Diaz went 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double, and seven RBI in a 13-10 win over the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Diaz had his best effort of the season with a two-homer game that netted him seven RBI. He hit a two-run shot of Zach Davies in the second, followed by a walk-off three-run shot to win the game in the bottom of the ninth. Diaz also knocked in runs with a single in the fourth and a double in the seventh. The 31-year-old catcher moves to nine long balls and 47 RBI on the season with the performance. He is slashing .236/.294/.399 in 89 games this season.

Gallagher was designated for assignment by the Padres on Friday.

Gallagher swung a hot bat for Triple-A El Paso over the last couple weeks, but that did not prevent the Padres from removing him from the 40-man roster. With 181 big-league games under his belt, Gallagher could be plucked off waivers by a team looking for some help behind the plate.

Nola was placed on the paternity list Friday.

Nola was not included in the lineup for Friday's contest, and the reason for his absence is now known. He can remain on the paternity list for no more than three days, but it's not clear if he will return this weekend or for the upcoming series against the Mariners that begins Tuesday.

Wynns was removed from Friday's game against the Cubs in the top of the sixth inning after he was hit in the head by a pitch, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Wynns went 0-for-1 with a strikeout to begin Friday's matchup, but he took a pitch off the helmet while leading off the sixth inning. Joey Bart replaced him behind the dish, and it's not yet clear whether Wynns will be forced to miss additional time.

Contreras remains on the bench for Friday's game against the Mariners.

Ronald Acuna has been limited to designated hitter duty thus far in the month of September, which has cut into Contreras' playing time. With that spot occupied for now, Contreras is forced to compete for playing time behind the plate with Travis d'Arnaud. D'Arnaud is clearly the preferred option at the moment, as he's started five of the last seven games.

Nola isn't in the lineup Friday against the Dodgers, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Nola went 2-for-4 with a run Wednesday against Arizona but will be held out of the lineup for the second time in the last three games. Jorge Alfaro is starting behind the dish and batting ninth.

Narvaez will sit Friday against the Reds.

Friday's start Nick Lodolo marks the fourth straight left-handed starter the Brewers have faced. Narvaez started just one of those games, and he was only pressed into service because the Giants trotted out southpaws in both halves of Thursday's doubleheader. The Reds are expected to turn to righties in both remaining weekend games in this series, so expect Narvaez to return to the lineup for those contests. Victor Caratini starts behind the plate Friday.

Ruiz (groin), who was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, will be shut down for the next three weeks and is unlikely to return this season, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Ruiz landed on the shelf earlier Friday with a testicular contusion after being struck by a foul ball, and it appears the injury will bring a premature end to his 2022 campaign. The 24-year-old ranks second in the league in games caught (106) this season and has a .251/.313/.360 slash line with seven home runs, 36 RBI and six stolen bases in 433 plate appearances. Ruiz could technically return during the final week of the season, but there's no reason for the last-place Nationals to rush him back for only a couple games. Riley Adams and Tres Barrera should split time at catcher down the stretch for Washington.

The 24-year-old was taken to the hospital after being struck in the groin by a foul ball Thursday, and he'll be unavailable for at least the next week and a half. It's unclear if Ruiz is expected to be sidelined beyond the 10-day minimum. Riley Adams is likely to step up to be Washington's primary catcher in the meantime, and Tres Barrera should also see some work.

The Nationals selected Pineda's contract from Triple-A Rochester on Friday.

Pineda began the season playing in High-A and quickly ascended through the Nationals' farm system. Now, the 22-year-old backstop will play in the majors for the first time in his young career. He will almost certainly be used as a depth piece behind the dish for as long as Keibert Ruiz (groin) remains on the injured list
