  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Sits as expected

Martinez (groin) is absent from the lineup as expected Friday against Tampa Bay, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Martinez left Wednesday's game against Toronto with left adductor tightness and didn't play Thursday, with reports from that day indicating that he'd likely miss at least one more day. The Red Sox previously indicated that Martinez wasn't expected to hit the injured list, so it looks as though he could be back in action soon.

  • Nick Solak 1B | PIT

Rangers' Nick Solak: Belts big blast

Solak went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 8-6 win over Seattle.

The Mariners built a five-run first-inning lead in the contest, but the Rangers clawed their way back. They took their first lead in the fifth inning when Solak swatted a two-run shot to left field. The long ball was his second of the season and first since Opening Day. Before Thursday, he hadn't knocked in a run over his previous seven games.

  • Franmil Reyes DH | WAS

Guardians' Franmil Reyes: Swats first homer

Reyes went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run Thursday against the White Sox.

Reyes got the Guardians on the board by recording his first home run -- and first extra-base hit -- of the season in the third inning. Two frames later he struck out for the 17th time this year, and he has now punched out at least once in each of his 11 starts. Reyes has gotten off to a dreadful stat across his first 49 plate appearances, though he has a lengthy track record of providing reliable power production, so it is too early to panic.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Rangers' Brad Miller: Takes seat Thursday

Miller isn't starting Thursday's game against the Mariners.

Miller started in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners, but he'll get a breather with southpaw Marco Gonzales on the mound Thursday. Nick Solak will start in left field and bat fifth.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Unlikely to play Friday

Martinez (groin), who isn't in the lineup Thursday against the Blue Jays, likely won't play Friday against the Rays, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.

Martinez is still sore with tightness in his adductor, and he continues to receive treatment. Although the 34-year-old will travel with the team to Tampa Bay, he's unlikely to play in Friday's series opener. Manager Alex Cora has said he doesn't think Martinez will require a trip to the injured list, so the slugger should be considered day-to-day.

  • Byron Buxton DH | MIN

Twins' Byron Buxton: Back in action Thursday

Buxton (knee) is starting at designated hitter and leading off Thursday against the Royals, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

This was a relatively quick return for Buxton, who left last Friday's game with a knee injury that did not involve structural damage. The Twins slotting him in at DH is not surprising, and it's unclear when he will be ready to return to center field.

  • Eloy Jimenez DH | TOR

White Sox's Eloy Jimenez: Starting at DH

Jimenez (ankle) is starting at designated hitter and batting sixth Thursday against the Guardians, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

This is encouraging, as Jimenez has missed significant time with lower-body issues throughout the years, but this ankle soreness didn't require a trip to the injured list. The White Sox may look to get him more starts at designated hitter in the short term in an effort to avoid a reoccurrence.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Out as expected Thursday

Martinez (groin) is not in Thursday's lineup against the Blue Jays.

Martinez is dealing with adductor tightness after leaving Wednesday's contest, and the Red Sox will hold him out for this day game as expected, although an IL stint isn't believed to be necessary. Rafael Devers gets the start at DH while Bobby Dalbec slides to third base and Travis Shaw slots in at first base.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Dazzles in first win

Ohtani (1-2) picked up the win in Wednesday's 6-0 victory over the Astros, scattering one hit and one walk over six scoreless innings while striking out 12.

Not only was Ohtani brilliant on the mound, taking a perfect game into the sixth inning and firing 55 of 81 pitches for strikes while generating 20 swinging strikes, he gave himself all the run support he needed by going 2-for-4 at the plate with a walk, a double, a run scored and two RBI. The two-way superstar tied his MLB career high in strikeouts with the performance, and he'll carry a 4.40 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and dominant 26:4 K:BB through 14.1 innings into his next start.

  • Miguel Cabrera DH | DET

Tigers' Miguel Cabrera: Nearing 3,000 career hits

Cabrera went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Wednesday's loss to the Yankees.

For the second time in his last five games, Cabrera had a three-hit night with all the hits being singles, but fantasy managers won't complain about the consistent contact. The good stretch at the plate has also propelled the veteran to 2,999 hits for his storied career, putting him on the verge of becoming the 33rd player in MLB history with 3,000 hits. The Tigers play the Yankees again in a Thursday afternoon contest at home, so expect Cabrera to be in the lineup as he chases the milestone.
