 plate appearances. He's up to 15 homers, 35 RBI, 35 runs scored and three stolen bases in 59 games.

  • Darin Ruf DH | MIL

Giants' Darin Ruf: Pops homer in win

Ruf went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and two walks in Sunday's 5-4 win over Milwaukee.

The 35-year-old put San Francisco ahead with his first-inning solo shot, his 13th homer of the year and his third in his last eight games. Ruf has added 30 RBI, 33 runs scored, nine doubles and a pair of stolen bases while slashing .275/.393/.567 across 206 plate appearances. He's likely to fill a short-side platoon role with Brandon Belt at first base going forward.

  • Justin Turner DH | CHC

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Managing left groin discomfort

Turner exited Sunday's game against the Angels due to left groin discomfort, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Turner appeared to suffer his injury while making a diving play in the top of the second inning, and he was removed in the bottom half of the frame. The 36-year-old is considered day-to-day, and he'll have at least one day to recover since the Dodgers have a scheduled day off Monday.

Dodgers' Justin Turner: Exits with apparent injury

Turner was removed in the bottom of the second inning of Sunday's game against the Angels with an apparent leg injury, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

The Dodgers have yet to provide an update on Turner's condition, but he appeared to hurt himself while making a diving play on a grounder and then throwing out Jose Iglesias for the out in the top half of the second, according to Eric Stephen of SBNation.com. Turner went 0-for-1 with a stolen base and an RBI before Albert Pujols pinch hit for him when his second turn through the order came up in the bottom of the second. Consider Turner day-to-day until manager Dave Roberts offers more information about the third baseman's health.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Cardinals' Matt Carpenter: Produces as pinch hitter

Carpenter knocked a go-ahead RBI double as a pinch hitter in a win over the Royals on Saturday.

The veteran has now hit safely in three straight games, with two of those coming in a pinch-hit capacity. The extra-base hit was also Carpenter's first since July 18, and his season slash line sits at a crooked .200/.328/.325.

  • Alex Dickerson DH | ATL

Giants' Alex Dickerson: Out versus lefty

Dickerson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.

Dickerson started each of the past four games in left field, going a collective 3-for-15 with a home run and two walks. LaMonte Wade will pick up a start in place of the lefty-hitting Dickerson, who will sit with southpaw Brett Anderson on the hill for Milwaukee.

  • Brandon Belt DH | TOR

Giants' Brandon Belt: Idle versus lefty

Belt is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.

Since returning from the injured list Thursday, Belt started in each of the Giants' past three games, going 4-for-12 with three home runs and five RBI. The lefty-hitting Belt should be locked in as a strong-side platoon player the rest of the way, but he'll give way to the right-handed Darin Ruf at first base with the Brewers bringing southpaw Brett Anderson to the hill for the series finale.

  • Darin Ruf DH | MIL

Giants' Darin Ruf: Starting for resting Belt

Ruf will start at first base and bat third Sunday against the Brewers.

Though Ruf will crack the lineup for the series finale, he's lost hold of an everyday role at first base following Brandon Belt's return from the injured list Thursday. The lefty-hitting Belt started each of the past three games, though he'll take a seat Sunday to make room for the righty-hitting Ruf while the Brewers bring southpaw Brett Anderson to the hill.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Phillies' Brad Miller: Goes yard twice against Mets

Miller went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Mets.

He took Tylor Megill deep to lead off the fifth inning for the game's first run, then drove a Yennsy Diaz changeup over the fence in left field in the eighth to cap the scoring for the Phillies. Miller stumbled into a 1-for-19 stretch coming out of the All-Star break but has started to turn things around, going 7-for-28 over his last eight games with three of his 12 homers on the season.

Giants' Brandon Belt: Goes deep twice

Belt went 2-for-5 with a pair of home runs, three RBI and three runs scored Saturday against the Brewers.

Belt went yard off of Brandon Woodruff in the fourth inning and Sal Romano in the 11th, the latter a two-run shot that gave the Giants an 8-5 cushion. The 33-year-old Belt has been scorching the ball since returning from the injured list, going 4-for-12 with three homers, five RBI and a pair of walks in three games. He's now hitting .258/.367/.549 with 13 homers and 33 RBI in 215 plate appearances this season.
