Diaz went 2-for-3 with one double in Tuesday's 2-0 loss against the Giants.

Diaz was the only bright spot for the Houston offense, as he picked two of the team's three hits. The rookie is Hunter Brown's personal catcher, but he is stuck behind Martin Maldonado on the depth chart. Diaz had an .898 OPS across Double-A and Triple-A last season. If he ever receives regular playing time, his bat could provide fantasy value from the catcher position.

The Royals announced Perez is day-to-day after leaving Tuesday's game against the Orioles with a contusion on his left middle finger. X-rays returned negative.

Perez was hit in the finger on Anthony Santander's backswing in the eighth inning. The backstop may end up missing a game or two with the bruise, but it does appear he's avoided a significant injury. Freddy Fermin should handle catching duties while Perez is unavailable.

Perez left Tuesday's game against the Orioles with an apparent injury after he was hit in the glove in the eighth inning, Pete Grathoff of The Kansas City Star reports. He went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three total RBI before exiting.

Perez was hit right in the hand by Anthony Santander's backswing, and he was unable to continue. The backstop was having a big day behind the plate with the pair of homers before leaving the contest. Freddy Fermin has taken over behind the plate.

Angels general manager Perry Minasian told reporters Tuesday that Stassi (personal/hip) remains without a timetable, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Stassi has missed the entirety of the 2023 season while dealing with a family issue as well as a hip injury he picked up right before Opening Day, and the team isn't sure when he might return. if and when he does rejoin the Halos, the veteran catcher has a chance to get reps for the Angels behind the plate with Logan O'Hoppe (shoulder) out for at least the next four months.

Sanchez was released by the Giants on Tuesday after exercising his opt-out clause, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic report.

Sanchez joined the Giants on a minor-league contract back in late March and couldn't force his way onto the major-league roster after struggling to a .164/.319/.182 batting line with zero home runs and 19 strikeouts in 16 games at Triple-A Sacramento. Blake Sabol and Joey Bart remain situated as the catching tandem in San Francisco.

Garver (knee) took swings at Globe Life Field during pregame Tuesday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Garver recently had his recovery timetable extended but is still able to work out as he rehabs a left knee injury. He is not expected back until at least late May.

Stephenson is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Padres.

Stephenson seems certain to get it going at some point, but he went 0-for-4 in Monday's series opener at San Diego and is batting just .265/.348/.324 with zero home runs through 29 games this season. Curt Casali is catching for the Reds on Tuesday and Henry Ramos is taking a turn in the designated hitter role.

Gomes (head) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Nationals.

Gomes took a backswing to the head early in Monday's series opener against Washington and was still being evaluated as of Tuesday afternoon. The good news is that he has not yet been placed on the injured list. Tucker Barnhart will catch and bat ninth Tuesday night against the Nats, and the Cubs have brought up Miguel Amaya to provide more depth behind the plate.

Smith went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Monday's 13-4 rout of the Phillies.

Smith kicked off the scoring with a solo homer in the first inning, and he added an RBI single in the fourth. Since returning from a concussion Friday, the backstop has started four straight games, going 4-for-16 with two extra-base hits, four runs and three RBI over that span. Smith's eye at the plate has been extraordinarily keen this season, as he has struck out only five times while working eight walks over 67 plate appearances.

Amaya was recalled Tuesday from Double-A Tennessee, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Amaya will join the Cubs ahead of Tuesday's game against the Nationals after Yan Gomes took a backswing to the helmet Monday. A former top-ranked prospect, Amaya was sporting an impressive 1.070 OPS with four home runs through 13 games this season at the Double-A level. Gomes has yet to be placed on the injured list, so Amaya could be in store for a short stay in the majors.
