  • Eric Haase C | CHW

    Tigers' Eric Haase: Rejoins lineup

Haase (abdomen) will start at designated hitter and serve as the Tigers' No. 5 batter in Sunday's game against the Royals.

Haase checks back into the lineup after a one-game absence due to a lower abdominal contusion, which he sustained in Friday's 5-4 win. Though Haase is projected to see most of his playing time at catcher moving forward, he'll be eased back into action in a non-defensive role while Tucker Barnhart gets another turn behind the dish.

  • Red Sox's Reese McGuire: Out of Sunday's lineup

McGuire is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports.

McGuire went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and two strikeouts Saturday and will take a seat Sunday for the second time in the past three games. Connor Wong will work behind the plate in the series finale and bat ninth.

  • James McCann C | ARI

Mets' James McCann: Idle for day game

McCann is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Nationals.

After going 0-for-1 with a walk and a stolen base while catching eight innings in Saturday's 7-1 loss, McCann will get a breather for Sunday's series finale. Tomas Nido replaces McCann behind the dish.

  • Jose Trevino C | CIN

Yankees' Jose Trevino: Receives Sunday off

Trevino is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays.

Trevino started the past three games and will receive a maintenance day for the series finale in Tampa Bay. Kyle Higashioka will work behind the plate and bat ninth.

  • Rays' Francisco Mejia: Out of Sunday's lineup

Mejia is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Mejia went 2-for-3 with a run scored during Saturday's contest and will take a seat for the series finale. Christian Bethancourt will work behind the plate and bat seventh Sunday.

  • Braves' William Contreras: On bench again Sunday

Contreras is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

With Ronald Acuna having yet to resume duties in the outfield since making his return to the lineup Wednesday following a three-game absence due to a sore knee, Contreras has lost out on opportunities at designated hitter. Contreras will be on the bench for the third time in four games, with Travis d'Arnaud continuing to serve as Atlanta's preferred option at catcher.

  • Jason Delay C | BOS

    Pirates' Jason Delay: Resting Sunday

Delay is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.

Delay will receive a breather for the matinee game after he started in five of the past six games, including Saturday night's 4-1 loss. Tyler Heineman will serve as Pittsburgh's catcher Sunday in place of Delay.

  • Royals' Salvador Perez: Back in action Sunday

Perez (hand) is starting behind the plate and batting third Sunday against the Tigers, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.

The 32-year-old sat out Saturday's contest after being hit by a pitch on the right hand Friday, but he was diagnosed with a bruise after X-rays came back negative and will end up missing only one game. Perez is 0-for-7 through his first two games in September, though he finished August on a seven-game hitting streak, during which he had a 1.156 OPS.

  • Elias Diaz C | TEX

Rockies' Elias Diaz: Resting for early game

Diaz is out of the lineup for the first game of Sunday's doubleheader with the Reds.

Brian Serven will step in behind the dish while Diaz rests for the early game of the twin bill. Expect Diaz to re-enter the lineup for the nightcap, when he'll likely be catching for starting pitcher Jose Urena.

  • Tigers' Tucker Barnhart: Hits solo homer in loss

Barnhart went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Saturday's loss to the Royals.

Barnhart launched a solo shot in the fifth inning, but the Tigers were behind 9-1 at the time, and it would turn out to be their final score of the game. For Barnhart, it was his first homer of the season. This has not been a productive season for the catcher who is likely to see his lowest run, home run and RBI totals outside of a 54 at-bat rookie year and the shortened 2020 season.
