  • Luis Torrens DH | NYM

Mariners' Luis Torrens: Getting regular reps at DH

Torrens will serve as the Mariners' designated hitter and will bat fifth Sunday against the Angels.

Torrens has lost work behind the plate of late to rookie Cal Raleigh, but the former still appears to be locked into solid playing time as the Mariners' primary option at DH. He'll pick up a seventh straight start Sunday, with six of those assignments coming as a DH. With a .915 OPS through 10 games in July, Torrens should stick in the lineup until his bat cools down.

  • Byron Buxton DH | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Limited to conditioning work

Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Sunday that Buxton has been taking part in lower-body activity and conditioning work, but the outfielder isn't yet performing drills with his fractured left hand, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. "The gripping and the starting to do things baseball activity-wise with his hand has not really taken off yet, but we weren't expecting it to," Baldelli said of Buxton. "It's still a little ways away."

Baldelli's comments don't offer much optimism that Buxton will be back before the end of the month, but the 27-year-old at least appears set to avoid surgery on the injured hand. Buxton will likely need to receive the green light from a doctor before he takes part in defensive drills and batting practice.

  • Jorge Soler DH | LAA

    Royals' Jorge Soler: Resting Sunday

Soler is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.

Soler served as Kansas City's designated hitter for the first two games of the series, going 1-for-8 with two runs and a walk. He'll be getting a breather in the series finale, clearing the way for Ryan O'Hearn to receive a turn as the DH.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Delivers walkoff hit Saturday

Cabrera went 1-for-4 with an RBI in the Tigers' 5-4 win over the Twins in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader.

In the bottom of the eighth inning with a runner on second, Cabrera flared a short fly ball to center field, which dropped in for the walkoff hit and sweep of the doubleheader. It was a nice moment for the veteran, but he's been struggling most of the season, as his .638 OPS would easily be a new career worst. Despite the struggles, Cabrera should still play most days as long as he stays healthy.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

    Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Sitting Sunday

Choi is not in Sunday's lineup against Atlanta, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The lefty slugger will head to the bench in a National League park against southpaw Drew Smyly. Yandy Diaz will start at first base and hit second.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Goes 1-for-4 in return

Canha (hip) went 1-for-4 with a strikeout in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Cleveland.

Canha missed just over three weeks while battling tendinitis and a left hip strain. The outfielder hit in his usual leadoff spot Saturday, although it may take him some time to get comfortable at the plate after not going on a rehab assignment. The 32-year-old has a .255/.376/.447 slash line with 11 home runs, 33 RBI, 55 runs scored and seven stolen bases through 329 plate appearances this year.

  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Indians' Franmil Reyes: Slugs 15th homer

Reyes went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 3-2 win over Oakland.

The designated hitter came up empty in his first three at-bats before swatting an offering from J.B. Wendelken to center field. Reyes has homered four times in nine games since he came off the injured list July 2. For the season, he's slashing .271/.325/.597 with 15 homers, 40 RBI, 27 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases through 197 plate appearances.

  • Mark Canha LF | TEX

Athletics' Mark Canha: Activated from IL

The Athletics reinstated Canha (hip) from the 10-day injured list Saturday, Shayna Rubin of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

The outfielder had been sidelined since June 25 with tendinitis and a strain in his left hip. In 74 games before the injury, Canha got on base at a .375 clip and hit 11 home runs. With his on-base prowess, the 32-year-old figures to once again be Oakland's everyday leadoff hitter. Skye Bolt was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas in a corresponding move.

  • Ji-Man Choi 1B | NYM

Rays' Ji-Man Choi: Homers in win

Choi went 1-for-6 with a solo home run in Friday's 7-6 win over Atlanta.

Choi took Michael Wacha yard in the fifth, knotting the game up at three apiece. It was his fourth homer of the year and his first since June 27. The 30-year-old is slashing .248/.371/.402 with 10 extra-base hits, 20 RBI, 16 runs scored and 21:39 BB:K over 140 plate appearances this season.

  • Astros' Michael Brantley: Swats sixth homer

Brantley went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored Friday in a 7-1 victory versus the White Sox.

Brantley's homer in the fifth inning gave Houston a 3-1 lead, and he helped pad that margin by singling and scoring in the seventh. The pair of hits pushed his season batting average up to a robust .329, fourth-best in MLB. Brantley also has six homers, 32 RBI and 44 runs scored on the season.
