Mets infielder Justin Turner, who started at third base for the injured David Wright (neck), tied a season-high with three hits Monday against the Marlins. Turner, who has accomplished the feat three times this season, finished 3 for 5 with one double and one walk.

Turner is batting .368 (14 for 38) with three doubles and four RBI in 15 games. Turner has made just seven starts through 24 games and Monday was the first time he started at third base.

Marlins outfield prospect Marcell Ozuna was promoted to the majors late Monday night in the wake of Giancarlo Stanton's hamstring injury, despite Ozuna having played in just 14 games this season. Ozuna got off to a late start because he suffered a fractured left hand this spring.

However, Ozuna appeared to be more in tune with his swing than fellow Double-A Jacksonville outfielder Christian Yelich, who is widely regarded as the Marlins' top prospect after Jose Fernandez's early season promotion to the majors. Ozuna was batting .333 (14 for 42) with one triple, three doubles, five home runs and 15 RBI in 10 games for Jacksonville.

Ozuna is considered a top 10 prospect in the Marlins' organization by Baseball America (No. 5) and MLB.com (No. 6). 

"Let him go out there and (hack) away and see what he does," manager Mike Redmond said, per the Sun-Sentinel. "Ozuna is an exciting player. Hopefully he'll come up and provide a spark."

The Marlins announced on Monday that Marcell Ozuna and Brad Hand will be recalled from Triple-A New Orleans. 

The Marlins placed outfielder Giancarlo Stanton on the 15-day disabled list after Monday's contest against the Mets. Stanton suffered a strained right hamstring during the game.

He's scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday.

Marcell Ozuna will be recalled from Triple-A New Orleans to take his spot on the roster.

Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton was diagnosed with a strained right hamstring, the team announced.

Stanton left Monday's series opener against the Mets in the 10th inning after injuring his hamstring while running the bases. He immediately fell to the ground before gingerly walking off the field with the team's trainer.

Stanton went 0 for 5 with two strikeouts prior to leaving the game and there has been no timetable announced for his return.

Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton left Monday's series opener against the Mets in the 10th inning with what appeared to be an injury to his right hamstring. He tried to beat out a swinging bunt but could be seen grabbing the back of his right leg while running to first base.

The 23-year-old fell to the ground but was able to get up and walk off under his own power.

Stanton went 0 for 5 with two strikeouts before the early exit and is batting .227.

Cubs outfield prospect Jorge Soler was benched Sunday for failing to run out two balls during Saturday's game.

Class-A Daytona manager Dave Keller said Soler sat "because within the philosophy and the work ethic that we are trying to create in this organization -- and that we are trying to get our players to understand -- work ethic, energy, determination, playing hard and running hard is part of the whole program."  Soler is expected to return to the team's lineup Monday. 

Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen has returned to the club's lineup Monday against the Brewers.

McCutchen has been scuffling to begin the year, hitting just .216/.286/.375 in 88 at-bats. After starting 24 this year, McCutchen was not in the club's lineup Sunday. He'll face Yovani Gallardo Monday. 

After pulling Matt Carpenter for a pinch hitter in the ninth inning Saturday, Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said Carpenter needs to communicate with him about nicks and bruises, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Carpenter was dealing with some oblique soreness, though downplayed the issue. Matheny saw Carpenter trying to stretch the injury in the on-deck circle, and decided to pull him from the game. Matheny also expressed a desire for Carpenter to be up front with him about minor nicks and bruises, saying he doesn't need to push through anything to keep his roster spot.

Carpenter was able to play Sunday, but did not register a hit. His oblique soreness is not thought to be an issue going forward. 

Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter, who left Saturday's game with an oblique injury, endured a quiet performance Sunday afternoon against the Pirates.

Carpenter went 0 for 4 with a strikeout in a 9-0 defeat. He is hitting .375 with two doubles, five runs scored, a home run and an RBI in his last four games played. He is hitting .273 with three home runs and eight RBI in 88 at-bats.
