  • Sean Murphy C | ATL

Braves' Sean Murphy: Another day of rest

Murphy is not in the lineup Friday for a second consecutive day, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Atlanta has a 14-game lead in the NL East standings and can afford to give some regulars extra rest down the stretch. Travis d'Arnaud will again start at catcher and bat sixth Friday against Pittsburgh, just as he did in Thursday's series finale versus the Cardinals.

  • Reds' Tyler Stephenson: Takes seat Friday

Stephenson is out of the lineup Friday against the Cardinals.

Luke Maile will catch and bat ninth versus the Cardinals and lefty Drew Rom. This appears to be a routine day of rest for Stephenson, who has gone 7-for-12 with a homer, two doubles and four RBI over his last four games.

  • Korey Lee C | CHW

White Sox's Korey Lee: Day off Friday

Lee isn't in the White Sox's lineup Friday against the Tigers.

Lee will get a day off Friday after breaking his cold streak and going 3-for-7 with a homer and three RBI across his last two games. Yasmani Grandal will fill in behind the dish and bat eighth.

  • Gary Sanchez DH | MIL

Padres' Gary Sanchez: Officially lands on IL

Sanchez was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to Sept. 7, with a right wrist fracture.

Sanchez's season is now officially over after he broke his wrist earlier this week. He slugged 19 home runs in just 260 plate appearances with the Padres, which could be enough to land him a major-league contract this winter after he bounced around in 2023.

  • Riley Adams C | WAS

Nationals' Riley Adams: Lands on IL with hamate fracture

Adams was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a fractured left hamate bone, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Adams suffered the injury during Wednesday's win over the Mets and will require season-ending surgery. It's a bummer of an ending to what has been a nice season as a part-timer for the 27-year-old, as Adams produced a .273/.331/.476 slash line with four home runs in 44 games as Keibert Ruiz's understudy.

  • Yan Gomes C | CHC

Cubs' Yan Gomes: Getting breather Friday

Gomes is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks.

Miguel Amaya will do the catching for Jameson Taillon in the afternoon tilt at Wrigley Field. Gomes had started three of the last four behind the plate for the Cubs.

  • Will Smith C | LAD

Dodgers' Will Smith: Three knocks in rout

Smith went 3-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored in Thursday's 10-0 win over the Marlins.

Thursday marked Smith's fifth multi-hit performance in his last nine games. The 28-year-old backstop has posted a .325 batting average in 40 at-bats during this stretch, although 11 of his 13 hits have been singles. In 45 games since the All-Star break, Smith is slashing .266/.318/.395 with 11 doubles, four home runs, 22 RBI, 25 runs scored and two steals with a 19.5 percent strikeout rate and a 6.2 percent walk rate across 195 plate appearances.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Goes deep in win

D'Arnaud went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Cardinals in an 8-5 win Thursday.

Atlanta hit five homers in the contest, with d'Arnaud's two-run blast in the seventh inning being the only one that wasn't a solo shot. The long ball was the backstop's second in three games following a stretch of 17 contests during which he batted just .190 without leaving the park. D'Arnaud has 11 home runs on the season, reaching double digits in that category for the sixth time in 11 major-league campaigns.

  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Sitting out Thursday

O'Hoppe is not in the lineup Thursday against the Guardians, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

O'Hoppe had started each of the last three games, during which he went 2-for-11 with a double. He'll get a routine day off, with Chad Wallach stepping into the lineup to hit seventh while serving as the backstop.

  • Jose Herrera C | TEX

Diamondbacks' Jose Herrera: Optioned to Reno

Arizona optioned Herrera to Triple-A Reno on Thursday.

Seby Zavala, who was claimed off waivers from the White Sox on Wednesday, will step in as the new backup to starting catcher Gabriel Moreno. Herrera has slashed just .212/.301/.263 in 118 plate appearances this season with the Diamondbacks.
