  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Padres' Matt Carpenter: Sitting against lefty

Carpenter isn't starting Friday against the Rockies.

The Rockies will send left-hander Austin Gomber to the mound for the start of Friday's game, so the lefty-hitting Carpenter will take a seat. Brandon Dixon will instead serve as San Diego's designated hitter and bat eighth.

  • Mets' Daniel Vogelbach: Sitting versus lefty

Vogelbach will sit Friday versus Pittsburgh.

Vogelbach will remain on the bench Friday as New York takes on southpaw Rich Hill and the Pirates. Mark Vientos will take over at designated hitter and bat ninth in the series opener.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Mets' Mark Canha: Draws start at first base

Canha is starting at first base and batting seventh Friday versus the Pirates.

Canha will draw his second start of the season at first base Friday, earning the first shot to replace Pete Alonso (wrist) after Alonso was placed on the 10-day injured list. Canha has struggled so far in June, posting a .200 average with a solo homer, two RBI and a stolen base over 15 at-bats in five starts.

  • Marcell Ozuna DH | PIT

Braves' Marcell Ozuna: Clubs 12th homer

Ozuna went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Thursday's 13-10 extra-inning win over the Mets.

Atlanta hitters slugged five homers on the night, with Ozuna's coming in the fifth inning off Stephen Nogosek. The veteran DH continues to produce after turning his season around, and since the beginning of May, Ozuna is slashing .315/.378/.639 with 10 of his 12 homers on the year.

  • Mark Vientos DH | NYM

Mets' Mark Vientos: Playing time opening up

Vientos went 0-for-5 with three strikeouts in Thursday's 13-10 extra-inning loss to Atlanta.

Getting the start at first base and batting ninth, Vientos' rookie struggles continued, and he's now batting .162 (6-for-37) through his first 13 big-league games this season with a 30.8 percent strikeout rate. Pete Alonso (wrist) was placed on the injured list Friday, however, potentially pushing Vientos into a near-everyday role. The 23-year-old was slashing .333/.416/.688 at Triple-A Syracuse prior to his promotion, and while he won't replace Alonso's elite power, Vientos could begin to find some success at the plate with more consistent playing time.

  • Cubs' Christopher Morel: Sitting third straight

Morel isn't in the Cubs' lineup Thursday against the Angels.

Morel's woes at the plate (1-for-25 since May 25) will cause him to miss his third consecutive start as the Cubs search for more production. Miguel Amaya will fill in as Chicago's designated hitter Thursday and bat sixth.

  • Mets' Daniel Vogelbach: Sitting Thursday

Vogelbach isn't in the Mets' lineup Thursday against Atlanta.

Vogelbach is slashing just .077/.143/.154 over the past week and has started to see his playing time diminish as a result. Francisco Alvarez will serve as the Mets' DH in Vogelbach's place, allowing Omar Narvaez to start behind the plate and bat eighth.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Mets' Mark Canha: Day off Thursday

Canha isn't starting Thursday against Atlanta.

After going 0-for-4 during Wednesday's contest, Canha will take a seat for the second time in the Mets' last three games. Tommy Pham will take his place in left field while batting seventh.

  • Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Enjoying productive stretch

Blackmon went 1-for-5 with a double and two RBI on Wednesday against the Giants.

Blackmon tallied a pair of RBI with a double in the second inning. He's taken advantage of a stretch of consecutive home games to tally nine RBI and 10 runs scored across his last 12 contests. Across 231 plate appearances, Blackmon is maintaining a wRC+ above 100 for the first time since 2019.

  • Matt Carpenter DH | STL

Padres' Matt Carpenter: Two hits, steal Wednesday

Carpenter went 2-for-4 with an RBI, a run scored and a steal in Wednesday's 10-3 win over the Mariners.

Carpenter opened the scoring with an RBI single in the second inning before adding a second base hit in the third. It's just the second multi-hit game for Carpenter since the start of May, while the stolen base was his first since the 2021 season. Carpenter started the day in a 4-for-36 (.111) slump over his last 11 contests, though he's still seen regular playing time against right-handed pitching. He's slashing .192/.303/.362 with four homers, 26 RBI and 14 runs scored through 156 plate appearances this year.
