Smith smoked a cutter from Eric Lauer for a solo shot in the third inning. The Dodgers' catcher has four multi-hit games and a .385/.485/.692 slash line in the month of May. Smith has struck out just six times this season and boasts a career-best 1.026 OPS in 2023.

Rutschman went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 4-2 victory over the Rays.

Rustchman snapped a 0-for-19 stretch with a two-run homer in the third inning, a 407-foot shot off Zach Eflin to give Baltimore a 3-1 lead. Despite his recent cold spell, the 25-year-old Rustchman is still slashing a robust .273/.399/.424 with five home runs, 17 runs scored and 20 RBI through 163 plate appearances.

The Angels purchased Okey's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

Okey will join the 26-man active roster as a replacement for fellow catcher Chad Wallach (concussion/neck), who was placed on the 7-day injured list. Okey will be in the lineup for Tuesday's contest against the Astros and handle catching duties with Shohei Ohtani on the mound. Expect Matt Thaiss to serve as the Angels' primary backstop until either Wallach or Max Stassi (personal/hip) returns from the IL.

The Angels placed Wallach on the 7-day injured list Tuesday while he tends to a concussion and a stiff neck, Erica Weston of Bally Sports West reports.

Wallach will miss at least a week as he recovers from the head and neck injuries he suffered in Sunday's 16-8 loss to the Rangers. Catcher Chris Okey will be called up from Triple-A Salt Lake to take Wallach's place on the roster.

Cubs manager David Ross said Tuesday that Gomes (concussion) is close to being activated, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

It sounds like it could happen ahead of Wednesday's series finale against the visiting Cardinals. Ross was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list Wednesday, but the move was made retroactive to last Tuesday, and he has been participating in baseball activities without issue since the weekend.

Raleigh is not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Rangers.

With left-hander Andrew Heaney on the mound, Raleigh will head to the bench Tuesday. Raleigh has only registered one hit in seven at-bats against lefties this year, notching a double and four strikeouts. Tom Murphy will draw the start at catcher and bat seventh versus Texas.

Contreras is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Victor Caratini will start at catcher and bat sixth versus the Dodgers and right-hander Noah Syndergaard. Contreras is slashing .321/.424/.536 this year off lefties but just .260/.333/.356 against righties.

Hickey was promoted from High-A Greenville to Double-A Portland on Tuesday.

This was a much-needed promotion for the 23-year-old catcher, as hitters his age with his pedigree (fifth-round pick in 2021) belong in the upper levels. The lefty-hitting backstop had a .294/.402/.588 slash line with four home runs, a 24.4 percent strikeout rate and a 14.6 percent walk rate in 18 games in a return to High-A after logging similar numbers at that level in 34 games in 2022.

Wong is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Atlanta.

It's a routine day off for Wong. Reese McGuire will do the catching and bat ninth against Charlie Morton.

Haase is not in the starting lineup Tuesday versus the Guardians.

Haase will take a seat after he went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in Monday's victory. The 30-year-old has now secured at least one hit in seven straight contests, going 11-for-27 with two homers, seven RBI, seven runs scored and a stolen base over that stretch. Nick Maton will take over at designated hitter while Andy Ibanez enters the lineup at third base and bats eighth against Cleveland.
