  • Astros' Michael Brantley: Sitting out Saturday

Brantley isn't in the lineup Saturday against the Rangers.

After starting every game for the past month, Brantley will get a breather ahead of the playoffs. Yuli Gurriel will rest his legs Saturday with Aledmys Diaz starting at first base.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Sits as expected

Jimenez (foot) will remain on the bench as expected Saturday against the Cubs.

Jimenez remains day-to-day with a mild sprain of his right foot. He's unlikely to play again before the regular season ends Sunday, but his participation in the playoffs may not be threatened. Adam Engel will continue to be the left fielder in his absence.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Delivers walkoff homer

Canha went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run and a pair of walks during Friday's win over the Mariners.

With the score tied 1-1 in the 10th inning, Canha came through in the clutch with a two-run walkoff homer against Joey Gerber, scoring Ramon Laureano in the process. It was the fifth long ball of the year for Canha, who leads the A's in batting average (.235) and on-base percentage (.375).

  • Byron Buxton DH | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Diagnosed with head contusion

Buxton was diagnosed with a head contusion following Friday's loss to the Reds, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Buxton left Friday's game immediately after being hit by a pitch in the helmet in the eighth inning. He'll be re-evaluated Saturday to help determine the extent of the issue. If Buxton is sidelined, Jake Cave could fill in as the center fielder.

  • Byron Buxton DH | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Exits after hit in head

Buxton left Friday's game in the eighth inning after getting hit in the head by a pitch, Phil Miller reports.

Buxton was able to walk off under his own power after a fastball hit him in the helmet. Jake Cave replaced him as a pinch runner.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Won't opt out

Stanton will not be opting out of the remainder of his contract this offseason, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

Stanton has seven years and $218 million remaining on the contract that he signed with the Marlins back in 2014. It's possible that he could have beaten that number on the open market had he been healthier over the past few seasons, but it's unlikely that teams would give a player with his injury history that much money for the majority of his 30s.

  • Luis Torrens DH | NYM

Mariners' Luis Torrens: Not starting Friday

Torrens isn't in the lineup Friday against the Athletics.

Torrens recorded hits in four of the last five games, going 5-for-17 with two RBI, one run and five strikeouts during that time. Joseph Odom will start behind the dish in his place.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Participates in sim game

Choi (hamstring) ran the bases and hit live pitching Friday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Choi has been hitting for a few days but hadn't done much running, so Friday represents a step forward as he works his way back from a strained left hamstring. Time is quite tight for him to return before the end of the regular season, but it looks as though he could be a factor in the playoffs.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Not in lineup

Ohtani is not starting Friday against the Dodgers.

Albert Pujols gets the nod as the designated hitter with lefty Clayton Kershaw on the mound for the Dodgers. Ohtani has had a very tough time at the plate this season, hitting just .194/.297/.382.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Diagnosed with mild sprain

Jimenez is considered day-to-day with a mild right foot sprain, James Fegan of The Athletic reports.

Jimenez left Thursday's game with the injury, which was originally called right foot soreness. Adam Engel starts in left field Friday. The White Sox have clinched a playoff berth but are still fighting with the Twins for the AL Central title, and they don't want to rush Jimenez back before he's ready simply for seeding purposes. As a result, he isn't expected to play at any point this weekend, per Scott Merkin of MLB.com.
