  • Austin Nola C | COL

Padres' Austin Nola: Back on bench

Nola will be on the bench for Saturday's game against the Yankees, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Nola's playing time has slipped recently, particularly against right-handers. He remains the primary catcher against lefties, but it's been Brett Sullivan behind the plate against four of the last five righties, including Saturday's starter Luis Severino. Nola is hitting .135/.259/.188 on the year, so he's not making much of a case to expand his role.

  • Twins' Christian Vazquez: Sitting Saturday

Vazquez is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Blue Jays.

Vazquez will take a seat after he went 0-for-2 with two strikeouts in Friday's series opener. Ryan Jeffers will take over behind the plate and bat seventh against Toronto.

  • Cal Raleigh C | SEA

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Good wood on ball Friday

Raleigh went 2-for-3 with two doubles, a walk and a run in a loss to the Pirates on Friday.

Raleigh kept up his season-long trend of squaring up the ball formidably, belting his 16th and 17th extra-base hits of the season. The pair of two-baggers snapped a modest extra-base-hit drought for Raleigh, who'd last produced something other than a single May 17. The 26-year-old boosted his OPS to .773 with Friday's performance, equaling the career-high figure he finished the 2022 campaign with.

  • Rays' Christian Bethancourt: Piling up hits

Bethancourt went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI on Friday against the Dodgers.

Bethancourt turned in his second consecutive multi-hit game and third in his last four starts. After slugging five homers in April, Bethancourt has only two long balls -- and six extra-base hits overall -- across 18 games in May. Nevertheless, he's maintained a .275 batting average with five RBI and seven runs scored in that same span.

  • Orioles' Adley Rutschman: Perfect day at plate

Rutschman went 3-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk in Friday's loss to Texas.

Rutschman homered in the first inning and was one of just two Orioles with multiple hits in the blowout loss. Since his last multi-hit game May 13, he was hitting just .171 (7-for-41) over an 11-game stretch. Despite a streaky month, Rutschman is still sporting a strong .274/.402/.441 slash line with a 41:31 BB:K and 15 extra-base hits this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Out due to root canal surgery

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters prior to Friday's game against the Red Sox that Moreno is not in the lineup against the Red Sox after undergoing root canal surgery, but he is available off the bench, Jesse Friedman of PHNX Sports reports.

It seems likely that Moreno will only be used in an emergency situation, but there's a good chance the backstop will return to action later in the series against Boston.

  • Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Sits second straight

Moreno isn't in Arizona's lineup for Friday's game against Boston.

Moreno is batting just .154 (2-for-13) over the last week, so he'll get another day to regroup. Jose Herrera will take over behind the plate and bat ninth.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Out of lineup Friday

Langeliers is absent from the lineup Friday against the Astros.

Carlos Perez will start at catcher and Brent Rooker will serve as Oakland's designated hitter. Langeliers has slashed just .169/.250/.254 with one home run over his last 80 plate appearances dating back to April 30.

  • Matt Thaiss C | BOS

Angels' Matt Thaiss: Out of lineup against lefty

Thaiss is out of the lineup Friday versus the Marlins.

Chad Wallach will catch and bat eighth with left-hander Jesus Luzardo set to take the mound for Miami. Thaiss is enjoying a strong season but probably will continue to sit against most southpaws.

  • Danny Jansen C | TEX

Blue Jays' Danny Jansen: Lands on injured list

The Blue Jays placed Jansen on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left groin strain.

Jansen suffered a groin injury while running to first base Wednesday against Tampa Bay, and he will now officially be forced to sit out until early June. Alejandro Kirk will likely fill in as Toronto's primary catcher while Jansen is on the IL, and Tyler Heineman -- who was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday -- figures to be Kirk's backup.
