  • Austin Wells C | NYY

Yankees' Austin Wells: Back in action Friday

Wells (hand) is starting behind the plate and batting cleanup Friday against the Cubs.

The 25-year-old sat out two straight games after being hit in the right hand by a pitch Monday, but he'll rejoin the starting nine following Thursday's team off day. Wells has gone 0-for-9 with three strikeouts through the first two games of September, but he was plenty productive in August with four homers and a .936 OPS in 22 contests.

  • Pirates' Yasmani Grandal: Eight-game hitting streak

Grandal went 1-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Nationals.

Grandal has started seven of 12 games behind the plate since Joey Bart (hamstring) went down, and he's enjoyed a productive two-week stretch. He has an eight-game hitting streak, during which he's gone 9-for-24 with a pair of homers, four RBI and six runs scored.

  • Giants' Patrick Bailey: Busts slump with three RBI

Bailey went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

Bailey collected two hits and drove in all three runs for the Giants, including a walk-off double to finish off the come-from-behind win. Bailey entered the game batting just 6-for-71 since the start of August (.085) with three RBI but doubled that total Thursday. It was the second-consecutive start for Bailey with two hits, signaling that he appears to be breaking out of his slump.

  • Cal Raleigh C | SEA

Mariners' Cal Raleigh: Crushes 29th homer, swipes bag

Raleigh went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's 6-4 win over the A's.

Raleigh hit a two-run blast off Joey Estes deep in the top of the first inning to get the scoring started. Raleigh also managed to steal his sixth base of the season, which is impressive considering he only had one steal in his first three seasons combined. The 27-year-old is now just one homer away from matching his total from last year and being the first catcher with 30 home runs in back-to-back seasons since Mike Piazza did it for eight straight years from 1995 to 2002.

  • Padres' Kyle Higashioka: Sitting down Thursday

Higashioka isn't in the Padres' lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Higashioka will receive a second consecutive day to rest Thursday while Elias Diaz catches for Martin Perez and bats eighth.

  • Angels' Logan O'Hoppe: Not in Thursday's lineup

O'Hoppe is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Rangers.

It's a routine day off for O'Hoppe, who had started each of the last two games and four of the last five. Matt Thaiss will do the catching in the series opener Thursday.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Sitting Thursday

D'Arnaud isn't in Atlanta's lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies.

D'Arnaud has seemingly taken over as Atlanta's primary option behind the plate, but he will take a seat Thursday while Sean Murphy catches for Reynaldo Lopez and bats sixth.

  • Drew Romo C | CHW

Rockies' Drew Romo: Absent from Colorado lineup

Romo is not in the lineup for Thursday's game in Atlanta.

Romo was in the lineup for each of the Rockies' last four contests (three at catcher, one at designated hitter), but he will begin this one on the bench. Hunter Goodman is behind the plate for the series finale.

  • Austin Wynns C | ATH

Reds' Austin Wynns: Rehab assignment scheduled

Wynns (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Sept. 17, MLB.com reports.

Wynns suffered a right teres major tear but was recently cleared to throw to bases. He is on the 60-day injured list and not eligible to return until Sept. 27, two days before the end of the season. While it's possible he could make a late-season return, it wouldn't seem to be a given that he's added to the Reds' roster.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Not in Oakland lineup

Langeliers is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Mariners.

It's a routine day of rest for Langeliers, who had started each of the previous six contests. Kyle McCann will do the catching for Joey Estes in the series finale.
