  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Back in the lineup

Cabrera (knee) is back in the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.

Cabrera left Sundays' game with a left knee contusion, but it doesn't appear to have been serious as he is back in his usual position at first base and hitting third. The 33-year-old has been outstanding this season, hitting .315/.388/.537 with nine home runs and 26 RBI through 43 games.

  • Indians' Michael Brantley: Will resume hitting Tuesday

Brantley (shoulder) will resume hitting activities Tuesday, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Brantley remains on the 15-day DL with a shoulder injury, but this is a step in the right direction for his recovery. The 29-year-old is hitting .231 and has yet to hit a home run through 11 games this season.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Rays' Brad Miller: Not in Monday's lineup

Miller is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Marlins, Marc Tompkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

With left-hander Wei-Yin Chen starting for the Marlins, Miller will get the night off in favor of Taylor Motter in order to optimize matchups. Miller is hitting .216 with five home runs and 15 RBI this season.

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Knee injury not a major concern

Cabrera (knee) is not expected to be dealing with a long-term ailment, MLB.com's Jason Beck reports.

Cabrera was forced out of Sunday's game early due to what was later revealed as a left knee contusion. According to manager Brad Ausmus, Cabrera "got hit right in the nerve and it sent pain down his leg." This explains Cabrera's need to exit the game, but is also in line with the assertion that this is not a long-term concern. That being said, it wouldn't be too surprising to see Cabrera get a precautionary maintenance day, so his status is worth checking up on prior to Monday's lineup lock.

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Early exit Sunday

Cabrera, who exited Sunday's game early, is day-to-day with a left knee contusion, MLB.com's Jason Beck reports.

It was a tough day for Detroit, as they also lost starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann early due to a groin injury. Fortunately for the Tigers, Cabrera's injury doesn't sound overly serious, but consider him questionable for Monday's series opener against the Phillies. If he has to miss time, Victor Martinez or Andrew Romine could be candidates to pick up the reps he leaves behind at first base.

  • AJ Reed DH | HOU

Astros' A.J. Reed: Activated form DL

Reed (hamstring) was activated from Triple-A disabled list on Sunday, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Reed had missed time with a hamstring injury but now has returned to Triple-A Fresno's lineup. Despite a slow start to the season, Reed could find himself called up to the Astros sometime this season as Tyler White continues to struggle at first base.

  • Byron Buxton CF | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Returns from back spasms

Buxton returned after missing a week due to a sore back and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases Saturday in Triple-A Rochester.

A bout of back spasms kept Buxton off the field for a week, but he looks back to full speed. Buxton has been playing well since his demotion to the minors, as he's hitting .307/.489/.489 with three home runs in 21 games at Triple-A.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Tigers' J.D. Martinez: Hits fourth homer in six games Saturday

Martinez went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer Saturday against the Rays.

Martinez's ninth bomb of the year gave the Tigers a pair of insurance runs that they ended up needing to hold on to a one-run victory. He's now hit four homers over his last six games, and he's slashing .256/.331/.481.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Continuing to tear laces out of the baseball

Cabrera belted two home runs to drive in three runs in Friday's loss to the Rays. He now has eight on the season and has gotten at least one hit in each of his last six games.

The first home run traveled 364 feet to right field and the second was a 431-foot monster that hit the TV tower in dead centerfield. It was just Miggy's second multi-home fun game of the season and first since late April. But Cabrera's been on fire in the last week, going 11-for-24 with four dingers and eight RBI and raising his OPS nearly 100 points to .896.

  • Ryan Goins DH | KC

Blue Jays' Ryan Goins: Losing grip on big league job

The addition of Jimmy Paredes, who was picked up off waivers from Baltimore, is likely to reduce Goins' role with the Blue Jays, the Toronto Star reports.

He has already been ceding more playing time to Darwin Barney, but this could signify the end is near for Goins. The middle infielder is hitting just .155 through 110 at-bats, and Goins is facing the possibility of a trip to the minors once Devon Travis (shoulder) returns from the DL.
