Maldonado went 1-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI in Sunday's game against the Angels.

All of Maldonado's hit, run, and RBI were his first on the season. He is just 1-for-18 (.056), but his opportunities have been limited, with him starting only five games and appearing in just seven in all. His playing time will remain limited as long as fellow catcher Jonathan Lucroy is healthy and part of the squad.

Nicholas went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in a win against the Blue Jays on Monday.

Nicholas has fared reasonably well in part-time duty in Texas this season. The 27-year-old rookie is hitting .258 with two home runs and four RBI in 31 at-bats while splitting time with Brian Holaday behind the plate.

The Reds have placed Mesoraco (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 28.

Handed a diagnosis of a torn labrum in his left shoulder, Mesoraco is almost certainly poised to miss more than the 15-day minimum. As he embarks upon his recovery process, Tucker Barnhart will man the backstop most days, while Jordan Pacheco and call-up Ramon Cabrera provide depth options.

Diaz (elbow) will undergo surgery on his right elbow this week, although the Pirates are confident that there is no UCL damage, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Fortunately for Diaz, it seems that he'll be able to avoid Tommy John surgery, but elbow surgery still will keep him on the shelf for some time. This really hurts the Pirates catching depth for this season, as they are fairly thin beyond Francisco Cervelli and Chris Stewart. A timetable for Diaz's return is currently unknown, but more details should surface after the surgery is complete.

Mesoraco (shoulder) had an MRI, but the Reds are still trying to determine the best course of action for his injury, John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Regardless of whether he lands on the disabled list, it's reasonable to think that Mesoraco's workload will be monitored carefully in the short term. Tucker Barnhart is picking up the extra start behind the plate Monday night.

Perez is out of the lineup Monday against the Brewers, Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports.

Perez will take a seat for the second day in a row after beginning the season with a .148/.207/.167 slash line. In limited opportunities, backup catcher Geovany Soto has a 1.038 OPS, so if things don't change soon, Perez may be relegated to the bench more frequently.

Mesoraco (shoulder) remains out of the lineup Monday against the Giants.

Mesoraco has not started since Wednesday s he continues to cope with stiffness in his left shoulder. The fact that the Reds appear to believe a DL stint won't be necessary is encouraging, but Mesoraco remains without a firm return date and should be considered day-to-day. Tucker Barnhart will make another start in place of Mesoraco on Monday.

Realmuto went 3-for-5 Sunday with with fifth double of the season.

It's his third straight multi-hit game, pushing Realmuto's slash line on the season to a robust .312/.329/.455. His poor plate discipline (11:1 K:BB) suggests that he won't be able to maintain that batting average, however.

Moore's contract was purchased from Triple-A Columbus on Sunday, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports.

The Tribe placed Roberto Perez on the DL in a corresponding move after the catcher fractured his right thumb in Saturday's game against the Phillies. Though he's now back in the majors, don't look for Moore to receive more than one or two starts per week behind regular starting catcher Yan Gomes.

Perez was placed on the disabled list Sunday with a fractured right thumb, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports.

Perez, the backup catcher to Yan Gomes, received the start in Saturday's game against the Phillies and injured his finger when he made a diving play at the plate in the fifth inning. It's uncertain how long of a recovery timetable Perez will face due to the injury, but it seems likely he'll miss beyond the 15-day minimum. With Perez on the DL, Adam Moore will be recalled from Triple-A Columbus to provide some catching depth.
