  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Leaves due to illness

Alvarez was removed from Friday's game in Atlanta since he was feeling ill on the field, and he was transported to a local hospital to be evaluated, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Alvarez abruptly left the field with Atlanta up to bat during the fifth inning, so it makes sense he's dealing with an illness rather than an injury. It's unclear if the ailment will affect the slugger's availability for the remaining two games of the series.

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Exits Friday's game

Alvarez was removed from Friday's game in Atlanta with an apparent injury, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

The 25-year-old went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts before leaving the field during the middle of an at-bat with Atlanta at the plate during the fifth inning. It's unclear what prompted Alvarez's exit, and he should be considered day-to-day until more information is available.

  • Kyle Lewis DH | ARI

Mariners' Kyle Lewis: Agrees to play at Triple-A

Lewis, who has not played at Triple-A Tacoma since being optioned Aug. 10, is in the Rainiers' lineup as the designated hitter Friday.

This will be the first time he has been placed on the lineup card at Triple-A since his demotion, as Lewis was apparently stunned and upset by the team's decision to bump him off the 26-man roster, according to Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times. According to Divish, Lewis has been having his own rehab therapist consult with the Mariners regarding his recovery from season-ending knee surgery in 2021. However, his absence from the Triple-A lineup over the past week has been his decision, not related to injury. The 27-year-old corner outfielder/designated hitter slashed .143/.226/.304 in 18 games in the majors and the Mariners' were reportedly frustrated by Lewis' lack of availability to play the outfield, given his struggles at the plate.

  • Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton: Starting rehab assignment Saturday

Stanton (Achilles) will start a rehab assignment Saturday with Double-A Somerset, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

It's not clear how many games Stanton will need to log in the minors before rejoining the big-league lineup. The right-handed slugger has not played since July 23 and is hitting .228/.309/.498 with 24 home runs in 80 games.

  • J.D. Martinez DH | NYM

Red Sox's J.D. Martinez: Day off Friday

Martinez is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Orioles, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Martinez will get a day off after he went 3-for-8 with five walks and three runs during a three-game series with the Pirates. Rob Refsnyder will replace him at designated hitter and bat seventh in the series opener.

  • Harold Ramirez DH | WAS

Rays' Harold Ramirez: Gets breather Thursday

Ramirez isn't starting Thursday against the Royals, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Ramirez started the last two games after returning from the IL, and he went 2-for-9 with a solo home run and a strikeout. However, David Peralta will serve as the designated hitter while Roman Quinn starts in right field Thursday.

  • Brad Miller DH | SD

Rangers' Brad Miller: Sits against southpaw

Miller is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Athletics.

With lefty Zach Logue on the hill for Oakland, the lefty-hitting Miller will bow out of the starting nine. Mark Mathias, who came off the bench to deliver an RBI double in Wednesday's 7-2 loss, will be rewarded with the start at designated hitter in the series finale while Miller sits.

  • Harold Ramirez DH | WAS

Rays' Harold Ramirez: Homers in road loss

Ramirez went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-7 loss to the Yankees.

Ramirez homered off lefty reliever Lucas Luetge to lead off the sixth and give the Rays a 4-0 lead. Although this marks only the second extra-base hit in the last ten games for the outfielder, he has an outstanding .353 batting average in 34 at-bats during that span. In addition, the 27-year-old has excelled against lefties with a .947 OPS in 75 at-bats compared to a .769 OPS in 174 at-bats against right-handed pitching this year.

  • Shohei Ohtani DH | LAD

Angels' Shohei Ohtani: Knocks in four

Ohtani went 4-for-5 with a two-run home run, a triple and two RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners.

Ohtani had a stellar day at the plate, sending Magneuris Sierra home on a fifth-inning single, David Fletcher home on a seventh-inning triple and Fletcher again on a ninth-inning homer. The superstar was a double shy of hitting for the cycle with two singles, a triple and a homer. The home run was Ohtani's 27th of the year and his fifth this month. He extended his hit streak to five games, which includes a three-hit and four-hit outing. During that span, Ohtani has increased his batting average from .253 to .265.

  • Jesse Winker DH | NYM

Mariners' Jesse Winker: Hits two-run homer

Winker went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in Wednesday's 11-7 victory over the Angels.

Winker scored early on a Carlos Santana single in the third inning, then launched a two-run shot in the sixth that scored Adam Frazier. It was Winker's 13th home run of the year and his fourth in August. In 37 at-bats this month, Winker has picked up nine hits and 12 walks but has also struck out 10 times giving the outfielder a .243/.420/.568 slash line.
