  • Jonah Heim C | ATH

Rangers' Jonah Heim: Fresh after two-day break

Heim went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 5-3 win over Baltimore.

Heim returned to the lineup following a two-day respite. The catcher entered Saturday's game in a 1-for-23 stretch, but the time off appears to be what was needed. He fell off in the second half of 2022 after a strong start, and the Rangers are expected to take steps to prevent a similar situation this season.

  • Red Sox's Reese McGuire: Delivers winning run

McGuire went 0-for-3 with an RBI in Saturday's 2-1 win over Arizona.

The Red Sox played small ball, as McGuire laid down a one-out bunt that plated Triston Casas from third base for the game-winning run. The backup catcher is going through a tough stretch, batting .136 (3-for-22) with a 39.1 percent strikeout rate over the last nine games. Despite the downturn, McGuire maintains a respectable .286 average for the season.

  • Mets' Francisco Alvarez: Stays hot Saturday

Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and a double in Saturday's 10-7 loss to the Rockies.

Alvarez has hit safely in his last seven games, going 11-for-25 (.440) with four homers and 10 RBI in that span. The catcher also has just one strikeout in that span, which came in Saturday's contest. It's been enough to earn him a starting role lately. Alvarez is slashing .273/.333/.545 with seven homers, 16 RBI, 13 runs scored and six doubles through 108 plate appearances.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Yankees' Jose Trevino: Could return Sunday

Trevino (hamstring) could be ready to return Sunday versus the Padres, per MLB.com.

Trevino began running on the field early this week and performed agility drills Friday, according to Brendan Kuty of The Athletic. The backstop is eligible to be activated from the injured list Sunday, though the Yankees have not indicated whether that will happen. Trevino will presumably regain starting catcher duties upon his return, as neither Kyle Higashioka nor Ben Rortvedt have done much with the bat in his absence.

  • Nick Fortes C | TB

Marlins' Nick Fortes: Out of lineup

Fortes is out of the lineup for Saturday's contest against the Angels.

Fortes has picked up multiple hits in two of his last three starts, but he'll take a seat against Shohei Ohtani and the Angels on Saturday. Jacob Stallings will get the start behind the plate and hit eighth.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Returns to lineup

Moreno (teeth) will bat seventh and start behind the plate Saturday against Boston.

Moreno sat for the last two games while recovering from root canal surgery, though he did appear off the bench Friday. He'll be involved from the start Saturday and look to continue a good run in which he has hit .327/.400/.429 with a homer and a pair of steals in his last 15 games.

  • Connor Wong C | BOS

Red Sox's Connor Wong: Day off Saturday

Wong is not in the starting lineup Saturday against Arizona, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

Wong will get a breather after he went 3-for-7 with a homer, two doubles, two RBI and four runs scored while starting the last two games. Reese McGuire will draw the start at catcher and bat ninth versus the Diamondbacks.

  • Brewers' William Contreras: Heads to bench Saturday

Contreras is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Giants.

Contreras just had a day off Thursday, so it's a little surprising to see him sit again in favor of Victor Caratini. He's been in a bad way at the plate in recent weeks (.140/.260/.302 over his last 12 games), so perhaps manager Craig Counsell is simply trying to get his young catcher going again with some extra rest.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: First career four-hit game

Bailey went 4-for-5 with a double, three RBI and a run scored in Friday's 15-1 win over the Brewers.

Bailey hit safely in four of the first five games in which he recorded an at-bat. He was able to enjoy his first big game Friday in the blowout win. Bailey's seeing consistent playing time, and he's done well with it, logging three extra-base hits and seven RBI while batting. 364 through 24 plate appearances.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Not in starting nine

Kirk will sit Saturday against the Twins.

Kirk has served as the designated hitter just once in the last 20 games, so nearly all his playing time has to come behind the plate. Danny Jansen hit the injured list with a strained left groin Friday, which could mean an increased role for Kirk going forward, but it's Tyler Heineman who will be the catcher Saturday.
