  • Jake Rogers C | DET

Tigers' Jake Rogers: On bench Wednesday

Rogers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Rogers is 4-for-21 with 10 strikeouts in his past six games, and he'll take a seat for Wednesday's contest. Carson Kelly will step in behind the plate to catch for Matt Manning.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Getting some rest

Perez is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the White Sox.

It looks to be a routine day off for the star catcher. Freddy Fermin will catch for Jordan Lyles on Wednesday as Perez gets some rest.

  • Seby Zavala C | LAD

Diamondbacks' Seby Zavala: Claimed by Diamondbacks

Zavala was claimed off waivers by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Zavala was designated for assignment by the White Sox earlier this week but has found a new home and goes to a team in playoff contention. The 30-year-old is out of options, so he'll head straight to the major-league club.

  • Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: On bench Wednesday

Kirk is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's tilt in Oakland, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

It's a day game after a night game, so Kirk will get a breather. Tyler Heineman is doing the catching for Hyun Jin Ryu.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Getting day off

Langeliers is out of the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Blue Jays.

Langeliers had caught three straight, so he's earned a breather for Wednesday's afternoon game. Carlos Perez will do the catching for JP Sears.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Swipes bag Tuesday

Smith went 1-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss to Miami.

Smith started the game as the Dodgers' DH but shifted to his usual spot behind the plate in the eighth inning as a replacement for Austin Barnes, who exited the contest after getting hit in the head on a backswing. Smith had already contributed a run-scoring single and a stolen base at that point, extending a modest three-game hitting streak. The All-Star catcher has been heating up of late, slashing .333/.375/.467 with a homer, two runs and two RBI over his past seven games.

  • Austin Wynns C | ATH

Rockies' Austin Wynns: Starting at catcher

Wynns is in the Rockies' lineup Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

Elias Diaz is getting another breather Wednesday, so Wynns will get his second start in four games.

  • Elias Diaz C | KC

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Takes seat Wednesday

Diaz is not in the Rockies' lineup Wednesday against the Diamondbacks.

Diaz will sit for the second time in four games, though the catcher has appeared in every game since Aug. 22. Austin Wynns will start for the 32-year-old and bat ninth.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Goes on concussion injured list

Bailey was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list Wednesday.

Bailey suffered the concussion during Tuesday's loss to the Cubs when he was involved in a collision at the plate with Jeimer Candelario. He will be eligible to return next week, but as is the case anytime a concussion is involved, it's difficult to project when Bailey might be ready. Blake Sabol and Joey Bart will handle the catching duties for the Giants while Bailey is sidelined.

  • Joey Bart C | PIT

Giants' Joey Bart: Coming up from Triple-A

Bart was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday.

Patrick Bailey suffered a concussion Tuesday and will be sidelined at least for the next week. Bart could start at catcher against lefties while Bailey is out, with Blake Sabol seeing most of the action versus righties. The 2018 first-round pick has a lowly .634 OPS over parts of four major-league seasons.
