  • Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Sent back to Toledo

Malloy was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday.

Malloy hasn't hit particularly well in his first taste of the majors, as he's maintained only a .217 average with a 36.3 percent strikeout rate in 204 plate appearances. He's also lost playing time due to the return of Kerry Carpenter, so the Tigers will opt for Malloy to continue his development in the minor leagues for the time being.

  • David Fry C | CLE

Guardians' David Fry: Sitting again Sunday

Fry is absent from Sunday's lineup against Milwaukee.

Fry will sit for the third time in four games, with Steven Kwan serving as the designated hitter for Sunday's contest. Since Aug. 1, Fry is slashing .163/.217/.442 with four home runs and seven RBI across 45 plate appearances.

  • Yordan Alvarez DH | HOU

Astros' Yordan Alvarez: Receiving Sunday off

Alvarez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox.

The 27-year-old missed one game due to hip tightness in mid-July but started the next 29 games and posted a 1.026 OPS with six homers and an 18:17 BB:K during that stretch. Alvarez will receive a well-earned day off Sunday as Pedro Leon gets a start in the outfield.

  • David Fry C | CLE

Guardians' David Fry: On bench Saturday

Fry is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Brewers.

Fry is absent from the starting lineup for the second time in three games, giving way to Will Brennan at DH. So far in August, Fry is 7-for-42 (.167 average) with four home runs.

  • Red Sox's Masataka Yoshida: Idle against lefty

Yoshida is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Orioles.

Yoshida will dodge a matchup with southpaw Cade Povich, yielding to Connor Wong at DH. Yoshida is 8-for-13 with a home run, four RBI and four runs scored in his last four games.

  • Brent Rooker DH | ATH

Athletics' Brent Rooker: Back from paternity list

The Athletics reinstated Rooker (personal) from the paternity list ahead of Saturday's game against the Giants.

As expected, Rooker will return after being away from the team for three days. He is hitting .316 with five home runs, 12 runs, 13 RBI and one steal in his last 15 games.

  • Tigers' Justyn-Henry Malloy: Moves up to third in order

Malloy is starting in left field and batting third in Saturday's game against the Yankees.

Malloy batted sixth Friday, but he'll move up three spots for Saturday's contest. The rookie has bounced around the order a bit recently, as he's served as the leadoff hitter twice in the past week while also sliding down to seventh on one occasion. Malloy has the power potential to be a regular middle-of-the-order bat, though he's batting just .216 and striking out 36 percent of the time this year, which has kept him from truly breaking out.

  • Bligh Madris DH | STL

Tigers' Bligh Madris: Sent down to Toledo

The Tigers optioned Madris to Triple-A Toledo following Friday's contest against the Yankees, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Madris was called up to the big club July 21. He had a strong start in the majors, but over his last 10 outings he's gone 5-for-33 with two RBI and a 27.8 percent strikeout rate. The move makes room on the Tigers' 26-man roster for the recall of Spencer Torkelson.

  • David Fry C | CLE

Guardians' David Fry: Adds solo shot in loss

Fry went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Brewers.

Fry is turning things around at the plate -- he's gone just 5-for-24 over his last seven games, but three of those hits have been homers. The 28-year-old's blast Friday cut the Guardians' deficit to two runs, but they couldn't keep their rally going. Fry is up to 12 homers, 42 RBI, 38 runs scored, four stolen bases and a .268/.367/.449 slash line through 95 contests this season.

  • Trevor Larnach LF | MIN

Twins' Trevor Larnach: Out again versus lefty

Larnach is not in the lineup for Friday's game versus the Rangers.

The Twins are facing a third straight lefty in Andrew Heaney and Larnach has been on the bench for the last two of them. Matt Wallner is in left field and Royce Lewis will be the team's designated hitter.
