  • Guardians' Austin Hedges: Suffers ankle sprain

Hedges was removed from Friday's game against the White Sox with a sprained right ankle, Paul Hoynes of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

Hedges walked in his lone plate appearance before exiting the game with the injury. Luke Maile replaced him behind the plate, and top prospect Bo Naylor could be in line for a promotion should Hedges be forced to miss any time.

  • Gary Sanchez C | MIL

Twins' Gary Sanchez: Day off Friday

Sanchez is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Texas.

The Twins have alternated starters behind the plate for each of the past 10 games, and that trend will continue Friday after Sanchez went 0-for-2 with a walk and a run during Wednesday's series finale versus the Royals. Sandy Leon will form a battery with Dylan Bundy and bat ninth.

  • Max Stassi C | SF

Angels' Max Stassi: Remains out of lineup

Stassi isn't starting Friday against the Tigers, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Stassi is in the midst of a slump in which he's gone 0-for-18 with two walks and eight strikeouts over his last five games. He'll be on the bench for a second consecutive matchup while Kurt Suzuki starts behind the plate and bats ninth.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Mets' James McCann: Retreats to bench Friday

McCann isn't starting Friday against the Phillies.

McCann started the last two games and went 1-for-7 with a double and two strikeouts. Michael Perez will take over behind the plate and bat ninth.

  • Braves' William Contreras: Sitting again Friday

Contreras will sit Friday versus the Astros.

Contreras will take a seat for a second straight game Friday as the team starts a three-game series with the Astros. Robbie Grossman will take over at designated hitter and bat ninth in the series opener.

  • Pirates' Tyler Heineman: Sitting Friday

Heineman is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Reds.

Heineman will get a breather after he went 1-for-4 in Thursday's win over the Red Sox, his first game back from a groin injury that had landed him on the 10-day injured list. Jason Delay will start at catcher and bat ninth versus Cincinnati.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

    Yankees' Jose Trevino: Sitting Friday

Trevino is not in the starting lineup Friday against the Blue Jays.

Trevino will get a breather after he went 3-for-11 with two runs scored while starting the last three games. Kyle Higashioka will replace him behind the plate and bat ninth versus Toronto.

  • Tigers' Tucker Barnhart: Riding pine Friday

Barnhart isn't starting Friday against the Angels.

Barnhart has started mainly against right-handed pitchers this year, and he'll head to the bench with southpaw Patrick Sandoval on the mound Friday. Eric Haase is starting behind the plate and batting cleanup.

  • Athletics' Shea Langeliers: Plays first game behind dish

Langeliers drew his first big-league start at catcher in a loss to the Rangers on Thursday, going 1-for-4 with a double and a run.

The rookie backstop also threw out Marcus Semien on an attempted steal of second base in the first inning and had three assists overall in the first three frames, per the Associated Press. Langeliers has gotten off to a hot start with his bat against big-league arms, with all three of his hits over his first three games going for extra bases (two doubles and a home run).

  • Rays' Christian Bethancourt: Slugs sixth homer

Bethancourt went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored Thursday against the Royals.

Bethancourt took Josh Staumont yard in the eighth inning to record his sixth homer of the season. It was only his second home run since joining the Rays on July 11, and he has a poor .200/.214/.327 slash line across 55 at-bats with his new team. Bethancourt has lost out on some playing time since the return of Francisco Mejia, but he has still been in the lineup for six of the team's last 12 games.
