  • Phillies' Rafael Marchan: Cleared for rehab games

Marchan (hand/wrist) is beginning a rehab assignment Tuesday with Single-A Clearwater.

Marchan was placed on the 60-day injured list before the start of the 2023 regular season after requiring surgery for a fractured right hamate bone. He figures to require a large number of minor-league at-bats and might ultimately be stationed at Triple-A Lehigh Valley once he's deemed fully fit.

  • Gary Sanchez DH | MIL

Padres' Gary Sanchez: Hitting seventh in team debut

Sanchez is catching and batting seventh in his Padres debut Tuesday versus the Marlins.

Sanchez was claimed off waivers from the Mets on Monday and might be poised for a fairly regular role at catcher given how badly Austin Nola has struggled. Brett Sullivan was optioned out to Triple-A El Paso upon Sanchez's arrival.

  • Padres' Brett Sullivan: Optioned to Triple-A

San Diego optioned Sullivan to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.

Gary Sanchez was claimed off waivers from the Mets on Monday and will officially join the Padres ahead of Tuesday night's series opener in Miami to presumably share time behind the plate with Austin Nola. Sullivan, 29, had slashed just .170/.184/.298 through 21 games this season with the Friars.

  • Mitch Garver C | SEA

Rangers' Mitch Garver: Rehab going well

Garver (knee) started at catcher and went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and an additional run scored for Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday.

Garver batted leadoff to maximize plate appearances and was removed after six innings. It was his second consecutive game behind the plate. The catcher/DH began a rehab assignment last week and is 5-for-13 with three walks, two doubles, two home runs, four RBI and five runs scored over four games. The Rangers may want see him play nine innings before activating him this week.

  • Guardians' Cam Gallagher: Drives in two runs

Gallagher went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in Monday's 5-0 win over the Orioles.

Gallagher has played infrequently as the Guardians' backup catcher, and this was his second two-RBI game of the year. It's been an ugly May for Gallagher -- he's gone 5-for-32 (.156) over 12 contests. While he remains in the backup role, he could be at risk of losing his spot on the Guardians' roster if they decide to call up Bo Naylor for an extended look in the majors.

  • Ryan Jeffers C | MIN

Twins' Ryan Jeffers: Belts game-winning homer

Jeffers went 3-for-5 with a two-run home run in Monday's 10-inning win over the Astros.

Jeffers already had two hits when he came to the plate with the game tied in the top of the 10th. The backstop plated what proved to be the winning runs with a two-run blast to left field. Jeffers has homered twice over his past 12 at-bats after notching just one long ball across his first 25 contests of the campaign. Christian Vazquez has yet to go deep this season and is slashing a paltry .223/.296/.250, so the door is open for Jeffers to earn more playing time if he continues to swing a hot bat.

  • Matt Thaiss C | BOS

Angels' Matt Thaiss: Goes deep, swipes bag

Thaiss went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, two runs scored and a stolen base in Monday's win over the White Sox.

Thaiss belted a solo shot as part of the Angels' four-run first inning and later stole his first bag of the year. The 28-year-old was 5-for-22 over his last 10 appearances since his last multi-hit game May 16. Thaiss boosted his season slash line to .300/.379/.444 with seven extra-base hits and 16 runs scored across 103 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Drives in four runs

Bailey went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, four RBI and two runs scored in Monday's win over the Pirates.

Bailey knocked a two-run double in the second inning before capping off his day with a two-run shot in the seventh. The rookie catcher has collected seven hits and seven RBI over his last three games. After posting a .777 OPS through 28 minor-league appearances, Bailey is slashing .355/.375/.645 with five extra-base hits in 33 MLB plate appearances.

  • Gary Sanchez DH | MIL

Padres' Gary Sanchez: Claimed by Padres

Sanchez was claimed off waivers by the Padres on Monday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

San Diego has received so little production from its catchers this season that the team has decided to roll the dice on Sanchez. He's no sure bet to provide more at the plate, of course, considering he's hit only .195/.287/.392 since the start of the 2020 campaign. He has popped 49 homers over that span, though, so the Friars will hope he has a little juice left in his bat.

  • White Sox's Yasmani Grandal: Taking seat Monday

Grandal is not in the lineup for Monday's tilt versus the Angels, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Grandal had started the last three contests but will start this one on the bench. Seby Zavala will catch Michael Kopech.
